  1. It looks like 3 for a win and one for a defeat, and one for the aggregate bonus.
  2. 1 Nobody wants to stage the world cup as it is (hence the spread over three countries this year) 2 With 6-8 man teams even fewer nations would compete - either because of cost or lack of strength in depth (remember USA found 5 man teams too much and didn't take part last year) 3 too many matches not involving the host nation would be a financial risk However what I would like to see is a format that allows team racing so that every race involves two pairs of riders from two of the four participating countries
  3. Ah yes White City Grand Prix Final(83 I think) run-off for first Nielsen from the gate but Sigalos wins from the back Great Stuff
  4. Reached World under-21 semis in 1999 (finishing 10th, between Josef Franc and Lukas Dryml) Then disappeaered until this season!
  5. You've been reading my posts haven't you http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/ind...ndpost&p=424936
  6. Spot on. People are writing off Nicholls, yet Scotty was averaging over six in the Elite league when he was the age that Wright, Kennett and King now are. All three are talented but there is no evidence yet that any of them are as good as Scott Nicholls, let alone good enough to win a GP. Even Lee Richardson who is often cited as the example of a late developer was averaging 9.6 in the Premier League when he was the same age as Wright/King/Kennett People underestimate just how special a future world champion has to be
  7. A better bet for Russian speedway is: http://www.russpeedway.ru/ and the links page will lead you to other sites: http://www.russpeedway.ru/index.php?module...c=display&pid=1
  8. Came across this on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0...6379205-6755020 A new book from Norbold. So Norbs tell us what's in it And yes I'll be ordering a copy.
  9. Long Eaton published their crowds in the programme for a couple of years in the mid ninties - average figure was 8-900 which I would say was accurate (John Turner wasn't the kind of promoter to diddle the taxman) Coincidentially I'm currently reading the history of Ipswich speedway (Barber & Feakes) which quotes crowds in 1954 of: 19,029 v Glasgow White City and 19,184 v Norwich and this was a division 2 track at a time of decline in speedway!
  10. Please e-mail me a list to, too: arnie_gibbons2004@yahoo.co.uk cheers
  11. Russian league Fixtures: 1 21.04. Also June 4 - World Cup Qualifier Aug 17 - European Under-19 QR also watch out for Polish fixtures as they might follow Lvov and ride in the Polish League (On http://www.sportowefakty.pl/index.php?dysc...7&news_id=52169 there appears to be a press release annnouncing their team for 2005 so it looks like a yes) and I guess Latvian Open Championship may b estaged (in October last year)
  12. Nothing to do with planning It concerns the granting of a licence by the SCB In general planning law is blind to competition
  13. I was standing on the fourth bend right where it happened. Cook and Doncaster needed a 5-1 in the final heat of the second leg to win the cup 78-77 on aggregate. For 3/4 quarters of a lap they had it. Then coming out of the fourth bend Cook (on the inside) appeared to nudge Donkey pushing him towards the fence and letting the Oxford pairing thru for the minor places. Was it deliberate or a racing accident? - hard to judge . And not withstanding this Cook was the most entrtaining rider I've ever seen
  14. Have now finally tracked down results from Ukraine at http://www.speedway.radiorivne.com.ua/html/itogi4.htm So 2004 champs are: Senior Trofimov junior - senko team - chervonograd
  15. Can I add: Argentina- Luis Vallejos Romania - ???? [2003 Alexandru Toma] Croatia - Jurica Pavlic (by virtue of being highest [2nd] finisher in the Austrian-Croatian Championship Norway - League - Elgane &..........-individual - Arnt Forland Latvia - Kjastas Puodzuks Netherlands - Jannick de Jong Hungary -Team - Simon & Wolff South Africa - ???????? (held over four rounds all I know is that Eugene Smith was leading after two - he is also the 2003 champion) Ukraine - 2003: idividual Alexsandr Lyatosinski; junior Sergei Senko; Team - speedway club Trofimov (Rovno) ...as for 2004 - individual - Vladimir Trofimov was leading after 2 rounds, I have not seen a result for the 3rd (& final) round) - junior- Sergei Senko leading after 2 rounds - was there a third? -Team - round 1 won by Chervonograd - were there other rounds?
  16. Can't speak for Robyn but I used a 30 bus from Kings Cross preceeded by train to Paddington and the circle line. And now strangely I live close to the number 30 route - but sadly don't use it for speedway
  17. Averaged six in the Swedeish Elite League last year. Compare these (from Marcin Babnis' site): 44 Sebastian Alden (Masarna) 21 85 113 15 128 6.20 5.87 6.02 45 Tomasz Chrzanowski (Vastervik) 17 80 102 17 119 6.63 5.42 5.95 46 Ales Dryml (VMS Elit) 18 84 102 22 124 6.35 5.37 5.90 47 Henrik Gustafsson (Indianerna) 17 83 109 13 122 6.58 5.05 5.88 48 Chris Harris (Kaparna) 10 45 54 12 66 6.33 5.33 5.87 49 Joe Screen (Vargarna) 16 76 95 16 111 5.76 5.94 5.84 50 Adam Shields (Vargarna) 17 97 124 17 141 6.31 5.38 5.81 51 Kim Jansson (Kaparna) 20 88 110 17 127 5.77 5.78 5.77 52 Damian Balinski (Piraterna) 18 85 112 10 122 6.43 4.92 5.74 53 David Howe (Smederna) 10 44 53 10 63 5.79 5.60 5.73 54 Stefan Andersson (Piraterna) 17 81 107 8 115 6.24 5.10 5.68 55 Fredrik Lindgren (Masarna) 20 85 95 25 120 5.95 5.39 5.65
  18. 26 June 1976 Cradley v Reading - rained off (the one brief break in that long hot summer). The Reading coach turns round and heads for Swindon in the hope that speedway is still on there. On the wettest track I have ever seen racing take place the Mike Keen testimonial goes ahead. Dag Lovaas scores a maximum winning most of his rides by a straight. Boy could he ride a wet track
  19. Have spent most of today reading. Highly recommended - unless you are very easily offended. Remarkably candid. I was always a great fan of JB (and Ipswich from that era) but he was clearly not a man to suffer fools gladly. He is fairly uncomplimentary to a whole string of referees, most promoters and many riders (Peter Collins included). I found his comments about John Cook (my favourite all-time rider) and his throwing of the 1985 cup final unsettling. I won't tell you how it ends
  20. and then ran two open meetings in late 93 before joining BL 3 for its inaugral year in 1994. After 1995 season returned to Shielfield
  21. If you want a really funny book try NL90 by John Callaghan and if you wanta really controversial book, try: NL90 by John Callaghan (JC was a contributor to Milton Keynes programmes until the MK promotion was instructed by the BSPA to stop publishing his views following a piece about a ban on Miichael Lee)
  22. Congratulations for the most stupid post of the week. Does the name Fred Williams mean anything to you? or how about Ken McKinlay?
  23. I think that any of the current top 8 who drop out would get a nomination for next year, so assuming that the top 8 are as at present that would leave: Richardson - a must as he is currently 9th so could displace one of the top 8 Andersen - he's won a GP now and is clearly good box office Hampel - has had a good GP season and is still young Nicholls - would be top 10 for certain and probably top 8 but for injury and the fifth seeded spot is up for grabs: Loram - would they seed three Brits - I doubt it Sullivan - has done nothing in his year's GP to merit inclusion Max - ditto Holta - poor GP season, but there is a GP in Norway and his Swedish/Polish league form is good Dryml L - on the strength of 2003 and with an eye on Czech GP and if we are looking for newcomers: Norris - again can't seed to many Brits, not done much outside UK Zagar - an outside bet if he wins under 21 given there is a Slovenian GP
  24. But he only got one point at Wroclaw in a league match last week.
