It was under the injury replacement facility due to him fracturing his wrist so technically he wasn't dropped from the team "per se" he was temporarily replaced due to injury, There do you like that explanation better. It was all explained on the web site with more to follow!!! Regards THJ

Agreed - its a tough call and I feel it is always honourable when a club stands by a rider, it doesn't always happen unfortunately. Workington dropped Mason Campton for a short period whilst he recovered from a broken wrist; bringing in BWD, then reverting back to their original 1-7 once Mason was ready to go again and this arrangement worked out really well for all concerned. However like everything in life some decisions work and others don't. Who would be a promoter/team manager eh!!!! Regards THJ

Hi to all Workington Fans. Here is the rub, running in 2019 will be very difficult and honestly it still is in doubt as to whether we will be coming to the tapes next year, however I am proposing something different and developing a business plan (with others) to save the club and to ensure it runs at least for the next three years whilst Derwent Park is still available, what happens after this period we can worry about then. What I am looking for is some commitment from fans; local businesses or anyone who has contact details of anyone who can offer support who I can talk to, the proposal is to form a new partnership (LLP) to run the club. For obvious reasons I can not go into much detail on here however, I do have the bit between my teeth; but I can not do this all on my own. I am working with the promotion to formulate a plan to take the club forward and continue with the sport in Workington. The Club "end of season bash" is at the Workington Railway Club this Friday and I will be open for any discussions then where the plan can be discussed or if anyone would like to PM me I can provide details. The Speedway Trust who have provided invaluable support over the last two seasons and will be heavily involved along with all of the fan base. It is an open secret that the club isn't financially viable and has had cash flow problems, hopefully my proposal will go a long way to correcting this. As the BSPA General Meeting is coming up fast this proposal is time limited unfortunately as certain assurances and guarantees have to be met at the BSPA AGM. So come on Workington how much do you want Speedway, its your call. Once its gone I very much doubt you will ever get it back Regards THJ

DP has three years (minimum) then it is look for a new home. If the club is still running. Regards THJ -
It was rumoured that Oxford would have been a viable spot to resurrect the sport possibly using the Lakeside licence, however you are moving further out of London and another 70 to 90 miles further away from Rye and Arena Essex, I am setting myself up here however is this a possibility worth exploring or am I being Totally Ridiculous? Looks like Ged has got shot and the Panthers will be getting a new owner. Top league there you go and you have your wish. Regards THJ -
Honestly Sheffield made the same mistake with young Josh Bates Newcastle did with Andy Tully when he came off and fractured the bone in his back before the season had started at P&P day, Sheffield waited far to long to change their team. Both clubs should have changed their starting line ups re-declaring and said to the riders when you are fit we will try and accommodate you. But we will start with a team of seven riders from the off, not guests and R/R However the clubs did the honourable thing and waited for the rider to get fit and hoped they would slot back into the side sooner rather than later and in the case of Josh B it didn't happen at all which I think put a strain on the rest of the riders in the team, ultimately leaving them too much to claw back when they finally bit the bullet and replaced him which also meant the changes become more desperate, and mid-season which again is never a good thing. This wasn't the only issue but it didn't start the season off on the right foot for Sheffield at all IMHO. It must be hard though for a promotion to go back to the drawing board when you think you have got the right formulae and team only for it all to go belly up before you have even turned a wheel Regards THJ

Peterborough Panthers 2019
TotallyHonestJohn replied to Flappy's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Here's Johnny Hello boys am back!!!! At last JCF the voice of reason on the Panther's 2019 thread and well done for getting the thread back on topic, at last a poster whose posts are meaningful and insightful; someone whose knowledge leaves the other "numbties" on here trailing in his wake; a person who has showed an accurate and deep understanding; of all things Peterborough whose perceptive talents are widely recognised. To Quote Desiderius Erasmus: “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king" However; and keeping strictly on topic as you suggest; your proposed team selection of Kennett, 7.25 Nicholls, 8.35 Palm Toft, 7.96 Wilson-Dean, 6.00 Lambert,4.29 Bacon 4.67 Total 38.52 If it ends up where everyone runs with 6 man teams; building to 36 points as has been suggested; you are slightly over the top, (+2.52) however if nothing changes and everything stays the same with 7 man teams and a 42.5 point build limit you have 3.98 available for you last place. Not a bad effort:, all will become much clearer after the BSPA AGM I would suggest. Happy hunting Regards THJ -
2nd leg play off final
TotallyHonestJohn replied to scaramanga's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Honestly What a night and first off to the Hammers fans please don't assume your guys rolled over. I was in the pits and on the track and the Lakeside lads put a shift in but met a side so focused and determined they just couldn't counter the effort put in by the Worky 6. Even little Tero who I have sponsored for the last few seasons got swept up with the occasion, emotion, focussed drive and desire and I have never seen him so pumped up. Brilliant!!! This Worky team does not know when it's beaten which isn't bad for a team full of second strings and a journeyman at reserve. Never did I personally think for one minute that this team would achieve what it has (I honestly don't think anyone did) to use a poignant football equivalent it's Leicester City all over as no one gave them a chance when they won the league. 5000/1 their odds were in winning the league and the Worky odds although possibly not as high as that they were rank outsiders to do anything let alone achieve what they have. I would like to go on record and personally thank the promotion for all their effort and allowing me the opportunity to be part of this success story, it's been a roller coaster ride with some nervous moments at times but what a brilliant season. I can't really add to some of the fantastic comments that have been posted on here and hopefully we can put the icing on the cake with the Shield Final tonight. Oh and on a slight side note there was 969 fans through the doors last night with 60 guests and those figures do not include any track staff. Again nothing against the Hammers who reached the final on merit I wonder what the crowd would have been if the final had of been against a northern club or one of the Scottish sides who have large away support? 1500?. The place was bouncing last night with a fantastic atmosphere and if Worky could pull these numbers in every meeting there wouldn't be a cloud hanging over the clubs future. Regards THJ -

Jesus has someone pinched Jenga's lap top and started posting as him... that's about the fourth good post he's put out in as many days.... either turned over a new leaf or had a bump to the head. When I get back in the office i will post what the local reporter put in the paper as it made interesting reading on the meeting heat by heat and provided a different pair of eyes and perspective Couldn't remember what happened to save my life I was so caught up in the moment then got stinking rotten drunk which always plays havoc with the old memory cells. Doh!!! It was a duty after filling that cup with drink and for reference it takes a gallon no problem. That's if anyone is interested of course. Regards THJ -

The Hodderston Hammers (or someting similar) will be back next year. Hopefully something both sets of fans can rally around to make the sport more viable. Also I was surprised how much Rye had changed since my last visit (the year before they went elite) and I take back all the Bravardo bull about being a rough tough Northerner who could withstand the cold... it was bloody freezing and my knees are still cold to the touch and that was after driving back with them jammed into the car heater.... Brrrrr. Regards THJ -

To be fair whoever comes out on top it will be a fantastic achievement with the adversity and messing around both clubs have gone through. Regards THJ -
In a word cold but clear and unlike last night when only 30 mile from Hodderston no snow showers or persistant rain to drve through on the way and I can't disagree with you the Hammers top 3 would be number 1's in most other clubs 7. Worky will need to be on thier game tonight as this mach is far from over. 84 is the draw so the Hammers need 41 to clinch the title Worky have to restrict 2 of those 3 to less than double figures and not run any last places. I can see another last heat decider and the law of averages dictate Workingtons run must come to an end soon and with Richard Lawson the Hammers have a rider capable of swinging the meeting in the their favour. So it might be a cold night but the atmosphere will be red hot I suspect and definitely in my opinion still wide open with the Hammers at present having ever so slightly the upper hand. But we will see Regards THJ
