  1. FIM used to present medals at all their events, not sure if they still so but as they have run offs for their events I assume they do! I am still pretty sure the 1968 and the 1969 Pairs are NOT recognised as World Finals. But as I said before, I would like to be proven wrong. I have BOTH programmes and they mention World Championship nowhere!
  2. You can see that I had mentioned Mauger on the previous page and my discussions about this. His medal though never said "World Championship" according to the man himself!
  3. I give up!!!! You win John......Like talking to a brick wall.....if you could only read what I stated would help immensely!
  4. Everything is more reliable than Wikipedia......Source for the recognition of 1968 and 1969......FIM!!!! What more do you want? how did 'Speedway Star' recognise these pairs championships? Because they wanted too!!!! Any way to get story whether true or not!
  5. Not really, since I do not accept Wikipedia as fact and nor should anyone even if it agrees with what you think. Nothing like doing your own research and getting the real facts! Someone can make 1968 and 69 Pairs Finals as World Finals in seconds........
  6. Had a long discussion once with Ivan Mauger while I was driving him to Owego, NY (12 hour round trip). He said to me quite emphatically that it was a "World Final" because he got an FIM medal for it, even though it did not say "World Champion. He did concede however that he also got FIM medals from other events. We never actually agreed!! LOL I have been looking around and I cannot find anywhere that, at least 1969 is considered a World Final.
  7. Not sure that is true.....would like to proven wrong though? There was talk once of doing this and also the 1968 Pairs in Kempten but I wasn't aware it had come to fruition.
  8. FFS John, please stop this nonsense.....you know this is not true and has been proven so. Please stop the usual nonsense of trying to "Never let the facts get in the way of a story".
  9. You have them......Speedway Champions site is accurate......
  10. "Make your own choice" what do you mean by that? It has been researched and proven from programmes and "Paris Match" magazine? What else do you need?
  11. You can look at the programme cover on the Speedway Championships website, all the riders are listed on that cover. Also, how we know we are correct in the finishing three they are listed in this 1934 programme. 1931 Lamont, Tauser, Bellissent 1932 Wilkinson, Bellissent, Killmeyer 1933 Meynier, Wilkinson, Lamont.
  12. Speedway Champions as far as I'm concerned is correct, we had many discussions between us several years ago and we think we have it right. I have the programme from 1934 and it is the FOURTH world championship held there.
  13. Thanks norbold....time play's tricks!
  14. Remember both, at least read about the '63 but I don't think the West Ham one was in '65 think it was '67? Anyone? And yes, I was there in '65 and '67!
  15. Yes Bob....I was there as part of "Team Legault".....and another friend who was staying with me from Sheffield was sending the results through to Speedway Updates but he got so excited with Kyle's win he forget to send final result through for some time kinda puzzling the Sheffield fans as to what had happened. Think you are right, it was 2006......now a long time ago!!!
  16. Yes....but Flat Track is also waning in Canada and the US......
  17. Welland continues to have Motorcycle Racing......Paris now gone!
  18. You are correct, there is no more Speedway in Canada.......however there are tracks in New York State.
  19. He is not the only American to win....Lenny McBride and George Kalamaroff are also American
  20. Yes he won the Canadian Championship at the long gone Ulster Stadium in Toronto in 1934. He was unbeaten even with a bad hand!!
  21. In a word NO.....at least I have never seen them there!!
  22. Yes Bob, I do go to the "open" at Owego once in a while but the 12 hour round trip is not exciting! There are three tracks now in New York state, Owego, Greene and Cuddebackville......Owego being the closest!!! As "Chunky" states speedwaybikes.com is your best bet for schedules.

    Mexico

There was it seems, a huge turnout for this meeting. The riders were paid half in dollars and half in pesos....
