  1. He would fit at the expense of Simon, but he would be in the main body of the team.
  2. It's calculated on an average basis of points per meeting or something like that. That actually gives the three team group a slight advantage as each meeting is worth more percentage-wise. Glasgow need two points from their outstanding fixture (14/6 = 2.33) to have a better record than Somerset (9/4 = 2.25). 1 point is not enough (13/6 = 2.16). Berwick have qualified irrespective of whether they finish first or second in the group.
  3. Whilst I can understand Luke Chessell's decision, he should have rode today at Newcastle. Then Glasgow would have had two or three days at least to find a permanent replacement. As it is Luke is deemed to be withholding his services and will surely be hit with a 28 day ban which will impact on his appearances for Stoke in the NL.
  4. Didn't ride in the premiership last season, so I would assume he would come in on his 2017 finishing average which was about 3.6.
  5. Not sure that is the case. True we are over the limit, as is everybody bar Birmingham and Edinburgh, though Edinburgh have added near on a point to there team average. It's just that they were on a really low average to start with. most of our increase is down to Max who has put 0.83 on his average. danny remains on the minimum 2.00. Rolling averages has somehow resulted in Simon's actually increasing to 4.2. He must have dropped some really low scores from early last season for that to happen. There is no sign of Ben riding anywhere this season as of yet as far as I can see. An added bonus is that Max stays at reserve for another month
  6. I very much doubt Newcastle would have agreed to the change of date if Steve was unavailable as we wouldn't be allowed a facility, other than a 2.00 NL rider. According to the SGB website he rides.
  7. There is a new regulation in place this season to bring british speedway in line with the rest of europe. After the starting marshall is happy everyone is lined up at the tapes he indicates that he is happy by dropping his arms. The referee then puts on the green light BEFORE the starting marshall walks from the tapes to the rear of the bikes (unlike last season where the green light wasn't illuminated until the starting marshall was at the rear). This means that the tapes will always be held for at least 5 seconds. No more green light and go.
  8. No it doesn't. It gives the 3 team group a slighter advantage as each match in their group is worth more percentage-wise. Once Workington pulled out they should have split it into a north and south group with top two qualifying.
  9. I thought that was over the transfer fee. Redcar agreed to sell him and we agreed to buy him, but Redcar wanted more than we were prepared to pay so a tribunal set the fee, which I assume was somewhere in the middle. In my example above Redcar would have refused to sell him point blank for any amount. Something which a tribunal couldn't force them to do.
  10. Other than the fact that the club doesn't hold their contract after they've finished riding for them, I can't. They are however regarded as an asset of the club. This applies in the UK only. No other country (as far as I know) operates this system. How this would hold up in a court of law I wouldn't know as nobody yet has challenged the system. I suppose it would take something like club A wanting to use a rider from club B and club B saying no we are not prepared to loan or sell him to you under any circumstances for someone to challenge this.
  11. If you are self-employed then you don't have an employer other than yourself. You are effectively "contracted" to do a job. i.e. paid to to ride by the promoting company, in the same way you'd pay a plumber to redo your bathroom. Unlike a "work" visa which has far stricter conditions. They can do any job or jobs they want as long as they can prove they can afford to live over here. There is nothing in the qualifying criteria which stipulates that anyone has to know where they are 24/7.
  12. Doubt it. He needs to ride a certain number of official (not challenges) fixtures before that happens. Not sure how many it is now but it used to be 12, It is certainly more than the 3 or 4 he's done for Scunthorpe.
  13. From the gov.uk website Overview You can apply for a UK Ancestry visa if you: are a Commonwealth citizen are applying from outside the UK are able to prove that one of your grandparents was born in the UK are able and planning to work in the UK meet the other eligibility requirements Fees Your UK Ancestry visa will cost £516. Healthcare surcharge You may also have to pay the healthcare surcharge as part of your application. Check how much you’ll have to pay before you apply. Get a faster decision on your application If you’re applying to extend in the UK you can pay an extra £800 for the super priority service to get a decision within 1 working day. How long you can stay You can stay in the UK for 5 years on this visa. You can apply to extend your visa. You can also apply to settle in the UK permanently. What you can and cannot do You can: work study bring family members You cannot: change (‘switch’) into this visa if you’re already in the UK on another visa get public funds Further on it states you need to prove you have either offers of employment or a business plan if you are self employed. They must already have done that otherwise they wouldn't have been allowed in. It is essentially to prove they have the means to live without applying for benefits.
  14. Don't need one, and there are no 'strings attached'. Both have 5 year paltriality visa's as they have an uk grandparent. Essentially they can do any job they want without needing 'employer sponsorship'. That is why MacDonald has come over, despite Workington closing, and List hasn't been sent home.
  15. We could, as they both come in on a 4.00. Whether we would want to, I don't know. No disrespect but Jedd List is possibly a 3.00 at best. I would have taken a punt on Josh when the preseason team changes were forced upon us. Don't know if he was considered.
  16. I'm not convinced that's the case at all. Danny wasn't in our team plans last season even after Mr Phillips senior joined the promotion. However when the team's new sponsors came on board they wanted Danny in the team. However they were persuaded otherwise last year due to the way the team was being built (out of necessity) and in the end they made a major contribution to making Danny a Newcastle asset instead. So it is highly possible that they had some say in Danny being in the team this year. Don't forget that without them (and all the other sponsors) we'd probably all be sitting at home on a sunday evening engaged in some thumb twiddling. That said I wouldn't disagree that a change is possibly needed, but with who. In NL he is regularly beating most, if not all, possible contenders. I see he's top scored ( 5R 10+1)for Belle vue colts at Kent tonight from the number 3 slot. Outscoring both Leon Flint and Kyle Bickley. Kent is more or less the same size as Redcar and nothing like the size of Belle Vue. The no. 2 slot is a bigger worry for me. Simon's average has dropped by nearly a point while Max has improved by over 2.00. I have no problem about Max moving up to no 2 but Simon dropping down to reserve?? We will be woefully weak at reserve on current form. At the moment he isn't even beating opposition number 7's. Replacing him after the new greensheets come out means we will be looking for a 3.00 as opposed to a 4.00 pointer ( we are over the 38 point limit). Ben Hopwood has been mentioned but his current average (if correct) would put us over if you want him to replace Danny. After the greensheets he's probably too high to replace Simon! But he hasn't even got a NL slot this year so I don't know if he's retired, injured, or not.
  17. They can't afford to wait until the new averages kick in if they want to replace Simon. His average is dropping, however Max's average is increasing by more than 2.00 with the rest very much of a muchness (Danny will always be a minimum of 2.00). This means we will be over the points limit when new greensheets are introduced, therefore if Simon drops to 3.5ish then we will only be able to replace him with someone who is below 3.5, which is approx 0.75 his current GS figure.
  18. Hope there is no traffic holdups on the M6 or during the NL meeting as Danny is riding at Belle Vue at lunchtime v stoke (13:00 start). That'll be a 15:00ish finish IF all goes well.
  19. True but it was the I.O.W. Which, if memory serves me right, is more akin to a larger Peterborough than a technical Brough Park.
  20. Well we are top of the league now and at least for the next two weeks!!!
  21. I see Max finished 3rd behind Barker and Bates in tonights Pride of the Potteries ( a.k.a. Ben Barker benefit) with 13 points from 5 rides. Danny a creditable 6th with 9. Admittedly a mainly NL field, but even so should be a confidence boost for both of them.
  22. I very much doubt we will have any "extra" points to play with by the end of June so will have to exchange (if we wish) like for like. Anybody who is under 40 is going to be bottom of the table by a long way
  23. Not quite. starting marshall gets riders to the tapes, green light on, STARTING MARSHALL WALKS TO THE REAR OF THE BIKES, then tapes up and go. This means that there should be a delay of at least 5 to 10 seconds after the green light come on before the tape are lifted. if the rule is not followed and the tapes are lifted immediately green light is illuminated then riders are unprepared as they are expecting a delay.
  24. On a one off that's true but a ref doesn't decide t totally ignore the rule for the whole match which is what is happening in speedway
  25. Back in the hey day it was better racing as there was far more dirt on the tracks than now (unless it was Eastbourne!).
