25.08.2023 Scunny v Glasgow League
Steve Shovlar replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I watched the Plymouth stream recently and Barker looked fat faced and unhealthy. Not watching what he is eating. Bomber less so but looks like he has put weight in his face and seeing him at Poole last week it was difficult to tell the difference between Complin and Harris coming up to tapes. I am a fan of Bomber and always enjoy his efforts even though the light is now fading slightly on his career. Still has it but we were all commenting on his size in the grandstand. Happy to hear it’s not pies. -

I remember posting on the forum last year, after watching Complin at Poole. I said he looked pretty decent after years of not riding, but if he wanted to progress and get even better, he needed to get some of that bulk off. Well, that didn’t happen and he is overweight for a speedway rider or sportsman. He really should lose it on a Keto or low carb regime and the pounds will fall off. As a side, I have noticed both Ben Barker and Chris Harris are both heavier than at any other time in their racing careers . -
Bit childish Arnieg, thought you were a bit better than that to be honest. This year we have mini leagues, not a straight knockout, so it’s more important to finish top of the pile, unlike previous seasons. If Edinburgh fail to get a meeting on, which makes the difference between who finishes top, it could set a precedence that could be exploited in years to come. Imagine the uproar if Poole had Oxford in the last fixture of the season before the playoffs and the winner of the meeting ended top. But then it was rained off and Poole couldn’t / wouldn’t find a spare date to run it and announced we had finished top and get the pick. Fans would be up in arms and rightly so. Edinburgh are obligated to find a date before the cutoff and I am sure they will.

25.08.2023 Scunny v Glasgow League

Abblit was excellent, as was Kemp. The meeting itself was fantastic racing. Possibly the best race track in the U.K. and was exploited in every heat. A really small crowd though which was a shame. Pirates now with best opportunity to finish top. -
With Scunthorpe slaughtering Glasgow tonight, they are more or less out of topping the table. A shootout between Poole and Oxford for top spot. Oxford need to win at Glasgow to top the table, or Pirates lose at Edinburgh. We will easily beat Brum next Wednesday. So it’s really down to Oxford at Glasgow.

Vissing just poleaxed Abblit who had been brilliant tonight. Abblit on track with ambulance out. Edit. Ablitt up and ok. -

Brilliant racing. -
We don’t need to. The Fords got their team building right from the start of the season and didn’t have to go around throwing a massive wad of cash at the death of the season to compete, like Belle Vue did last year with Lambert.

I have an issue with the rule, as it’s quite frankly ridiculous. I don’t have an issue with Glasgow trying to exploit the rule. How can a 5 point PL rider be a 5 point Championship rider? It’s a nonsense and will end this years league championship.
-
It’s nothing like the Cook averages. Their averages are correct. Both fire hot and cold, though their averages are rising as they improve. Tarasenko is a Polish Extraleague top rider. No comparison between Tarasenko and the Cooks. At all. Or Worrall. Or Lawson.
-
I tried to word my post fairly as to not come over as sour grapes. My post was not meant bitter at all. If it is within the rules, so be it. But if this is actually allowed, then the rules are very wrong and such a signing makes a mockery of the whole league competition.
-
Extraleague riders should not be riding uk Championship. What’s now to stop Poole from getting Dominic Kubera in to replace Kyle Newman should they tempt him with a big cheque? It would be ridiculous.
-
Ridiculous that Tarasenko has the same 5 average in both Premier and Championship. There’s really no doubt whatsoever that Glasgow with this signing will win the Championship this season. They won’t need decent reserves as the top 5 will be overpowering. It’s a signing similar to Lambert coming into BV last season to win the playoffs for them. But if it is within the rules, then so be it.

We get to the rerun of the abandoned meeting from three weeks ago when that unlucky photographer got injured by a flying bike. Hopefully he is now well on the way to recovery. Poole at the time we’re well on the way to the points but things are never the same on a rerun and Pirates have to be right on it to make sure the important three points come south. The pirates are full strength with Joe Thompson now in the team replacing Adam Roynon, who was also injured by a flying bike in the same meeting! Perhaps Edinburgh fans can give us an update on the Monarchs team lineup. Is Craig Cook back or a guest? Tapes up at 7pm with Birmingham following this meeting.

Poole v Glasgow 23/8/23 Championship
Steve Shovlar replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
For Oxford to finish top, Glasgow would have to let them. Glasgow are solid at home and should beat Oxford without too many issues. In a playoff scenario, who would Glasgow rather meet? Oxford or Poole? Sure they might have to meet Poole in a final, but anything could happen in the playoffs. Best avoid Pirates and ride against Oxford and Redcar/Scunthorpe than Poole. I believe Glasgow will see off Oxford and perhaps finish as runners up.
