I lived in Colchester for 20 years coming back a couple of years ago. This is a new one to me ( and Norbold ), could anyone who knows Terry Stone or knows where the track was, please let us know.

Happy memories of Anders in his only season with Newcastle in 1970. this was Newcastle's last breath before 1975, Mike Parker had left, and Ole Olsen also. Ian Hoskins gave it his best, but even with George Hunter, the magic had gone, the license was going down the road to Reading. Can anyone confirm my albeit shaky memory? I'm sure Anders was close to, if not getting an 11.00 point average.

That's our mate Dantodan who runs this excellant site. Feel free to have a glance.

High standard equalled if not surpassed. For us older Diamonds fans the article on Joe Owen will bring back memories and tears. Had not heard about him for ages, pleased to hear his life is going so well.

As well as football I can recall several times over the years, riders challenging their local cycle speedway team, and having quite some success.

Old Meadowbank was the best track Edinburgh has had. What an appalling decision it was to hold the 1966(?) Commonwealth games there. What did happen to the stadium after that?

Talking of Mr Mogridge, he put a 15+1 from six rides last night at Le Stade Brough. Match winning performance.

SORRY forgot David Bargh, Stape will have to go!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Cradley Heath's Ivor Brown. Hated by the opposition because he was so good and those bloody white leathers were still normally white at the end of the night. And of course the king Ivan Mauger.

Full circle, back to Newcastle after 1960. Brian Craven Brian Brett Ivan Mauger Ole Olsen Anders Michanek George Hunter Tom Owen Joe Owen Rod Hunter Robbie Blackadder Nicki Pederson Bjarne Pedersen Kenneth Bjerre and one of my favourites to make 14 :- Graham Stapleton.

Just as well he is not riding today, as stupid regulations are still about I saw Michael at Newcastle when he first started with Boston. He was at reserve and finished pointless. So I thought what's the fuss about? English world champion, not many times that happens, take a bow. Fall foul of the system and you are done. By shooting himself in the foot he denied himself and us a super career. Still, all in the past now. I'm pleased he is still involve in the sport. No matter what happens, we can't kick it ,can we?

Halifax was a must trip for us Diamonds fans in the sixties being fairly close and racing on a Saturday. I still think that apart from Belle Vue, racing at the Shay was the best. One complaint - no bar, but a table selling bottles. Being from Newcastle, one night we decided to try a bottle of brown ale. Not quite the same thing! This was the most horrible drink I have ever tasted. We did finish it though, gritted teeth and pinched nose

Sad to see so many riders you saw when young not now with us. Condolences to the Maidment family.
-
Kym Mauger, had everything going for him but couldn't ride at all. Why is it so many siblings fail?
-
Have a word with Barry Wallace, if anyone knows its him. Means nothing to me though.

This brings up what would happen if a junior was injured and the ambulance/doctor was involved for a lengthy time. And don't the riders want to race when the track is ( allegedly ) at its best. I for one would like the two minute warning immediately after the previous race. Let's have the meeting run as quickly as possible, parents would me more likely to bring their children to a meeting that ends at 9 rather than 10.

nononononononononononononononononononononononononononononononon. Tac subs have never been a problem, do you know of anyone who has complained about them in the past? The new introductions are just our masters trying to be trendy. If 92% of concerned and sensible supporters are against it surely this message must get back to them

Info Needed Re :GIL GOLDFINCH Late 50"S-Early 60"S
jackofdiamonds replied to a topic in Years Gone By
Have great memories of Gil at Newcastle. Super smooth and instrumental in getting Mike Watkin, a novice at the time to improve rapidly due to his unselfish team riding. -
Would you with a name like that? Has to be the best.

Don't think it would work, tried once found lacking. You are a PL promoter, you make ends meet. Enough people come through the gate. Fans are happy seeing 15 or 16 different teams each season. Suddenly you have to spend money find a GP rider, pay expenses left right and centre and in all likehood have the same fans turning up. The product is good, it works, the EL will survive, just, but a joint league, no.

BSI reinvent the Wheel
jackofdiamonds replied to GREDON's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Sorry to be one who casts doubt on the previous posters. Should the GP go to 20 heats I for one would welcome it. Five races, one winner, 9 or 10 meetings, we would see the true champion Mr consistency rules. But would Sky go along? -
