From what I have seen of the engine on the internet, it is not using a GM case, it looks simular, but there are few slight differences to the design.

John Cook Talks A Lot Of Sense
weatherwatcher replied to oldtimer's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
It would be nice to see the team that actually finished top of the leagues get some sort of recognition for actally winning the league, but no, they have to go and take the top four finishers and after that who ever wins is declared the league chamoion. So the ppor sod who has done all the hard work all year can then end up falling at the last hurdle and finishing fourth. If they want to carry on with this then at least call the team that wins the league winner and the four teams that ride against each other, at least lets have it as a seperate tounament with a cup, but not to see who wins the league. Somehow it despoils all the hard work done throughout the year, by the true wining team. How would the punter of the Grand National feel if they had the top 4 horses over the line having to race off against each other as many times as the speedway teams do to be called the Grand National winner. They would be up in arms. But the majority of speedway supporters, seem to love this stupid system that, was drempt up by the BPSA and SKY. -
The Lions have had a terrible season, with riders signed on that didn't want to bother being there then uped and left them in the lurch. Plus a spate of accidents, so the fact that we have loads of guest riders, is not down to the clubs, but the number of riders who have fallen to injury again this year. There are not many clubs in the EL that are not having to use guests, through injury. Is it time to have at least another couple of riders per team to use when the time comes. They could always be used to cover for other missing riders on other teams. From the amount of bad injuries this year they would have all been busy. Good win for the Lions, it boils down to something though when a reserve rider goes out and scores the highest points in a team and a guest at that. Thought Garrity would do well. Pity that Clegg didn't ride as well as he did at the end of last year. So how many riders are going to try out the new Gerhard engine this year, seems it was going well for PK, should think that if one or two more stsrt using it, then there will be one or two alarm bells ringing at the other eninge manifacturers. Good to see that Gerhard seems to have a product that has been well put together and all the testing has proved its worth. Just have to wait and see if it is as reliable as they have stated.

Garritty will make Lambert appear like a snail. Not sure about Max Clegg as he really came to grips with BP the last few meeting he had for the Lions last year, but up against Worrel I am haveing second thoughts on that one. If the reserves Lambert especially had been on the pace better on Manday it would have made the difference of a Draw or Win for the Lions Not sure how many chances Lambert will get before they replace him for another reserve. He just does not do well around BP. It will be nice to see a full team back together. Just hope that whoever it is that they sign this time can make a huge difference to the teams bad fortunes. With Walasek out for at least another 8 weeks, which is going to take up a huge part of this season, can they keep going along with guest riders for all that time or do they sign someone on tempary to fill for him until he returns. The Lions needs Lady Luck to shine upon them for once, what they have suffered this season yet again, after the problems they had last season. is worse that if you had written a book, on the troubles and trauma's of the unluckiest speedway team around. Things can only get better I hope.

As Humphrey has just stated above, even in th early 90's when most of the top stars where still over here and Sky and just started puuting on Sky Sports, they crowd levels where still going down. When Sky come into town now, they must be hard put to on what angle to point the cameras so that they don't let people see the 400 or 500 people there at some of the tracks. It really needs a radical shake up, not sure what the answer is, but to be honest people have moved on over the years and life has so many more things on offer. How many people in the early 90's went paint balling, hang glidding etc, etc. The list could go on. In the 40's and 50's there was not a great deal other than football, to keep the folks amused, all they had was a radio to sit down and listen to. So with speedway clubs galore, most of them on their door step that was a good night out for them. Sadly not now. I very much doubt, if half the population of this country even know sppedway is even happening.

The mind is one of the most complex things on the planet, far more complex than any computer, even they go wrong. There is no telling what has been going on his his mind, he may just have come to a point where his mind took over his actions. I can't speak for him as I am not that person, but over the years he has suffered these sort of problems before. Maybe just as well that he didn't ride on Monday as it is not a sport that you can go into with your mind not on the job. Hope that in th end he can get his life sorted out once and for all. But I very much doubt it. My daughter goes through the same sort of problems and I know the impact that it has played on her life and ours. What he did to the Lions on Monday was wrong, but I think it was probably the right move in the long term.

Just read the item above, what a set of low lifes there are around now. People used to respect what people had and would never even think twice about taking anything of a sentimental value to a family. What are their chances of selling the bikes its not every day a wetlake speedway bike or a load of racing jackets come up for sale, or was this done for someone to put in their private collection never to see the light of day again. I hope they get caught and the women in question gets everything back. But I very much doubt it.

I for one can't see why people have to have all these top riders over here that cripple the clubs, with outladish payment requests. I for one would be far happier to see the general run of the mill riders with far closer racing and at a price that everyone can afford to go and watch. Lets face it, it is not the sort of sport these days that draws in the crowds that the british super bikes draw in. It is just a few dedicated fans that come rain or shine to watch their team. Surely the promoters realise that without the fans, then they have no income. Some of the EL clubs have a fan base that ar even less that some of the lower league football clubs. There is very little advertising out there about the sport. No posters on the stadiums like there was in the 60,s and 70,s letting folks know when the next meeting was. I was looking at an article about Tamworth speedway club in the mid 1940,s. When George Formby was there and they had over 5000 fans there and the same at nearly every meeting, wouldn't the promoter just love a crowd like that every week now. Something needs doing and doing very fast before there is nothing left of the EL. I keep saying this but I am sure the promoters are wearing blinkers as well as rose tinted glasses.

Should Tai Woffinden Ride For Team Gb ?
weatherwatcher replied to robert72's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
If that is not blowing your own trumpet SCB, then I don't know what is. By the way have you had any offers for your software, or are the powers that be just to blind to be able to see that they could make you a good offer for your product or are just to damn mean. Think it may be the last one -
Lets face facts how many PL clubs want to join the EL, not that many I would say. They are quite happy staying where they are, many of the clubs may not be in a position finacially to go up to the EL, They manage to get by in the PL without the worlds top stars who ask for wage demands that would break the clubs. I for one don't get to see as much speedway, when the Lions where in the PL, now it just cost to much, with the fuel cost of getting there and back, admision for me and the grandson a programme a couple of raffle tickets 6 cups of coffee and the grandson wanted this years badge, I was out of pocket to the tune of just over £60, so I only get to about 3 meetings a year now. I would rather live near to a PL or NL track and get better value for my money if if it is with all the top riders. Last night was money well spent though.

Auty has made it work for him at BP. Shame about Lambert though. The way things are now going in the EL the 2 strongest reserves can now so easily win you the meeting. Othere than Maijics magic meeting, it was the 2 Poole reserves who helped to seal the win for them. -

To true Chris looked very poor last night, well off the pace. And I was expecting to see Poole go home with at leat plus 50 or even 60 points, but the Lions fought really hard. Majic was vey lucky not to out in the final heat. As for the problem with the sun I felt really sorry for any Poole fans having to go back to Dorset. I live 30 miles away and when I finally manages to get out of the stadium and get free of the trafic it was 1.15pm before I got home so there must have been one or two very tired drivers when they made it home. -

Nice to actually see a meeting on a track that didn't break up after about 4 races. Just shows what they can do when they use a race track insted of them hiring a plowed field. Tempory tracks are not the way to go. Ok they get the crowds in the venues, but the racing is what people want to see. Not the shambles theygave us on the first 2 GP's -
Can't beleive what he did yesterday. This should be his fanal chance at riding in the sport.

From what I saw of Bomber race, the engine certainly had the speed, if he had not nearly hit the rider in front, I think you would have seen a better idea of what it could do. Hope to see more of it, to get a better idea of what it has to offer. It looks like it could well be used in the PL or NL if the price is right and may even be used in the higher leagues. Just needs to prove that it can compete with GM. Only time will tell. But things seem to be going well for it.

Should Tai Woffinden Ride For Team Gb ?
weatherwatcher replied to robert72's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Not all people have the same make up, the likes of Pederson and a few others thrive on trotting from place to place nearly every night of the week. Keeping fit must be so hard for them, getting a few hours sleep on a plane or in a van is not the same as a good nights rest in a comfy bed. It is obvious that Tai just has not got the ability, body wise to manage to get his mind in full focus after going as last year to the GP's the EL, Poland, sweden etc. Plus he was doing so much last year raising money for Ormand Strret, with his bike rides. I think he burt himself out physically and mentally. From what was said earlier this year he was on the verge of a break down. So what do you chose to do make big money in Poland and Sweden plus the GP's and sacrifice having to fly back again to compete in the EL for less money, or take the easy route and just race at tracks and the GP's. He seems in a much better frame of mind this year. I hope he goes on to win the world tittle again this year, he is looking good this year. Only time will tell if he can stay on top it is a long way to go yet. He may just make it back here next year if he gets the win he wants. If he does win and they put him on every newspaper and tv show, I don't think it will make one bit of difference to people coming to see speedway over here. The whole product needs a big shake up. All the best to the team in the world cup, don't for one minute think they will get anywhere near the final. But at least it will give a few young lads who wil become the future of our British team a bite of the cherry. Hope they do well. -

It was only what was said in passing not from any of the management, so maybe it was not true, but the person that told me knows quite a lot of what goes on at the Lions. -

They said at the meeting what had happened, as nothing yet being posted on the Lions site, which is not unuaual. But he rang up at 3.30pm to see that was him done one ride at Swindon, must have just been to much for him. Hard really for anything to be put out about him unti I supose they have had words with him to see what he is actually playing at, until then I don't think we will hear anything. Full marks to the management though to even get a team together, a really quickly botched up side with only 3 of the clubs riders in attendance at the meeting. Lambert would have been better staying at home as well as both the reserves only scored 6 points between them and Lambert had only 1 of those, he just hasn't got the answer to riding BP when he rode here last time in the PL he was shown the door then because he just wasn't producing the goods. The 2 reserves could have won the meeting for the Lions but their total score only met Newmans score alone. With Paul Starke adding another 7 points. Just shows what 2 strong reserves can do for a team It is the same again this time round, can't for the life of me see why they picked him. As for who they pick now if Bridger has gone I have no ideas just hope they use the points in hand wisley. That is if they have the money to for for any top rider. I was told last night thatPederson was on £4000 a meeting plus points money. Boy are these riders greedy and then have the nerve to come over here and not even bothering to give their all. For the sake of British speedway, things must change. If it is true what he was getting per meeting, then what are the like of Iverson etc getting paid. Is it no wonder the clubs are in so many difficulties. Just been posted on the Lions website and the SCB, that Bridger has retired from speedway again. So what do they come up with now. -

I don't sound like he is coming back at all. Someone said that he has posted somewhere that he dosen't feel that it is the right time to return to speedway. He should make his mind up what he is doing. -

I should think that Bridger has now had his days in speedway over, what club is now going to have him after pulling a stunt like that. To ring at 3.30 to let them know he dosen't think he wants to ride just yet. Heat 15 was a long drawn out affair, was very suprised that Majic didn't get exluded though as the incident was way past turn turn 2 just into the straight, when he pushed Jason into the fence, it even brought a round of Boo's from the crowd. Tony Steel the ref was looking like a tomato in the box, I have never seen anyone go so red in all my life. Sorry to say that the Poole side are not the team they have been, Majic as I said was outstanding but to only win by the margine they did against a botched up Lions team, needs a lot to have to up their game. -

A good meeting tonight. My first this year after having a terrible year with my own problems with my feet all this year. With the team the Lions put together at the last minute, they did really well, very close meeting, that could have gone either way, exect they had Majic riding for them a great rider and a pleasure to watch a true track craftsman at work. Things just can't get any worse for the Lions though or can they. So we are now cack to the saga of who is going to come into the team. I was very sprised on how many people turned up at the track, after the half way point of the meeting, until then both bends looked very down on the useual number, next time I looked and they had nearly doubled. Do they get in free or at reduced rate then. Good luck to the Lions search for new team members. Must say I was very sad to Lambert ride at reserve, he just can't ride BP to save his life, just 1 point again at home, time for him to go as his last spell at the Lions he couldn't ride it then. a few extra points from him could have made a big difference. -

Will have to wait until I get there to see who the riders are. What a sad state of affairs when you have so many guest and rider replacements in a season. About time that the whole set up in both the EL and PL was altered. Before even more fans drift away from the sport. I was looking earlier at Tamworth speedway back in the 1940,s. with George Formby there. with a crowd of over 5000, will those crowds ever return. Have we anything positive on who the teams are for tonight as we are only a few hours before the start now. Or is it going to be a big suprise. -

With all the money that has been spent on the Glasgow stadium and it is a tribute to the guys who came up with at last bring a speedway club into the 21st centary. When will we see them making a bid to join the EL. It is a stadium that would even put a few top level clubs to shame. All the best to the management there they deserve credit where credit is due, plus the fans coming through the turnstyles, for all the hard work and money they have done and spent. Have a great season. You deserve it. -

I think news wise the Lions site is probably the worst one out of all the EL websites, for letting the fans know what is happening.
