That sounds terrible, and also entirely unfair on the younger riders who would ride at 6 and 7. -

I know Lando Norris' clothing brand done a Speedway marketing campaign, but again that wasn't well utilised -

You can then explain to the Chelsea fan that Oxford had three teams to keep the sport running and then had Charles wright riding for them on a monday and then against them on a wednesday -

They could promote one of the teams in London that would be local to Chelsea fans. Just a shame there aren't any -

That is something I have always hated about speedway. How can a rider ride for multiple different teams. Also the constant forced changes to teams due to points limits would often make it hard to keep the same riders year in year out for the fans to build a connection to - especially the newer fans -

Where have the rumours the peterborough will be back in 2027 come from. Have they even got a track? -
Someone else mentioned this the other day and I have since been in contact with the guy who developed the app to talk about ideas and how he done it

Sorry if that comes across as me criticising what you have done, as I know how time consuming setting up databases and collecting databases can be. I am trying to do that pretty front end now and you are correct, it does take a lot of time, but hopefully I can find the time to get it done

I agree with you, physical media and the real thing is always the best - put it this way, I wouldn't buy the digital version of the Speedway Star, but I will buy the physical copy. I am just trying to think of ways to make the sport easier to follow and understand for new and existing fans. If you could see all the scores, news, tables, rider profiles, etc in one space, it makes it easier to learn about the sport.
-
You are right, it probably isn't aimed at you, but I am trying to think of how I can make the sport more interesting, easy to follow and accessible to people my age as that is the only way the sport will continue. My thought process with the programme argument for the people who have mentioned that is, if you gain 1 person at a £20 admission fee that offsets the £3 loss on not selling a programme

Yeah I know they can be found with some digging, but again it is another site, with poor UI/UX, which is fine if you are a stats enthusiast, but not if you are someone who wants something quick and easy and visually pleasing.

Lots of good stuff in here and all stuff that could be linked in one main British speedway app. Thanks for the ideas.
-
The idea was to have a direct feed from the referees scorecard, as I know BSN do that and was hoping with the correct backing I would be able to use it as well, but as you say that would need support from BSPL/SCB. The main idea was to make this information and past meetings as accessible as possible as it can be found, but it is often in different places and not easy to find if you don't know. Someone new to the sport is not going to know of sites like speedway updates, but would be more likely to download an official app IMO. Also there isn't anywhere you can see a riders career history and stats, or more in depth information to learn about teams and riders.

Ah ok, so it isn't an app then, it is a shortcut to a webpage.
-
Sorry if I am being really stupid here, but what is it called because I can't see it on any app stores

Ah ok, that makes sense. I have always found the concept of teams being limited by averages a little weird, and imo it is part of the reason for the short term thinking in terms of rider development as it is not worth developing a rider as they improve their average and then you cant fit them in your team. It particularly affects the middle order riders or young reserves who reach a 6 or 7 average after a few years -

How exactly are averages calculated. I always thought it was based on the riders programmed rides, but clearly I got that wrong if you are saying that RR rides are included -
Yes licensing would be an issue if it was to be an official app, but hopefully given that there isn't one currently I am hoping the relevant people will be on board with it an help with the necessary stuff to get it approved.

I mean you wouldn't if sponsorship, attendances and TV money was at the level Poland is, but that is not the point I was making. The point I was making is if British Speedway was at the same level as Polish speedway you are not choosing 14 journeyman British riders with part time jobs over the best riders in the world
-
Thats how I thought it worked. Through doing some research I know BSN have a direct feed to the referees built into their website so was trying to get them to allow me to use that, but not had any luck so far, but with proof of concept I am hoping I can maybe pitch something a bit more concrete to them. I am also not worried about wasting time as I am using it to improve my skills for my career as I work as a software developer, so doing something like this will help in that regard
-
Again these examples you are mentioning are websites, that have their drawbacks. Speedway updates is struggling for people to provide the relevant updates and BSN is a website no matter how you dress it up and only provides meeting updates, no tables, rider history. The website layouts are no very accessible and require you to know where to look. @IainB You mentioned "Speedway Updates pretty much has this covered although even they take some of their results from the BSN site", is this someone just manually copying the results from BSN, or is it done automatically?

Anyone saying they would rather watch 14 2nd tier riders over 14 GP riders is lying. If there was Wroclaw vs Torun or Poole vs Glasgow on the same distance away from me, I am picking the first meeting everyday of the week.

I didn't think they had a mobile app, I thought they just had a website?
