Sgp-rules Clarification
Steve Turner replied to JanusMillard's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I can't say it's perfect, but I do consider it less corrupt, false or inept than all other regular motorsport world championships. Generally, money talks everywhere else...at least we have some kind of recognisable qualifying system Anyway, that's for another time maybe... -
Sgp-rules Clarification
Steve Turner replied to JanusMillard's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Well I have to assume with that one. But it seems like they've decided that riders who've been in the previous series get the best ranking, qualifiers come next in line, then it's the guys that don't fall in to either category. Which must also mean they chose Kasprzak to be above Lindgren in the rankings. Agreed ? -

Janus, don't be offended but I was falling asleep making mental notes of it all (Have you tried Carlo Rossi rosé wine with brandy and lemonade ? It's good ! ) Reading that set of three again - apologies... It would clearly be E, then F and finally D. -
Sgp-rules Clarification
Steve Turner replied to JanusMillard's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'm not just assuming this, I think I've either read it or heard it from a rider/official or whatever... The FIM consider selected permanent wildcards as higher ranked riders than those who qualify by following the process. Therefore, they use the ranking number as the final deciding system in cases like above. -

Janus...in the case you've written - A, B and C will be decided by their GP numbers (not meeting number, but GP ranking number) and after that order is arranged D, E and F will also be decided that way. -
Just four things I'll reply to there Tomasz Jędrzejak is a fine rider. Better than all three Brits at the moment, I'd say. Jonas Davidsson (the real one, granted ! ) is also a very good rider. As for Nermark, he's a classy rider, not great, but he made the most of two Gate 1's in his last two rides. It had a HUGE advantage all meeting. Of the four riders who had that 'double' benefit, only Danny King missed out. And as for Dave winning the meeting...maybe he thought the same, and so opted out of practice to earn money instead. But you, like he, will never know what might have been...

Watt A Mess !
Steve Turner replied to smartace's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Surely you're not suggesting the GP circus might be losing out on something because of that though Subedei ? The three or four riders, who could actually score points in a GP, all qualified from this Semi comfortably, so... Personally I think Dave Watt is a good enough rider to be battling for a place in there, but is he actually bovvered ? -
Watt A Mess !

Makes no difference in an FIM meeting. -
Watt A Mess !
Steve Turner replied to smartace's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Fair's fair... If Watt doesn't make it, either through unnecessary risk-taking with the travel, bad luck, or because he's really not that bothered - who's earned a crack at a place in the GP Final more than Kenny Bjerre ? For the record, I'm not a fan of either of them, but I respect Kenny for trying to qualify with a broken leg and I believe he's a better all-round rider than almost anyone not already in the GP series. AND cherry drops ain't what they used to be -

Just to keep the thread alive The line-up for the first of the two semi's, from Motala in Sweden...home to the Pirates 1. Peter Karlsson SWE 2. Mads Korneliusen DEN 3. Jonas Davidsson SWE 4. Dave Watt AUS Slight error of judgment made by Mr Watt. Excluded from meeting. Replaced by Kenneth Bjerre DEN 5. Matej Ferjan HUN 6. Tobias Kroner GER 7. Simon Stead ENG 8. Tomasz Jędrzejak POL 9. Daniel Nermark SWE 10. Niels-Kristian Iversen DEN 11. Ales Dryml CZE 12. Edward Kennett ENG 13. Daniel King ENG 14. Adrian Rymel CZE 15. Grzegorz Walasek POL 16. Rory Schlein AUS reserve 18. Martin Smolinski GER I think Walasek is the 'home-track' rider. If he makes it to the Final, it's gonna be held on his home Polish track, Zielona Góra ! Motala's not a big track or a trick track, but you do need great engines. Top 8 go through to the Final in a couple of months time.

I guess updates will appear somewhere, and at least a link will be posted on here. But I'm not likely to be around at that time, sorree. IF I am, I'll let ya know. I can give you updates from Silverstone on Sunday, if that's any good ? I can do that now actually, save me money. Steve Turner is very drunk and may actually have fallen asleep in that strange position. Re-read every 30 minutes. But aside from that, I don't eat ice-cream anyway ! Yuk, nasty stuff

Who's Going To Cardiff
Steve Turner replied to lady s's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
In that case, it MUST have been me then Pleased to meet ya ! ------ Really enjoyed Cardiff again this year, can't wait for the next one ! Had a really good time. Loved every minute of the GP (track was a bit easy for my liking, but that was the only snag) Star of Friday - Neil Middleditch Star of Saturday - Marek Wojaczek No complaints from me at all. Although it's worth noting the crowd was well down on last year, but I expected that... -
2008 Grand Prix Competition
Steve Turner replied to beesboybert's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Bert, I'll bin Kasprzak (hated having him in my team, and he's been woeful...) and replace him with Lindgren. And it's time to drop the Wild Card (Baby Kennett may do alright, but I wouldn't get much from the next 2 GP's after Cardiff). Iversen comes in. Cheers geez -

Steve Turner replied to Blazeaway's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Crump was silly, he built the speed up from the previous bend and should have made an easy pass. He was so much faster than Pedersen. Why he wasn't as far left as he could have been, away from Nicki, only he knows. He made it too easy for the ref to throw him out. I'm still waiting for someone to tell me which Heat was a good one...? As I wasn't listening to any of the commentary or interviews, did any rider say that the track was slicker than normal ? I'm interested who, as it looked like normal to me. I thought the track watering (every 4 races) was weird, they didn't bring dirt down from the fence and water that into the mix, they just watered the concrete That might be down to Ole, but who knows... From the bumps that were visible from Heat 2 onwards I'd say that practice ruined any chance the track had of providing a spectacle, rather than anything else. We all know it CAN be good there. Although, we could say that about anywhere really -
