  1. An expected poor display from Redcar who supplied just one heat winner, and that was not until heat 14 courtesy of Anderson. R/r for Skidmore produced 5 points, that was probably a bonus for the visitors. Even Simon Nielsen couldn't produce his Brough form, and looked very ordinary. Newcastle had a points fest with Lambert getting the easiest maximum you could wish to see. Strangely, that was Newcastle's first of the season. Victor Palovaara was steady and gained his first home win. Top for excitement was Lewis Rose, with a last bend pass of tac ride man Bellego being the highlight of the meeting. Lindgren would have remained unbeaten, but had one retirement. Kus had a couple of wins, and guest Robson enjoyed himself with a paid 10.Only was to miss out was Danny Phillips, although he got a big cheer when following home Palovaara for a 5-1 in heat 8.
  2. I know we are strong in the last three heats, but three 5-1s away from home takes some doing. Something in the tea at the interval, or George with the hair drier, whatever, it worked.
  3. Has been raining, but now seems to be brightening up a bit. Fingers crossed.
  4. I assume teams will line up as follows. Newcastle 1. Robert Lambert 2. R/R for Tero Aarnio 3. Matej Kus 4 .Ludvig Lindgren 5 .Steve Worrall 6. Lewis Rose 7. Danny Phillips Workington 1. Ricky Wells 2. Rasmus Jensen 3, Kenneth Hansen 4. Mason Campton 5. Claus Vissing 6.Adam Roynon 7. Matt Williamson In what should be a close meeting, Newcastle need to win by 9 points to secure the aggregate win. If Workington's heat leaders are on song it will be tight. Newcastle will be using r/r again for Arnio, and need decent points from it. Lewis Rose is my key man. I'm sure I speak for all Newcastle supporters in wishing Kenni Larsen a full recovery from this terrible incident.
  5. Redcar has all week to prepare a track, at Newcastle we have one day and still manage to prepare an excellent racing strip.
  6. Another excellent display from Danny Phillips, who had the beating of Redcar's Lee Payne three times. Led Skidmore for most of heat 12, and had one blistering (fair) start in the same race pulled back.
  7. It's very important to have a decent 3.00 rider next season. Having had a lot of success in recent years, I await with interest to see who George comes up with.
  8. Anyone interested in the 1982 World Final can make me an offer at kkkcdyer@aol.com Keith
  9. If you want the times Dave, here they are. 1. 75.2 2. 79.9 3. 73.0 4. 80.8 5. 74.1 6. 80.2
  10. Hi Dave I have a filled in programme for this meeting, not by me unfortunately. The final score was Teesside 40 Newcastle 38 (5-1 in the last heat). In heat 11 the result is shown as Tom Owen Pete Smith Nig Close Robert Maxfield. Close scored a total of 2, and Maxfield 0. Hope this clarifies.
  11. Cook is allowed to get a few tonight as he is in my fantasy team. I expect Newcastle to take the points. Ever the optimist .
  12. Never sure where the promotion gets its forecast from, but as usual, as soon as its called off, the weather brightens. BBC forecast just about spot on, as was Elliot Hunt. Thought they could have hung on a bit longer, especially as this third call off must be crippling financially, would have left another 5 hours for track preparation.
  13. Heavy rain forecast through the night and tomorrow morning. Should then brighten up and apart from a couple of showers should be dry for the rest of the day. Hope a decision is not made too early in the day to call it off.
  14. I believe he is living on the south coast, and was/is a swimming instructor.
  15. As a taster for the evening's meeting, why not catch some cycle speedway, Racing commences at 2.00pm at Cramlington Sports Centre. Northumbria Vikings face a tough task as they face a Stockport side who have been unbeaten for two years. Whatever the result, you will see plenty of close and exciting racing. Free entry and parking, you can't go wrong. If you enjoy it, why not have a go? See a club official, age is not a drawback, our members range from pre-teens to over 60s.
  16. Just picked up a 2001 Glasgow programme. With it was a facsimile of an Ashfield v Hanley programme of 31 July 1951. There was a piece in the supporters club column :- "Gramophone records of the first Speedway International held at White City this season are on sale, price 11/-. The commentary was made by Johnny Kelly, and gives a heat to heat description of the races". I assume these would be 78rpm records and easily breakable. Has any seen any of these kind of records, or indeed has one. They seem expensive for the day, as the most expensive entrance charge was 3/- for the enclosure (4/1 for reserved seats).
  17. Paul Fry Ray Day Ed "Crusty" Pye Wilf Jay Alan Jay Matej Kus Paul Lee Terry Day Marvin Cox David Nix
  18. I'll try again then. As expected Christian Henry completes the Newcastle septet. Confirmed on website.
  19. Simon Nielsen confirmed as Newcastle's sixth rider on their official website.
  20. If Christian Henry's average is 6.61, that's too high as it leaves just 2.93 left. If we are after a decent no.7, a 5ish rider is needed. Perhaps an EU on 5.
  21. No surprise to see Ludde and Anton back. Two riders who want to ride for Newcastle. I'm sure Anton will do a solid job for the Diamonds, and as for Mr Lindgren, if the enigma can ride consistently all year, he should end up top of our averages. If.
