  1. Could do a 5 minute spot on Look North.
  2. I would have thought the meeting starts officially once the Starting Marshall indicates to the Referee he is happy for heat 1 to get under way.
  3. Of course, the West Ham edition has pride of place .
  4. The "Memories" dvd series are a must for us old time fans. I have just watched on youtube the trailer for Memories Of Norwich Speedway" Pure nostalgia and great to see. The thing that strikes me looking at speedway of 50-60 years ago...the huge "cow horn" handlebars. Modern speedway bikes demand a totally different riding style.
  5. If he can recapture the form that brought him 2 SEC wins and keep up his consistency, I believe he could be top 1. In full flight he is the most exciting rider around. Gating can be hit and miss but when he really goes for it, Emil blasting his way from the back is a joy to behold.
  6. Agree staging would be a problem as under current GP schedule the meeting would need to be held Nov-March, although an indoor venue may be available. Not sure why it would be less interesting than the current Challenge though. Are you allowed to use my photo without my permission?
  7. Here's a thought... Scrap wild cards completely, ban GP riders from simultaneously entering the GP Challenge (other than series reserves), scrap the one-off wildcard at each event so we have 16 full-time GP riders. At the end of a season, or before the following season begins, the riders finishing the GP's in places 9-16 (excluding reserves who can try to qualify via the Challenge)meet the top 8 from the Challenge (none of which would be full-time GP riders) over the traditional 20 heat formula. The top 8 then become GP riders for the coming season alongside the 8 already qualified. Or is that too simple?.
  8. If wild cards were picked purely on merit Lebedevs would have been in. He outscored A. Laguta, Milik and Prem Pawlicki in the SEC. In the 3 GP rounds Milik competed in he outscored Holder every time. If the GP is meant to feature the world's best riders surely both Lebedevs and Milik have a legitimate claim.
  9. If Emil had been more consistent and managed to convert semis in to finals, we may have had a different result. He wins 3 on the trot then has 2 lasts, or starts with 2 lasts and wins 3. He regularly makes semis then looks all at sea in them. Emil has been my favourite rider for the past 5 years but this year he seemed to have lost his edge. I was convinced 4 years ago he would be world champion but this year he never looked likely to reach the heights. Maybe next year.
  10. Just a thought and shoot me down if you wish, but if you had a 6,000 capacity stadium and 1,000 paying people attended a meeting, would you not prefer 100 people with free passes buying programmes, drinks, food etc. and swelling the crowd by 10%, particularly if being televised to 100 people staying away and therefore spending nothing?. They may recommend friends or help publicise which may pay dividends in the long term.
  11. Wembley World Final or Cardiff GP?...No contest. I saw Fundin and Penhall among others crowned champion at Wembley. I did not see Hancock crowned champion in Cardiff when I was there in 2014. I always left Wembley excited, I left Cardiff underwhelmed. This may be largely due to the GP format as I much prefer 20 heats, top scorer wins, although I did feel Cardiff was lacking in atmosphere compared to Wembley on World Final night.
  12. I went to Somerton Park in 1967 when West Ham were the visitors. From memory (may be faulty) that year I did Hackney, Wimbledon, Kings Lynn, Oxford, Newport, Cradley, Long Eaton, Coventry, Leicester, Belle Vue (Hyde Road), Glasgow (White City), Edinburgh (Meadowbank), Poole, Swindon. If it wasn't '67 it was '68 or maybe spanning both seasons. I can still hear the seller at West Ham shouting out "Speedway Star, the monthly Speedway Post".
  13. I'm just as sad as I do wear a West Ham badge, sans year bar.
  14. Same here Steve. I parted with all my programmes, books and badges when we down-sized properties. Piles of programmes dating from 1960, countless badges from a whole host of now defunct tracks, Speedway Stars, Speedway Posts, Speedway Pix (remember that?) and a huge pile of books. How I regret that but sadly things had to go. Moving from a 4 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom flat meant sacrifices. Sad thing is, as my memory starts deceiving me I no longer have such a great source of reference, and of course dipping in to old memorabilia brings back such great memories.
  15. Assuming wild cards are offered to Hancock and Pedersen, and it's difficult to see this not happening, and also to the rider finishing the season in 9th, place which happens more often than not, that leaves a hell of a lot of worthy applicants chasing one spot. Iversen, Lebedevs, Milik,Drabik and Hampel spring to mind for a start. What if Holder and Vaculik tie for 9th. place, do both or neither get a wild card?. Personally I don' agree with wildcards as I would prefer top 8 from the series and top 8 from the challenge, but as we have to have them I would opt for Hancock, Pedersen, Milik and Lebedevs.
  16. Good to see riders on the usually unfavoured gate 4 having the room to sweep around the outside.
  17. It seems all interior scenes were shot at Pinewood but all the race footage is genuine on-track. Ron Johnson doubling for Dirk Bogarde.
