I find it so sad the way people have to belittle other people's sporting interests. I suppose that's what you get reading a bunch of blokes spouting rubbish on a forum..... I love speedway but also enjoy several other sports. There are plenty I don't though but I respect the rights of others to enjoy them.......or on TV, news (bunch of people saying words), drama (bunch of people saying other people's words), soap operas (bunch of people saying other people's words over and over again). or TV itself (bunch of dots whizzing round a screen).

I prefer my software on the pc, bought with a single one-off payment rather than constantly being charged 'in-game' or monthly. The current online with 'in-game' purchasing will be seen through eventually.

So often in televised meetings the crowd's out of sight of the cameras on the home straight. That said the crowds obviously stay home but then the promotion do get compensation from Sky theoretically to cover it. It does suggest that it's dangerously easy for people to decide to stay home - could it be the price is too high? We had it thirty years ago on Screen Sport - people at the studio joking there were no crowds. We told them we couldn't force people to move round the track - instead we deliberately tried to show the home straight crowd views, say in the background of interviews.

May I suggest that if you have such a job and if you are contributing here as part of that job that you really should be using your real name rather than hiding behind a pseudonym? That goes to all others in such a situation here. Surely it's only fair that people are able to distinguish between those posting as supporters and those posting as part of their job?

Of course it is. Lambert was riding against heat leaders and the occasional second string but no reserves as a heat leader so his is falsely low. Meantime Korneliussen was racing a mix against all classes of rider including easier rides against the reserves and his is falsely high. It's far, far easier to achieve a six point average from second string than heat leader but not as easy as while riding at reserve. Since the protected heats formula was introduced averages have been totally meaningless. Using them to then determine team positions is ridiculous. If anything Korneliussen's average is actually less false since it was earned riding against heat leaders, second strings and reserves as all riders did prior to the new formula being introduced. On a more relevant note, what a great speedway meeting that was!

I've worked at Lynn and know those sun breaks are necessary. Last thing you need is to head into a corner with the sun straight in your eyes. It's all down to the alignment of the track, flat country and no buildings to block the sun when it's setting. They were necessary 16 years ago and I can't see the sun's changed its habits since then.

That's great to hear. The attitudes we met with at some tracks were worse than disgusting. It's a good job we were speedway fans at heart or we and the station would almost certainly have pulled the plug after the first season. I look for signs that that minority attitude has gone - and hope. Berwick deserve their success. Speedway has to work for its media coverage and it's great to hear that the Bandits are getting their reward. I can't wait to see this match, especially with relatively local opposition - and then the delight of the Scottish derby!

Yes, letting others share the project via Open Source is would be great but I suspect people haven't given up because they couldn't see a profit. It's far more likely they got a message from Go Speed asking 'where's our cut?'

Why can't people do both - go to speedway AND watch it on TV? Is there some rule I've not seen? Who forces us to choose one or the other?

It's a crying shame that the local economy has been in crisis and they're not getting the deserved crowds. I wish I had a track like that near me.

I was about 300 miles away at the time - admittedly a poor excuse for not turning up at a social event, but could anyone let us in on the secret? I know it was a long time ago but when I was involved in televising PL-level speedway in the 80s the choice of tracks to go to was based on several points - the facilities and co-operation offered by the promotion and the lighting being key aspects. I also used to recommend trying to select matches between two teams with tracks of similar size and ones where the away side were in better form than the home. One of the frustrations was that we had a heck of a lot of viewers in Middlesbrough but Cleveland Park's lighting was so dreadful that we could only go there in June or early July. One track got blacklisted by the cameramen though. The deal was that the tracks would provide the camera platforms. We got to one and the first bend cameraman threw a fit when he was presented with the sight of two oil barrels and a piece of plywood.... At another track the stadium management tried to get us to pay them as well as the speedway promotion for access. Obviously Sky are operating at a much more professional level than we did but I would expect knowing they'll be made welcome and helped in every way also encourages them to return. Berwick's a lovely place to visit - wish I could get back there. Used to enjoy the presenter too....

They've decided to ignore June and focus on the key 'summer' months of April and September, all for the good of speedway.

Just spoken to Steve R for the first time in ages. Seems he'd describe his presence at Scunny as being "a cynical observer". Wonder how many others who still care deeply about the Rockets (despite that flippancy) will feel able to return now the poison's gone from the place?
