Exotic and unusual speedway nationalities
Bavarian replied to Bavarian's topic in International World of Speedway
In the late 1970s there was a speedway rider from Luxembourg, Raoul Schiltz. Schiltz was mainly a grass tracker, but did also ride in some speedway meetings here on the Continent. To the best of my knowledge he was the only speedway rider the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg ever had. -
Number 16 on the start list for the SGP 4 at Malilla is a girl, but they wrote her name wrong. The correct name is Stepanka Nyklova, and she come from Liberec in the Czech Republic.

In the summer of 1953 Ronnie Moore for the last time rode for Australia in a test match against England at Wembley on August 13, 1953 http://www.internationalspeedway.co.uk/engvaus2.htm In the autumn of 1953 (after the world final) Ronnie rode for New Zealand in their first official test series in England. The first test was at Wimbledon on September 14, 1953. http://www.internationalspeedway.co.uk/engvnz.htm

Exotic and unusual speedway nationalities
Bavarian posted a topic in International World of Speedway
Every now and then there are riders with unusual or exotic speedway backgrounds. One of them is MARIO HÄUSL, who is half German and half Seychellois. The seventeen-year old rides as a junior in the Polish League team of the German speedway club Landshut Devils. Mario, "The Pride of the Seychelles" is pictured here in Landshut racing gear, together with his mum. The Seychellois people ar a unique blend of Créole, Indian, Chinese, French and British Bloods. https://www.nation.sc/articles/18870/speedway-talent-mario-husl-signs-with-ac-landshut- -
At the age of 40, Grigory Laguta still rides speedway in Russia. He even is the current national champion and captain of the Vladivostok team in the Russian Speedway League. A week ago at Oktyabrsky, Grigory Laguta won the Rinat Mardanshin Memorial. On Thursday though he crashed in a league meeting at Balakovo and suffered a concussion. In his heyday he was certainly one of the best riders in the world, was European champion, but sadly never rode in the SGP series except for a couple of wild card appearances in Latvia.

Gp world Championship qualifying rounds
Bavarian replied to racers and royals's topic in International World of Speedway
Usually the top four from each round qualify. But just in case, which of these four rounds has only three qualified riders if the Czechs need a wild card for the SGP challenge at Pardubice? -
There is not much coming through the system, though, and there is an alarming lack of young riders even down in the 85cc youth division. Two many foreign stars, mostly Polish riders, employed by the Swedish clubs.

The event was limited to a maximum of 999 spectators in the stadium, which was not reached by far.

2024 FIM Long Track

Tero Aarnio had a bad crash in the final of a long-track meeting at Plattling on Sunday, but was released from hospital and says he will ride at Herxhein on Thursday. -
Exactly, that was Trevor Redmond. When his attempt to establish speedway in the Caribean did not work out as planed, he changed direction and went to Rhodesia, where he joined up with Scotsman Alex Hughson and quite successfully promoted speedway in Rhodesia/Southern Africa for a few years in the early 1970s. I'm not aware of any other attempt to take speedway to the Caribean, neither before nor after Redmond's venture.

By the way, does anyone of You guys know who tried to introduce speedway & stock car racing track to Jamaica in the late 1960s? It didn't really work out, as only some stock car racing ever took place there, but no motorcycle speedway. And, no, for once it wasn't Hoskins, but an other well known speedway promoter in Britain, in fact even a New Zealander by birth, too, just like Hoskins. Any guesses, who it was?

That photograph with JSH looking up to that man Wilfred McIntosh standing tall over his speedway bike is well known. It can be found in Ron Hoare's book "Speedway Panorama" (page 144). But it was only a gag, a hoax, just one of Hoskins' many publictity stunts, and McIntosh never seriously considdered a career as a speedway rider. From his physical stature alone, this giant of a man he was totally unsuited to become a speedway rider. I don't know if he ever rode in an official race at all, possible not even in a second half heat race. He was only posing for this publicity picture with Hoskins and Chitty, I guess.
