  1. Perhaps but it says a lot when an asset & friend is farmed out to another club. Phillips is one of those riders that can do it but has yet to live up to his potential and is now being swallowed up but other riders coming through. In all honesty im surprised he got & kept the Newcastle gig this season & would be very surprised if he wasn't the poorest performing rider of the 13 drafted. There are a lot of 2 pointers available to clubs and picking the right one will be crucial to every teams season.
  2. Much will depend upon the structure of teams, points limits & can double uppers continue? If not then i suspect no Kennett in the EL next season. Asset or not i can't see Ellis leaving Poole Ditto Starke & Somerset who are also a Friday night track Lawson is a must on his average. Strong rumours linking Nicholls & Lakeside? At a guess Jonsson - 8.45 Lawson - 5.74 Nilson - 6.88 Bech - 6.26 Nicholls - 6.59 Branford - 3.00 Morley - 3.00 Total 39.92
  3. Perhaps. Id agree that it was fairly predictable who would cope and who would struggle although there are a few exceptions and would say Bailey, Perks & Hume would fair better at other tracks / had more time. However how many of these riders would have definitely got a PL place if the rule wasn't introduced? Its a better than 1 in 3 strike rate and surely any success has to be counted as a success when it comes to the development of British riders.
  4. On that basis my side with plenty of room for improvement is 1. R. Wells - 7.71 2. T.Kurtz - 5.76 3. K.Doolan - 6.99 4. L.Bjerre - 6.65 5. Howarth - 7.18 6. M.Clegg - 4.04 7. T.Bacon - 2.00 Total 4.033
  5. Not convinced anyone will take Jacobs on 5.36. Sadly he looks a victim of his own success with Clegg, Perry, Morris, Perry, Bewley, Branford, Boxall, Roynon, Sissis & Wilson-Dean all available on lower averages.
  6. Its got to be said that 99% of the Eastbourne supporters are excellent. Make plenty of noise, travel in good numbers and can appreciate when their riders have been bettered. However there are always a few that spit pure bile & disgusting language/insults at opposing riders but these blinkered individuals are not worthy of being classed as fans.
  7. It wasn't Mildenhall that was protecting his average though it was the family. They were aware he would be an attractive prospect on a 3.00 but not a 7.00 which it could have been due to rolling averages. Much in the same way that whilst Stoneman is an almost cert for Mildenhall he doesn't look superb value on a 7.00 Looking ahead at next season reserves will be more important than ever as there are not many riders available on bargain averages unlike this year so educated guesses will play a part more than ever.
  8. Talking after Sunday’s match at Hi Edge, Rye House Co-Promoter Steve Jenson felt that, “We were certainly up for it, and really wanted to win in order to help round off the season on a high, but it wasn’t to be. “Obviously we missed Ben (Morley) but it was an opportunity to give all the boys a ride. George (Hunter) and Macauley (Leek) did well to support Rob (Branford) and Luke (Priest) with race wins. “Overall, it was a refreshing match with a really positive atmosphere: just fourteen lads going out and enjoying themselves on the track – which is how it should be.” Best comment i have seen from a manager this season considering both sides were running RR!
  9. For Buxton to prosper as a side they need some riders with experience who are able to conquer their tricky home track & pass on that knowledge to the less experienced riders, scour the Scunthorpe winter training schools for new and attractive propositions, track local / northern riders to reduce travelling expenses but most of all look after & respect the riders they track as the attrition rate has been through the roof for the Hitmen this year.
  10. Forget the draft and just insist a team starts the season with 2 brits at reserve and they can only be replaced by brits. Averages can be whatever providing they fit the team building rules. Eligible riders under 25 or with limited EL experience?
  11. Beautifully put. The facts as hard as they may seem are Plymouth cannot continue to run/build teams that the gates do not support - PL Riders have lost rust in the club regarding being paid so would make signings difficult - PL/NL If Plymouth built a PL team that was affordable it most likely would not be competitive - PL Geographically Plymouth is not appealing to riders/supporters for Friday night travel. PL/NL Would a team be sustainable based upon 2016 crowd figures minus 100 who would stay away for reasons various - NL
  12. Yep a very typical Rockets team and one that would bring the same success as previous years.....none. Don't forget the new promotion don't have Lens loyalties (misguided or otherwise) along with his contacts book so would probably sign the wrong Mellgren.
  13. Whilst im sure Birmingham will be happy with the lead i expected a bit more from Bacon,Ritchings & Davey (although didn't expect both reserves to be so powerful). 5 heat wins at home would be a slight cause for concern but the result was still achieved. R/R ultimately decided how this leg went with 8-1 in favour of the big B's. As many have said it does make this a nicely poised tie as i can see Eastbourne strong at home but some Birmingham riders will have better nights also.
  14. If its a head start for age how about Armstrong - 7.82 Atkin - 6.86 Cockle - 7.06 Mason - 6.54 Tedham - 3.93 Clifton 4.22 Burnett - 3.23 Total 39.66 Under the 40 point limit and that team wouldn't be bottom
  15. 1. Grajczonek - 8.90 2. Wilson Dean - 5.02 3. Robson - 7.09 4. Newman - 6.61 5. J.Holder - 7.16 6. Branford - 4.60 7. Perks - 3.00 Total 42.38 Get your cheque book out Rye. If you can afford that lot you can afford me as manager
  16. As an outsider with not real bias to either team i would like to see Brum take the play offs & Eastie the KOC. Brum have been the best team all year although hit by injuries late on whilst Eastbourne were rocked by injuries early on and got off to a slow start but have really hit form now. Fingers crossed for 4 close meetings without any dubious decisions (although i cant see that happening)
  17. I wish and expect many riders to progress into the PL next season however i feel several will benefit from doubling up & the additional rides. I also expect the points limit to come down and clearly this thread is just a bit of fun for the numbers nerds / a compliment to the riders we expect to improve further in 2017.
  18. First in Kent 2017 1. D. Ayres - 8.56 2. A. Bowtell - 4.21 3. D. Greenwood - 6.82 4. B. Hopwood - 6.00 5. T. Bacon - 7.70 6. C. Widman - 3.53 7. J. Jenkins - 3.00 Total - 39.82 Never going to happen but all have gone well around Central Park and has a nice solid feel to the team.
  19. Much will depend on which Rye House riders can get their sick notes in quick enough to avoid the trip? But if Morley,Branford & Priest travel it should be straight forward for them. The match will then be decided on whos reserves lay on the track less? Could be a long afternoon though
  20. A return to the old heats format for me and a point off all British riders averages in the EL & PL accross the board to make them more attractive than foreign imports.
  21. R/R can be a blessing for some teams and a curse for others. Much depends upon the strength of the teams reserves. However i would much rather see a full 1-7. Perhaps its time to amend the rules so that a guest can be used in place of a heat leader and an unattached 3 pointer / number 8 used for missing second strings / reserves? After all its supposed to be a development league and there are plenty of riders who would benefit from the extra track time even if they only got 3 rides.
  22. I cannot agree strongly enough with the last sentence woofers.
  23. From memory although rules may have been updated since? An MDL side can include 2 x NL riders as long as one is on an assessed 3.00 average. From the Line ups both sides tracked 2 x Nl riders that had averages that were over 3.00 so both teams are ineligible and the result null and void? The important issue is that the MDL ran this year and long may it continue. The riders mentioned benefited from it as have many NL/PL/EL riders over recent seasons. Its a shame the season finale has been dragged through the mire but fingers crossed for bigger and better things next season along with lessons learnt.
  24. I think Kennett has said he would pick PL over EL plus he has Longtrack aspirations so a move away from a Saturday night track would suit him.....
