What Is Going On At Leicester ?
lionheart replied to djp45's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
TBH I cannot see Eric Boocock staying very long. He calls a spade a bl**ding shovel, and I think the sparks will fly with DH. I hope that I am wrong, because Leicester need stability, something which has been lacking since the track opened. -
I remember in one of the matches at Blackbird Road (Not too sure if in was 1949 or 1950) when Peddlar (He of the hair, and the glasses) came a right cropper off turn 2 and ended up with his head stuck in the fence ! That takes me back far more years than I care to remember, but it does remind me of what a great track we lost when Blackbird Road closed

Don't forget that Man United are top of the league (For football related arrests )
-
I think if the Potters could have stayed on their bikes they may have won this one
-
Well done to the Potters, but they made hard work of it at times

I belive Crumpie was born in Bristol. So ?

Mildenhall - Who Decides Who The New Promoter Is?
lionheart replied to FenTiger666's topic in National League Speedway
I think it's a very sad situation for the Tigers. I recall watching the Tigers at Ellesmere Port when they won the league (Perhaps someone can tell me when this was, and remind me how old I am ) They had a great team, and it's sad to see how far they have fallen (Like so many speedway teams). I hope that the Tigers can rise again -
One of the important announcements may be, which league Peterborough race in

Stoke Sign Bager And Vissing Leaves
lionheart replied to Rob 3's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I find it hard to believe that Vissing has gone back to the EL, and I don't think for one minute that it will improve Peterboroughs chances of a play-off spot. -
Colin Merediths Track Dryer
lionheart replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It HAD to be moved to Poland so that Gollob could win it. No chance in Germany -
For me, this had all the hallmarks of the "Penhall final"

Cardiff Opportunity For Tom Brown?
lionheart replied to BelteshazzarBee's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I keep asking the question "Whatever happened to Ian Hindle". I remember one meeting at Hyde Road when Ian posted the fastest time of the night from the reserves race in heat 2.! This was in the days of Chris Morton, and Peter Collins so it was no mean feat.I recall that his equipment looked immaculate whenever I watched him. He sparkled for a couple of meetings and then fizzled out. I wonder why ? -
World Cup Format - Not Team Racing?
lionheart replied to Ashie's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I am all for a WTC where the riders ride in pairs, AND the scoring is 4,3,2,0. Bring it on -
Good to see a non-Dane win the Danish GP when half the field seemed to be Danes. Thought Crumpie rode very well, coming from behind more than once, which was not easy in this class of field. Very, very glad that the winner was NOT Pederson N. Sorry that Mr Clean did not do better

I remember his years at Leicester, and I imagine that Blackbird Road would have been one of his favourite tracks. I think the main problem was that the track was so fair that it gave home riders very little home advantage. Great days though and was very upset when he failed to take the World Title. Thanks for the good times Dave.

Dont know if it is the right one, but there was a MartIn (Notice the I not Y.) J. Piddock registered in ASHFORD Kent in the final quarter of 1947 and the mothers maiden name was RICH.

Well, although I was never lucky enough to go there, my immediate guess was Sun Street, Hanley.

Is it by any chance Ivor Brown ?

Catches on quick for an 11 year old

Dont worry Speedyguy I have already labelled myself as the Victor Meldrew of this forum
-
Many thanks for all that Speedyguy. Like you I was very lucky to start my speedway visits whilst there were a few leg trailers riding. I think that the true art of speedway started dying when they changed from cinders to shale. A lot cleaner to view but so boring, compared to when the riders used to fight to get on the boards rather than the white line. HAPPY DAYS.

Hope Steady takes some motors with BIG hearts. He will need them on the tracks down under. I dont think there are many postage stamp size tracks in OZ. A big country in every sense of the word.

"Hurriken" McKinley was always immaculate in his black leathers. Immaculate because he was always at the front, with no one slinging mud on him
