  1. Why..? If you want to "ignore" the fiasco that's been the end of this year's NL campaign you clearly have no interest in or commitment to this level of Speedway. Something which CAN'T be said of the likes of BobC. Lucifer Sam and myself and others who've posted our dispair at what's happened on here...
  2. Agreed - but of course that WASN'T the battle for the league was it..? It was a battle in which the team which came third are now able to claim the championship today with a one off home match against a Newport side completely stripped of its riding resources - not least because of how late in the year this final is happening... The season WOULD have gone done as a classic if that three way battle was for the title but now it will be remembered as an utter farce. Now is there anyone, anyone at all (you for example, Proud Potter!!) who still wants to argue in favour of the play-off 'system' (sic) in the NL...?
  3. "Whoever"..?? Define "whoever"..? Surely you're not suggesting there's any doubt who's going to win today. Though it might yet be that 'team' beginning with 'W'... The weather!!!! Talking about definitions, try looking up this one, "Pyrrhic victory"... Because I fear for a stand-alone club like the Hitmen, to have seen what's happened to the NL in the past couple of months may well (rain permitting) mean they've won the League & Cup Double in 2010 but the chances of there being either competition to defend (outside of a three team tournament!) in 2011 are ATM, looking extremely slim...
  4. Come off it! ONLY a Buxton fan could fail to understand why everyone else who cares about the NL has every reason to be "moaning" about the appalling - almost certainly terminal to the future of the third tier as a meaninful competition in the immediate future - circumstances of the last month...
  5. Well once they'd set a date as late as this last Friday for the first leg and with the NLRC (disgracefully...) arranged for the Saturday in-between and of course the 'second leg' today, here really WASN'T any rain-off date they could have...
  6. Can't see how anyone COULD argue that the second leg must go to 12 heats to count. The first leg didn't even get to one heat and apparently that DOES count!!!
  7. Well THAT as a concept makes no sense. If it's rained off then the ONLY conclusion - based entirely on what you've argued - is that there is NO League champion for 2010. Which would be the entire fault, frankly, of all four clubs which made the play offs and knew they were in them from 12 September but made little to no effort to get the semis started as a process until over a whole month later... This was utterly avoidable and yet this is where we are now... IF the 'second leg' (sic) goes ahead, it'll result in a title win for Buxton which I'd say can be said to be deserved based on their two-legged win over Dudley who finished top of the division. By the time these play offs came Newport had no sort of a side so really were a spent force. Someone remind me again why the P/Os in the NL are a good idea..?!
  8. Blimey that MUST be an all time record. Hope all who had crashes are okay.
  9. Been asking for some results and scorers lately and as ever getting a superb response from Forumites! Have I this time though, bitten off more than I can chew!? What I'm after are the result and scorers details from a second half junior challenge between the Junior Hammers and a side branded Crayford Select at Arena Essex on 27th. April 2001. I was there for what was I'nm sure the last to date appearance on track by a side branded Crayford but my kids pestered me to leave after three of the scheduled eight heats. 'Twas 11-7 to the Hammers at that point. Hammers side was Gareth Roberts, Tommy Cooper, Matt Etherington and Simon Taylor Crayford Select was later to be Sittingbourne Crusaders, Andre Cross and Carl Downs; Kentish grasstrack legend, the late, great Vince Kinchin; and Jon Stevens (yes, folks that's as in "ex-Wimbledon Dons' Jon Stevens"!) Match details in the form of result and scorers would leave me mightily impressed and very grateful!!
  10. Many thanks...: you're the real Star!! BTW, I posted this before but somehow it disappeared... Maybe it was moved to the 'Testimonials' section....
  11. Hmm, wot: sharing it two ways or three...? : for as someone has pointed out 'twas Dudley who finished top of the league!!!
  12. Sorry another request from ever-helpful Forum-ites for the scorers in a match of yesteryear! 23 April 1999 Premier National Trophy saw Arena Essex beat Exeter 55-35 - does anyone please have the two teams' scorers..?
  13. Andrew Swales related to any of the other several Speedway-rider Swales-es...?
  14. Arnie - you are an absolute diamond!! Many thanx!! BTW, sorry about not meeting up later the other night at drizzly Arena - I met up with some pals formerly of the Plough Lane posse and headed off for the back straight. You know how hard I find it to resist some posse!!!
  15. Can anyone help out with the details of the final heat of this YDL match (followed main Panthers vs. Sheffield PL match) on May 25 1998..? Score after five heats was 17-13 to home side but haven't got details of final heat... Also first names or two in the Sheffield side would be appreciated: A. Swales and C. Moorcroft.. Thanx in anticipation.
  16. Good to point this out. But I know for a fact that Roger Cearns would not consider opening his new track in the third tier. It would be PL for the Kent side. If the Central Park operation turned out to really invigorate interest in the town I think it possible that Iwade might consider re-entering the NL (this is the kind of words used in the prog. at their recent 40th. anniversary meeting) but one does wonder what the Speedway authorities and fellow Clubs would think about that. Too many times crying wolf I fear...
  17. Well indeed, coz one assumes that people "banned" won't feel able to show up without this.. How sad (and I've seen it so much since my active involvement in the sport began in 2002) that people fall out and things like bans and threats are issued . I've never known any enterprise quite like Speedway for this. One day when the sport's dead and buried, the historians shall look back and conclude it was the failure of those who did care about the sport to get on with each other for long enough and to pull in one positive direction which led to its demise.. Good luck to all at Weymouth. Maybe it's time now to ask the rhetorical question once posed by Nick Lowe: (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding...
  18. Hmm, leave me out of it...: I wouldn't even pay 50 pence for it!!
  19. Fixtures from BSPA site this morning (21/10): 29-10-10 Newport v Buxton NL P/O Final - 30-10-10 Rye House - National League Riders Championship IND - 31-10-10 Newcastle v Edinburgh PLKOC Final Hmm, notice what's missing..? No mention of the Buxton (second) leg of the P/O Final..!!
  20. Strictly speaking, first seasons in the league for both these riders though...
  21. My oh my, cutting things awfully fine.... Can it really be true that the deadline for the play offs was 12 September!!!
  22. I really wish I could share this sentiment but I'm afraid I'd have to respectfully suggest that this is all but an impossible notion... Yes the NL, I pray, shall be with us but it's a certainity to be with less teams than we started with in 2010. The question is: how many less...
  23. Hmm, well apparently the word coming out from RH was that the Fours/NLRC would happen on Sunday 31st. - this would clash with the Play Off Final at Buxton again according to THEIR website.. That would mean no Buxton in the 4s (er, making it the '3's!!) and no riders from two of the three top sides in the division in the NLRC!! Inspired!! As you say, the 'solution' is have it on the Saturday but we've all long given up on there being sensible solutions... After all, there was NOTHING at all stopping the 4s/NLRC being last Saturday but it still didn't happen...!!
  24. Well it would seem that unless the Play Off and KOC Finals are run as a D/H then there's no chance of the 4s or a meaningful NLRC being staged.. As you say a shambles...
