I don’t think you can blame the lad that much, he’s rode for the club for 3 years which is a reasonable length of time and wants to move on. If he had slagged the club off or left mid way through a season I could maybe understand some anger but he’s within his rights to decide where he wants to ride
-
I think with Ablitt he just doesn’t quite have the consistently from meeting to meeting just yet, however I do think there is a good rider in there. He’s only young and dominated a number of the youth ranks when he was younger. For me he’s a 50/50 for 2027, wouldn’t be shocked to see him but also wouldn’t be shocked to see him dropped

Didn’t know that to be honest. Just thought he was out as he has been doing the Buxton events only recently

So the end of season is here and what a season it’s been for the Scoripons upsetting all the odds to tie the final and be robbed by an unfortunate referring error. Turning our attention to next year where we do we go with this team. As someone who has been to most meetings my general opinions are ramblings as some might say about each rider are below. Josh Pickering - Superb no1 best in the league and great entertainment. Michael Palm Toft -was totally horrific for the first 2/3 of the season then totally turned it on for the latter half of the season. Would I sign him again, probably. Luke Harrison - progressed nicely and was do well in the No5 berth. Already said he is going elsewhere for 2027 and wish him nothing but the best. Connor Mountain - Always reasonably consistent and reliable, looking at his average I would deffo get him in for 27. Nathan Ablitt - arrived on an inflated average and hadn’t rode the year before. Nathan definitely progressed and did well enough in the main body however when it came down to it in big meetings he went missing. The jury’s out as to whether I want him back. Jacob Hook - Had the unenviable task of signing half way through the season and then got injured. Unsurprisingly struggled and didn’t lower his average enough to entice me into thinking he’s a good signing. Ryan Ingram - Had a great first season at the level, was super around the EWR however struggled away from home. Would I sign him for his home form? Probably, however needs to offer a little more away from home on that average in 27. Potential incomings - as we all know Rob has his mould of rider. I would like Jordan Jenkins however I think Berwick will be after him. Have seen Tate Zischke mentioned on this thread, he would be a great signing on his average and rides the EWR well, however can’t see it. We probably need another lower point reserve and I don’t know where it’s coming from. Do we take a pun on Vinne Foord or Jack Smith? I think i worked out that James Shanes average is 3.22 with all the new reductions for riders returning to the sport, and I dare I say it Jason Garrity would be on a good average but how would that go down with the fans?

Scunthorpe Vs Edinburgh 28/8/26
Ryan555 replied to Fozzie4388's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Rained a lot overnight but quite sunny now. Believe there’s chance of a shower this afternoon but on the scorpions Facebook they seem confident the match will go ahead -
Apparently he said in one of the post match interviews in the cafe that he’s keen to stay next year!! I certainly hope he does!
-
Yeah I would agree 5+2 riding at number 3 in his first meeting is a decent effort!
-
Scunthorpe wouldn’t have been able to run R/R because Gilkes was dropping to reserve this month. I think it’s perfectly reasonable that you are allowed to replace an injured rider and thought it has always been the rule.
-
Well Jacob Hook it is. As people have said it won’t be easy for him to jump straight In having not really ridden much this season however there’s no doubting he is a talented lad. Scunthorpe aren’t been blessed with options, the only other rider I could think of was Fredriksen who was one short of the Olympic rings at the EWR earlier this year. As for those saying why didn’t they change earlier I think the Scunthorpe promotion were looking at changes however since the recent strong run in form you aren’t gonna make any changes, they would be silly to change a winning formula!
-
If a rider is injured (which Gilkes is) I believe you can make changes after the deadline
-
Has he even come over to Europe this summer? Is he racing in Poland? Edit - looking at his Facebook page for his racing he rode in a meeting in Aus in June. Can’t imagine he would come all the way from Aus for a handful of meetings.
-
Yeah Jonas fits, I think he would be a good signing for Leicester.
-
I have just spotted Anti Vuolas in the crowd which is an interesting one!
-
Great win for the scorpions, particularly impressed with Ablitt and Harrison who don’t usually travel to well. All the best to Dan Gilkes - got to feel for the lad. As for team changes it’s fairly clear and obvious in my opinion as from the 1st June average change Jordan Jenkins can replace Gilkes. I know Jenkins hasn’t had an amazing start but he’s a quality rider and it was only last season where he banged in a bucket load of points at the EWR
-
Any other team is the division would make use of the these points before they disappear, but will he, who knows?!
-
Whilst I do like Mountain I have to agree. Given the current averages you could bring in Drew Kemp (or Anti Vuolas) for him and then suddenly the scunny team doesn’t look half bad!
-
Strong performance from the scorpions last night albeit against poor opposition. Must say Ryan Ingram is continuing to impress me!
-
Interesting reading Simon Lamberts post on social media he said ‘changes’ insinuating there will probably be more than one change
-
Did anyone go in the bar after the meeting? Was there anything said, the centre green announcer teased an announcement but could have been pure waffling

Scunthorpe v Poole 10/4/26 KO Cup second leg

Well I thought scunny put in a spirited performance last night despite the tie being realistically over. Pickering class as usual whilst the young guns of Ablitt and Ingram both impressed me a lot! -
The track is usually quite grippy particularly around the the fence at scunny, maybe it was prepared slick due to the early season weather / coldness.
