  1. I'm pretty sure Bjorn Knutsson was the first Scandinavian I saw, followed by Sverre and Olle Nygren.
  2. Are there any members old enough to remember the first Scandinavians to ride here? I believe Morian Hansen (West Ham) was the first but I doubt any forum member saw him reide.
  3. We have rather gone off topic...perhaps I should re-title as "Your favourite Swede"
  4. At the time Nordin was widely regarded as the best rider never to have won the title. I was a huge fan.
  5. and that in my honest opinion is a tragedy. I'm only glad I'm old enough to have enjoyed so much speedway in London when I did.
  6. Christer was my second favourite Hammer, Mr. Excitement mk.2
  7. I enjoyed reading that. My wife lived in Loughton before we wed and I was at High Beech in 1968 for the anniversary.
  8. Right on every count Norbold. Sverre was pure excitement.
  9. My mistake...I was certain though. Can't trust my memory these days.
  10. I only went to Oxford once...Oxford v West Ham, 1967 I think. Reeves father and son in the Oxford side. I can;t recall another father/son partnership.
  11. The forerunner to Sverre, Eide, Lovaas, Fossengen et al
  12. Go back 50+ years and Norway was producing more quality riders than Denmark. When did the decline begin and why?. Could theynever produce another Sverre Harrfeldt?
  13. I remember him...he was pretty good without being outstanding.
  14. Unless my memory is playing tricks I was at white City when Penhall rode his first meeting in Britain. He was totally outclassed but got the hang of it pdq. Have I got my wires crossed?.
  15. I was going to mention him as he was the first american rider I recall seeing.
  16. Of course, West Ham had 3 of the best but sadly all before my time .
  17. I always loved my visits to Plough Lane
  18. I can still picture myself sitting in the stand above the start/finish line 50 years ago. Happy days.
