  1. The longer the 'new stadium' fiasco goes on the less chance I think it will ever happen. The stadium is now surrounded by housing developments - I give it another 5 years or so and Speedway will cease at the Abbey Stadium on noise and environmental grounds.
  2. I don't think Rayleigh's scaremongering with this - sadly it could well be the situation. Rye House have struggled with the introduction of FRN and with such fine margins in speedway between staying in business or going under I fear that there may be a severe financial issue at the club. If this is the case it will surely mean the end of the FRN experiment?
  3. I see there are very few comments about the actual meeting last night so I take it was very average. I opted to watch the World Cup last night, sounds like I didn't miss much. What was the attendance like?
  4. The Robins were off their game last night and it really looked likely at one stage that Rye were going to win it, however they turned it round in the end. If the team can be as below par as they were last night and still win I think it bodes well. In any team sport even the best teams have occasional lapses in form but the top teams can still win even when they're not at their best. I think there may have been a bit of complacency last night but judging by Rosco's demeanor at the post meeting press conference this will get addressed sooner rather than later. One final thought and that is about David Bellego. He seems to becoming the team's whipping boy for sub par performances. Some people seem to forget that David was a a key component in last season's success, a point raised by Rosco himself during the season review. Sure he's not riding as well as he did last year but I'm sure he can pull his form round. We don't want to become like the Pikey's on the south coast and start ditching riders as soon as their form dips.
  5. A fortuitous point handed to the Robins last night courtesy of Mr Andersen who opted to ride his team mate into the fence in Ht 15 whilst on a 5-1. A tough night for Swindon with one or two riders below par notably David Bellego who looked well down on power and wasn't really competitive and also Nick Morris who though beat Andersen in his last ride would be dissapointed with his final tally of 7 on a track where he often hits double figures. On the plus side Batch once again led from the front with a fine 15 pts from 6 rides. Adam Ellis yet again did well in the engine room with 7 including 2 wins. Finally Zac, as ever, never gave up and finished with a creditable 5pts. As others have said the track was poor, very dusty and where I was stood on the back straight appeared to be lacking shale with the base exposed by the fence. Credit to Leicester, they haven't had much luck with injuries and they deserved their victory. Another point for the Budgies on the road, well done lads keep it up!
  6. On my way up to this one. If it's half as good as the 'A' fixture earlier in the season I'll be more than happy - as Orlov says could go either way, think Leicester may nick it this time with the Budgies picking up a point.
  7. So Cook doesn't fancy it now, this is becoming a waste of time. Having the meeting pushed around the fixture list doesn't help. There was a time it was towards the end of the season and everybody looked forward to it. Sadly the prestige seems to have gone and the prize money with it I should imagine. Perhaps it's time to consign this fixture to history.
  8. Is there anybody going to this meeting? Can't believe we've got to this time before anybody's mentioned it.
  9. Terrific effort by the Robins last night and I'm glad I went. I can't remember seeing Troy Bachelor ride that well for a long time. After the first 6 heats it wasn't looking great as we were 10 points down and hadn't provided a heat winner. Nick had taken a fall in the first heat and according to Rosco's after-meeting comments had felt he'd damaged his number 1 bike and his reserve machine lacked pace. However there seemed to be a concerted team effort and they all dug deep to turn it around. Everybody contributed, even Mitchell Davey didn't look too far off the pace although he failed to score. A special mention for Zach who continues to improve and he had a great scrap with Kurtz in Heat 12 picking up a valuable 3rd place to give us a 4-2 heat victory. I know its early days yet but the Robins are shaping up well. I think there's scope in this team for a number of riders to improve their averages this year; Zac Toby and Adam and if Batch can maintain something close to the form he showed last night I think we can compensate for the loss of Doyley. For Leicester, they look a much better side and I know Bjerre's return of 6 paid 8 was a little disappointing (though according to another poster he was on borrowed equipment last night) I think he's a very good choice of cover for Vaculik for that track as he's a gating specialist which is big advantage there. Well done Budgies, onwards and upwards, a very entertaining meeting.
  10. Well done the Robins - showed great resolve to pick themselves up after Monday's under performance at the Abbey. Despite the excellent start it seemed to be drifting away from Swindon with the Monmore men coping admirably without their top two, in particular I thought Masters and Howarth were excellent value and was impressed with the progress that Nathan Greaves has made. To be honest given the way he was riding and the form of Bellego on the night I couldn't see him finishing 4th in heat 14. i thought Nick Morris's ride in Heat 13 to catch and pass Sam Masters was worthy of bringing the trophy back to Blunsdon. Swindon are good value as champions, finishing top of the league and with the 17 match winning run deserved the top award. Commiserations to Wolves who came within a whisker of winning it; on another night it could easily have gone their way. Given they were without their Swedish duo they and their fans should feel proud of their performance over both legs of the final Just one final point; Bomber is taking a lot of flack for last night but I'm sure he was doing everything he could to to get among the points. I don't think there's a more honest rider in British speedway and giving 100% for whoever he is riding for is in his DNA. Once again well done the Budgies - 2017 Premier League Champions!!
  11. I think the first few heats will have a big influence on the result. If the gap has got bigger after heat 4 I think Wolves will be home and dry. Crucial for Swindon to get off to a good start.
  12. Congratulations to Wolves who take a deserved lead back to Monmore Green. They were the better team on the night and seemed to want it more. Don't know what happened to Swindon; complacency and maybe the track caught them out a bit but either way Wolves were worthy winners on the night.
  13. The loss of their two top riders is a massive blow for Wolves and even though I'm a Swindon fan I would rather we were facing a full strength team from Monmore Green. It takes the edge off the final I feel and is rotten luck for Woves and obviously the two riders concerned and I wish them both a speedy recovery. However its sport and injuries are commonplace in speedway and even though Swindon have been lucky at the expense of Wolves I think only the chrurlish and small minded would begrudge the Robins the title if it comes to Wiltshire. The team have proved that by finishing top of the table they are the most consistant team this season and their 17 match winning streak undelines this fact. Having said that, even without Fast Freddie and Thorssel, Monmore Green is probably the track with the biggest home advantage in the PremierLeague and it wouldn't suprise me if Wolves were to win at home and let's face it the Robins at one stage looked as though they were going to gift the home leg of the semi final to Poole so all is not lost totally for Wolves. However if Swindon cock it up now they will only have themselves to blame and undoubtdly are red hot favourites over the two legs.
  14. This was my first GP other than Cardiff and have to say it all felt a bit flat. I don't know maybe it's a reflection of the sport in Sweden which by all accounts is in trouble with falling attendances & clubs in financial trouble. The meeting itself was ok although the track wasn't as good as Cardiff this year. The atmosphere was pretty subdued not even the Poles could raise much of a shout though they're not there in anything like the numbers they are in Wales. Well done to Doyley -just needs to stay out of trouble in the last 2 GPs and he's home and dry. Emil was good value for money and Kildemamd gave it a go. Awful day at the office for Tai. Janowski and Dudek look to have wilted under the pressure. Congratulations to Matej Z, despite his low qualifying score he looked to have good pace in most races.
  15. I don't understand the hysteria from the Poole fans; as a Swindon fan I'd prefer BWD in the team as I think he'd do a better job than Newman. But why the fuss about Newman coming in? Do Poole fans automatically assume he'll score far more than BWD? His average doesn't suggest it and besides Poole sacked him for not being good enough so what's the problem?
  16. Well whichever way you look at it there should be quite an atmosphere at Wimborne Rd tonight. Personally I think Poole will win this by 8-10 points. With Kurtz back in the side it's steadied the ship and probably been a welcome relief for Andersen who may have been hampered by having to be the main point scorer in his absence. Poole have nothing to lose tonight and they an just go out and ride.
  17. It seems to me that things started to go wrong for KL the moment Chapman took over the Chairmanship of the BSPA.He comes over as somebody with too much on his plate. In my opinion he should either stand down from his position at the BSPA or take a back seat a the AFA and leave the running of the Stars to other people. Its a pity he can't sort out his issues with his son as this would surely help turn around the fortunes of the club. At the moment he seems to be running the club into the ground, going from one crisis to another and alienating a lot of the fanbase in the process. Its a shame because with the facilities and catchment area Kings Lynn Speedway should be a successful enterprise.
  18. If the Fab Four Doyley, Morra, the flying Frenchman and Toby are all on it tonight the Budgies have enough to win this but if one of those is off his game the Rockets will triumph - for the Rockets it's do or die time.
  19. With Adam Ellis being unavailable tonight and the Robins using R/R as cover the top 4 are going to have to be on their game as with no disrespect to the reserves they're unlikely to match Adam's potential score. Add to this Rye House really have to win tonight to keep their failing play off hopes alive. This could be the night the run comes to an end which in some ways may be no bad thing. Fantastic achievement though it is the consecutive wins run may start to become a monkey on the back of the Budgies as they have to lose at some stage and perhaps better to do it now rather than the play offs.
  20. Well done the Budgies, 16 up and going strong although the second meeting against the Rebels was a bit of a farce with them only tracking 4 riders after the first few heats but hey its speedway and this is what happens ( and why it gets so little coverage from the national press and our chums at the BBC). Special mention for Mitchell Davey who stood in for Zach; great effort by him. Just one other point; Nick was on for a maximum against Somerset until his 'team mate' Doyley blocked him off on the second turn on either the 2nd or 3rd lap of heat 13. Nick had more pace and Doyle should have let him through, instead he closes the door forcing Morra to shut off momentarily which was enough to let Grazcjonek through. Doyley could have let Nick take the lead and in all likelihood he would still have picked up the bonus point. Disappointing to say the least from the Captain. I've got a lot of admiration for Doyley and really hope he lifts the World title this year but his team riding seems to be non existent. Still, I guess its his single mindedness that has got him to the top of the pile in the GPs, take that away from him and he'd only be half the rider he is.
  21. Thanks to all those posting weather updates on here, for away fans like myself proposing to travel a long way it's a great help. Reluctantly I'm not going to go to this now as the forecast just looks too bad to risk the journey. It's a pity because if it goes ahead I think it will be a really good meeting - the atmosphere round Saddlebow Road should be jumping!
  22. Thanks for this weather update. Was going to come up myself for this one but weather is looking far too iffy for a trip from beyond Swindon. I went to the the rained off fiasco between these two teams last year where we ended up watching Buster relaying the track for 2 hours before the meeting was finally abaondoned.
  23. Spot on GRW. Communication seems to be a large part of the problem at KL at the moment and Buster needs to try and get the club pulling together as one. For a club that has so much going for it the current set up is currently making a right mess of things. A statement on the club website and through other social media outlets wouldn't go amiss.
  24. I fully agree with the point about this situation being a family issue and it can only be resolved by the Chapmans. It is, litterally, their own business. I'm a speedway fan first and foremost and any promotion/track in difficulty is a cause of great concern, especially one as estblished as KL which has a hell of a lot going for it. I do think Buster has too much on his plate; trying to transform British Speedway (which if it was a patient in hospital would be in intensive care) and doing all the stuff he does at Saddlebow Road; promote, track curator and whatever else he does. Things have been compounded with Dale Allet's health situation and Rob Lyon's apparent AWOL. As somebody else mentioned I don't think there are people queuing up to be speedway promotors, only the Chapman family can sort this out. I'll keep my fingers crossed because as I said earlier Kings Lynn speedway has a lot of potenial to be a successful enterprise.
  25. Lots of interesting comments and observations on this thread. Overall I enjoyed yesterday. The pre-meeting entertainment seemed a bit lacking compared with other years and maybe this was the cause of a slightly flatter feel in build up compared to the past. Thought the first 3 heats were pretty ordinary but then it really picked up and there were some really fine races especially those involving Kildemand Sayfutdinov and Zagar. What was good was that you couldn't pick a winner; Zmarzlik looked to be the fastest on the night but finished off the podium and it was great to see the much unfancied Zagar in the mix. Thought Tai started well but compared to previous years seem to lack an edge. I suspect this may have something to do with his PJR tuned engines; all the Monster Energy team seemed to have struggled on them this year and interestingly Hancock is now using somebody else. Poor old Cookie is lost at this level, he just hasn't got it. As others have said he needs to be regularly mixing it with the other top riders in Poland and Sweden and to be honest at nearly 31 which Polish or Swedish team is going to pick him over an up and coming younger rider? Personally I think he's gone as far as he'll go and Worrall and Lambert stand more of a chance of making it to the next level imo. I really hope that Doyle is crowned World Champion this year. He is so focused and refuses to let anything stand in his way. After his first two races he looked out of it but not for the first time this year he dusted himself down and by force of will got himself into the final. I believe he's made it to every final so far this year which means his performing at a consistent high level, surely the hall mark of a champion? One final point I'd agree with the figure of about 32,000 for the attendance, it did seem a bit down on other years. I wouldn't put it down to the price of admission though; £25 to see the world's best riders performing in a fine venue is excellent value for money in my opinion. Oh, I almost forgot - come back Niki Pedersen you were missed!
