YES! It does become a bit of an obsession but its fun doing it most of the time at long as it doesn't get out of control.

I'm missing a Star Final (1931) from my collection too but I do have all the Internationals.........What international are you missing? I have a few spare from the '30's?
-
The three pre-war and the 61 fetch good prices these days the '36 went for over 300 quid recently.
-
That means not the Star Finals also? Great Collection!
-
But you don't go to Speedway!!!! Can we stop this somehow before yet another thread is destroyed please!
-
Most of my memorabilia is programmes, mainly British Internationals dating back to 1928, love the pre-war one's. If anyone is interested you can see most of my collection (although this site has not been updated for several years) here. http://www.internationalspeedway.co.uk/unitedkingdom.htm Just click through them, I have all these programmes in my collection.

Bonny Good, never heard of him, may have emigrated to Canada but he most definitely did not compete at Speedway in the early '50's as there wasn't any Speedway or tracks in the Toronto area. Speedway didn't come back until 1959 in Dundas, again far from Toronto area. There have never been tracks in the Toronto area since the old Ulster stadium of the 1930's......Ulster Stadium closed in 1943 for development.

Steve Bole, who had a brilliant one season with Eastbourne in their SAL days, then surprisingly quit racing at the end of 1954. Guess who wrote that? I guess he only had one season in Eastbourne then quit at the end of 1954......nothing else to know I presume.

OK so I have heard from the Expert on Canadian Pre-War Speedway riders and this one got to him too....Here are the two replies I have had from him. "Jim Ferguson was a rider who rode speedway long track and road racing around the time of Chitty and Pepper in Canada. Did not know he was in England racing." "Still, it was little surprise in 1931 when speedway or short track racing was introduced to Canada that Eric was on the quarter-mile track at the old Ulster Stadium in east Toronto, where he shared the honours with Jim Ferguson. Taken from Eric Chitty page on the Canadian hall of fame. I have a photo of Mr Ferguson somewhere in my files." So, not much at all known about this rider, I will post the photo if my friend finds it!
-
Unlikely there could be two, so I would say its a good possibility.......I'll keep checking!
-
J. Fergusson......that's a new one for me.....I'll do some checking. Not so new.....Know nothing about him unfortunately except the "J" was Jimmy and yes he was Canadian......I have asked around to see if anyone else knows anything.
-
Glad you found that 'cos I checked my programme and didn't see his name.
-
They were closed for 1962.....had to be 1961 or 1963
-
How many times are we going to do this one? I have a massive feeling of "We've been here before many times"? In fact the subject beneath this one says it all!
-
My first race.....New Cross August 19th, 1959......Ronnie Moore, Peter Craven, George White, Cyril Brine.........Do I remember it? NO! But my childhood hero was in it.....Peter Craven.
-
I'm getting used to the new site but in all honesty the old one was much easier......this "flashy" stuff just does not work for me, I much prefer "just the facts" and easy to find them.
-
Briggo didn't join until later in the year.......but Billy Bales was riding for Norwich and I'm sure he is alive.
-
From my first meeting at New Cross in 1959, I think we have two survivors.....Knutsson and Bob Andrews.

ACU STATEMENT: INVASION OF UKRAINE TUESDAY, MARCH 8, 2022 In support of a decision made by the FIM Board of Directors relating to the situation in Ukraine, and as the governing body of motorcycle sport in Great Britain, the ACU Ltd Board of Directors has condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine and as such have imposed the following sanctions with immediate effect. ‘To suspend / withdraw the functions of any individual from the Motorcycle Federation of Russia (MFR) and the Belarusian Federation of Motorcycle Sport (BFMS) across all disciplines of motorcycle sport in any ACU permitted event or activity and in any capacity, ie. as a competitor, an official, a Team principal or a member of a Team. This sanction also includes any rider / official who currently resides in the UK as a Russian or Belarusian national and is currently in possession of a valid ACU licence’. The suspension / withdrawal is with immediate effect and in place until otherwise notified. Roy Humphrey, the ACU Ltd Chairman said, ‘We have all seen on a daily basis what has and is currently happening in Ukraine and as such we sympathise with all those suffering as a result of the invasion from Russia. I know this will impact on some, who as Russian nationals have resided in the UK for a period of time and participate in the sport under the auspices of the ACU, and that is a sad circumstance of events. However, we stand in support of the FIM and the FIME’s position on the current circumstances in the Ukraine which was disseminated to the Federations on Saturday. Those affected by this decision will say it is not their fault, to which I sympathise, but neither is it ours and as such we stand by the decision and guidance issued by the World Governing Body’.

The FIM Board of Directors unanimously recommends to all Affiliated Members and Continental Unions to apply these measures at the national and continental levels. The FIM President, Jorge Viegas added: “We stand in sympathy and solidarity with all those suffering, as a result of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, and remain in close contact with our affiliate member in Ukraine (FMU). I would like to thank the FIM Board of Directors members in deciding these measures in the interests of sport and peace. The FIM, together with its promoters and organisers, already acted on this matter and cancelled the FIM competitions scheduled in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The decisions announced today are in line with the recommendations and statements made by the International Olympic Committee, adapted to suit our sport. The FIM family is watching the developments in Ukraine with great sadness and hope for a prompt and peaceful resolution.”
