  1. If Craig Cook can find a little consistency they will be okay. You can carry one reserve if the top five are pulling their weight.
  2. Do riders that persistently break the tapes suffer from premature ejaculation? …..Just a thought!
  3. Stick a dog on a bike? Don’t be silly…. Hang on though, what about WHOOFFinden? Could work?
  4. Fair point, or even have Lawson at 4 for a bit more clout at the business end of the meeting in heat 14?
  5. ….And now for something completely different. This fixture will now take place (at the fifth attempt) on 5th August. The Met Office has guaranteed that there will be some weather on this date, so probably best to postpone it now to avoid disrupting riders and spectators travelling plans. Seriously though, Lions still have to go to Lynn twice this season so why not just make it a double header….if and when it takes place?
  6. Mr Jones has guested for teams before, so ‘it’s not unusual’.
  7. Yeah, obviously only considering riders better than this Bartosz bloke (What has he ever done in this sport?). Your statement has echoes of the Birmingham management statement earlier in the season regarding affordability of riders. I’m sure you’re a decent chap and won’t be offended by being told that this particular post of yours is ridiculous (was going to say Bollox but thought better of it).
  8. Think you’ve nailed it. The explanation from Schroek would appear to be absolute b0ll0x. The points available for replacements are not an issue. Anyone is available at a price. That is the issue.
  9. Correct Fozzie. I was just keeping up with the rhyming slang.
  10. Tommy Tanker owns the lease? Sure that’s not his real name. His first name is Kevin, his main job is a Merchant Banker apparently.
  11. Agreed. When riders are prepared to attack the track we get decent races at BP. Hats off to Rew tonight because he was prepared to have a right old go. He is a long way off the finished article but clearly isn’t taken in by all the negative crap regarding the Lions track. The top riders and those who are destined to go to the top will see BP as a challenge and be mindful that the very best are able to handle the so called technical tracks. Throttle jockeys who love the big tracks (some apparently have dozens of racing lines) will have to adapt if they are to progress in the sport.
  12. Masters and Becker need to be on it tonight in Dougie’s absence. I think Rew could be the key rider tonight. He is more than capable of double figures at BP and if he’s up for it the Witches will not miss Dan T.
  13. Ah, the Hawks! I remember watching the riders you mentioned (mid 70s?). Barry Thomas and Dave Morton also come to mind. My one recollection of the Hawks visiting Leicester is when former Lion Keith White was riding at reserve (he was at No.7 for a reason of course) and was unbeaten from five rides! Never did that for us! Can’t remember whether that swung the meeting for Hackney or not.Nostalgia……it’s not what it used to be.
  14. If Dougy doesn’t ride, Masters and Becker will need to step up to take an extra ride each. Whilst Fricke and Lawson will be fine for R/R, there is no way the reserves will take one of the rides, especially as three of your No.5’s heats are paired with a reserve anyway.
  15. Blimey Bob, you do go back a long way! Don’t tell me, the home team wore light grey and dark grey helmet colours and the away team wore white and black/white quarters!
  16. Yeah, big sporting day! Wonder what the odds are for both teams going all the way?
  17. Does anyone know if SON is on TV (must be surely)? I’ve looked on the Eurosport/Doscovery+ schedule but nothing mentioned.
  18. On the subject of Aussies, there seems to be no shortage of them wanting to come to the UK to race and develop their skills. I would like to think that a lot of this is down to the likes of Jason Doyle (although there may be others) who has always stated that mastering the more technical British tracks is essential for riders at the very top level to have in their skill set. Unlike many Eastern European riders, Aussies are not quitters and will only move on from their team if asked to do so.
  19. Why on earth haven’t you made everyone aware of Laguta’s availability and keenness to ride in the UK before now? If you hadn’t been keeping this under your hat he would have been snapped up long ago. You appear to be a big fan of his and perhaps ought to have done a bit more to raise his profile and the speedway world’s awareness of his availability. The first thing for British teams to check of course is his average which will be important when looking at guest options after he has completed a few laps and decided that having to constantly turn left in cold weather is not for him.
  20. The main reason that I don’t attend that many away meetings is the uncertainty as to whether it will be on and if so, will it be completed. It seems that more and more meetings are postponed due to weather forecasts and the call can sometimes be made late. I’m too old to see the funny side of travelling a couple of hours or more to probably not see a wheel turned. If the meeting is streamed/televised though, I don’t have make any commitment until tapes up. Greater certainty of meetings taking place can only be achieved if tracks can be prepped and covered. As we all know though, this will never happen.
  21. Whilst the BSN streams (which as you say are very good) may impact attendances, what about the people following the away team who purchase the stream? Away supporters at most tracks are in the minority and I would expect that a sizeable proportion of stream subscribers are following the away team. The purchase of a stream is approximately half the cost of attending a meeting. I don’t know what percentage of the stream fee finds its way to the club, but they will be getting money from people who would never have attended. Whilst we don’t have access to figures, look at the turnstile revenue shortfall on a streamed meeting and compare it with money received from the stream. Bottom line - is there a significant net loss or profit, which is more important than the number of people in attendance on the night?
  22. Although this was a better showing from the Lions I’m pretty sure Dickson is trying to line up his next team change (if he hasn’t already). I would think that Becker is the one looking over his shoulder. Change for change sake though is not the answer (unless he has issues with a rider). The reserve changes he has made have made no difference. Still think that Kemp will score more points over a season than Craig Cook.
  23. Well that would appear to tip the balance in the Ace’s favour then! Honestly, who gives a stuff, I expect the Aces to comfortably rack up 55 points regardless.
