  1. Does he still play as Goalminder for them? Thought he was a bit of a winkle years ago but he has changed a lot, and had good chat with him when he ran the New Inn. Very passionate Swindonian, wears his heart on his sleeve, and fantastic boss for his local club, where he has a superb record. Best manager of all-time for the Wiltshire club.
  2. Great to see the Islanders back in action. Went there about 5 years ago when Newport were visiting, we were on holiday...Swindon lad Chessell rode for the IOW. Friendly little club, good stadium, crowd was under 200. Track a bit too big..hardly any passing. What sort of crowds do they need, and do they still do the special ferry offer for mainland fans?
  3. Can only see Belle Vue threatening the south-western duo of Poole and Swindon. Leicester bottom.
  4. Budgie or Kangaroo logo...green and gold colours...vegamite, meat pies, rooburgers, iced coffee and Coopers beer to be on sale at the local catering outlets. Shrimp barbies on the centre-green. Enter the track to "I Come From A Land Down Under". Just hope for some good Aussie weather as well, and tinnies and picnics on those grass banks.
  5. Rosco.......it sends out the signal that Aussies have a tough positive arrogant winning mentality, and that can only be good for Swindon speedway club. Didn't make any difference when Middlo was managing non-English Poole teams. No one but Rosco to manage GB, who else would want the job anyway?
  6. I expect most of Team Australia will be staying at The Hobbs abode in Stone Lane Lydiard Millicent, with the excellent workshop facilities there. North Dakota must have made-up with Rosco after slagging him off in Adelaide when he was chatting to my bruv, Doyley wasn't too complimentary either. Good line-up, should be a good team spirit, and hopefully the Budgies can break the Knob stranglehold on the Elite title, winning it at the shiny new stadium in front of thousands of fans.
  7. Lung's fellow Swede David Rude offended a lot of fans as well due to his lack of effort.
  8. Download the pak TV app...then you can watch Sky/BT Sport/Eurosport or whatever for FREE!
  9. That's because Lung was complaining of constantly being out of breath when he rode for them.
  10. 2500 "horse-racing style" seats, at least that will be about 2400 more than the current amount of chairs on offer. Dunno what the standing capacity will be.
  11. Would be madness to sign 0303 Mads...Zengi was top rider, really wants to return, totally committed to the Budgies. Hopefully its goodbye Bitch.
  12. Not a match but the best race I ever saw was Barry Briggs of Swindon against Martin Ashby, ex-Robin but then Exeter 1969. They were neck-and-neck for 4 laps, Crash won by a tyre width..incredible race. Such a talent the Marlborough-flyer...same as Terry Betts could have been world-class if they had more belief
  13. "Hello Goodbye" has now been adopted as the new club song as the team enter the track, replacing the famous Jacko's "Rockin Robin". With perhaps Tom Jones "Green Green Grass Of Home".
  14. Glad I was there to see the old crowd of riders from the late 60s side for probably the final time, and the super fireworks, and the splendid programme...now they have to get them all to come back again for one last hoorah, to be called The Fair Tell meeting in honour of El Tel Russell, and Batch must write a new speech...oh dear what a bloody willy up! At least the speedway looks safe for the immediate future? The Robins to be renamed The Budgies because of all the Aussies in the side!
  15. Good article by Mr.Hudson...strange bloke, I spoke to him once when I worked for the Adver, once was enough! An ever-decreasing hardcore band. Doyley is a great signing but no Darcy Ward. The new stadium would have brought many new and ex-fans in at least initially. The club need to do more PR, especially when fans are prepared to give up their free-time for nought to do leaflet distribution or whatever to bring in new fans. Get involved more in the local community like the football and ice-hockey clubs do. The bogs are to be renamed the "Lord Loocan Suite" I hear.
  16. One of the greatest English riders of all-time, certainly one of the best I've seen at Blunsdon.
  17. Yes they're doing a track share at The New Abbey I heard, now to be called the Troy Batchelor Arena. Saw the girders for the new stadium stored at the Groundwell Park n' Ride when I was visiting the premises of a nearby club programme advertiser, she said three lorries turned up, will be gathering cobwebs then. The club/fans would have been looking forward to starting the new season at their new home with increased crowds, if they start at the old Abbey a lot of peeps wont bother going after paying for the Farewell and will feel they've been conned.
  18. Gr8... 'er indoors and myself are going over for next year's GP, meeting my bruv there who lives in Adelaide, he really enjoyed this year's event, but has only ever seen Greg Hancock win an Aussie GP, as he won in Sydney as well in 2002. What was the attendance in Melbourne?
  19. Great signing for The Roobins...no better number 1 in EL....and to think he was a second-string/reserve when they won the league in 2012.
  20. Good news.....I pay over 40 quid a month, (limited calls/broadband)for BT Vision, and BT Sport is free if you sign into contract. Good for Champions League football, Rugby Union, non-league/European/Aussie soccer.
  21. I've heard rumours he's signing for Wolves, replacing Fast Freddie as number 1, and skipper as well.
  22. Also remember him easily beating Leigh Adams by a long-way at The Abbey when riding for Poole. He's a GP rider should be in top 10 averages, seems to be going the same way as riders such as Bjerre and Lindgren. He was a different rider when Darky was riding for Swindon, perhaps lost his confidence. A change of club may benefit him.
  23. Tooting & Mitch, local rivals, black and white striped dirty side from sarf-west London. We shared Champion Hill with Corinthian Casuals, too posh to hate, all Oxbridge lads, apart from my Dad, a working-class geezer from Camberwell, who played left-back for them for a few seasons. We lived in Nunhead, between Amlet and The Wall, mainly went to Charlton Athletic. Didn't realise The Lions reserves played at the home of the pink n' blues. Dulwich get really good crowds now in the Ryman Premier, seems the in-thing to support them now , visited a few years ago, Sainsburys built them a new stadium, that holds about 20000 less than the old one.
