Had the pleasure of seeing the Italy touring side (first from that country I believe - indeed has there been another..? ) whiuch came over to ride against some NL (2nd. division) sides in early 1980. Match I saw was at Canterbury; the one scheduled for Crayford later same week fell foul of the dodgy April weather even back then! The one to seven for Italy at Kingsmead was: Octavio Nano; Mario Andrioto; Francesco Biginato; Gianni Famari; Mauro Ferraccioll; Fausto Birbini; and Pier Mario Zanin, Can anyone remember if there was a number 8 to this squad? I think there was and that he appeared in a second half race at Canterbury (and possibly in the team at other matches that tour..) - his name would be gratefully received!!

Hmm, judging by the indiv scores and resultant match score, the decision to draft in Hughes to strenghen up was a rather ill-judged move... -

Less than a week now to the meeting at Arena Essex (Lakeside). Young Hammers will apparently include Lubos Tomicek, Shane Hazelden, Ben Morley and two riders I have to say I've not heard of previously, both French lads: Xavier Muratet & David Bellego. A shame Marc misses out through injury and ditto Jerran... What's the expected USA line-up..? This meeting is followed by the London Riders Champs - see http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=58072&pid=1807008&st=0entry1807008 for that thread. -
King's Lynn V Newport (koc S/f)

Blimey, that's an impressive result from the Young Stars! Must be a pretty good chance now they can make the Final. I wonder when they'd fit in the NA leg of that Final (one has to assume vs. Buxton..) Would have - I'm guessing - to be next Friday, the 15th.?? -

So is there no chance at all then of the suggested meeting at Lydd - see following link http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=56826 With the 17th. now free I wondered if this was in any way back on as a possibility..? -
Was it that difficult..? Surely R/R for Kyle was what SHOULD have happened here. It was after all a play off semi, so sticking to the rules should really have been something of a priority... Certainly hope both James and Jay are okay - Jay's really not had a good 2010.. Can imagine that Aaron was one very happy Asbo when he won heat two... Well done on the six points mate...

'Tis indeed on for this Wednesday: at very short notice... Just a word (in apology...), because this has - for a reason I don't know, in truth - been arranged at such short notice, no full programme has been possible to be printed for the meeting... As someone who's been heavily involved in the Buccs prog this year and last I regret very much that an issue won't be published for what may (but certainly hopefully WON'T...) be the last home Buccs meeting... All I can say is we did aim for and usually reached a very high standard for progs in this division, winning the Speedway Star NL prog of the year last year and it's been an honour to be involved... So sorry to fans - espcially visting Hornets' supporters - on Wednesday for the lack of a full prog. There shall of course be a race card produced for the meeting. And good luck to Garry and the lads... Still time to finish 2010 with another 'double': this time of NL Championship and NL Fours!!

Wildcats Vikings Cancelled
Parsloes 1928 nearly replied to stressed's topic in National League Speedway
WHY..??!! -
I think people are more than somewhat over-reacting here...1 It has for ever since the concept of leagues have been around, been the case that some matches towards the end of any given season don't count very much... Forget play-offs, how many times has the League championship been decided already and some clubs have say two or three (or even more...) home fixtures left to stage...? Did anyone then say, "no, scrap those matches there's no point in them..!"? Of course they didn't. I accept the extra cut-off date of the play-offs (especially when it gets badly cocked up like it has this year in the NL) adds a further sense that the season is over so why bother, but surely people can see that regardless a league fixture is exactly that whether it's in March, the week before the play-off deadline (and btw, the Young Stars were NEVER in contention for the P/Os in any case! ) or a fortnight after; or indeed even after a play-off final!

Yep. Without a wheel to be turned in said play offs for over a week...!! -
Rye House V Plymouth
Parsloes 1928 nearly replied to WembleyLion's topic in National League Speedway
Which is the fault of those who said there had to be a cut-off date for the NL play offs of 12/9: otherwise this was a vital fixture, the reult in any case of which, has seen the Cobras finish 4th.. Well done to them; a much less well done to the League 'administrators'(sic) -
Transfer Deadline
Parsloes 1928 nearly replied to Parsloes 1928 nearly's topic in National League Speedway
No, the Crusaders were never done out of any points at 19.13, with our 12pm start time we always finished our home meetings by 18.30 at the latest...!!! -

Transfer Deadline
Parsloes 1928 nearly replied to Parsloes 1928 nearly's topic in National League Speedway
Well, I guess that makes sense as Newport are in the play-offs. Am I being dim (again...!) but have the IoW finished their fixtures then..? I assume that would be the only reason Bren would be leaving the Islanders..? I hate to bring up ancient history (but hey, this IS me! ) - but back in 2006 when Mildenhall had finished their CL fixtures (it was a year Sittingbourne didn't enter the league...), the Crusaders were denied permission to use Mark Baseby in their very final Conference Shield fixture at Stoke coz he'd previously ridden for the Fen Tigers but facing them was Ben Hopwood who - wait for it - had spent the season alongside Mark riding in the CL for Mildenhall!! Proof if ever it was needed that completely maverick decisions and treating one club differently from another has bedevilled this division for years.. -
Much talk (and from those 'in the know' at that..! ) on a previous thread that the transfer deadline in the NL had passed... One assumes that was either incorrect or that this deadline doesn't apply to the NT, as I've just read the surprising news of Brendan's move from the IoW to Weymouth... No 28 day rule applying (well this late in the season it would hardly make sense if it did!) either too..? Is it just me who's a little confused..?

Deadline For Nl Fixtures
Parsloes 1928 nearly replied to Parsloes 1928 nearly's topic in National League Speedway
But what does a "facility" mean in any case..? R/R...? Well, yes I'm sure R/R does come under this definition. As would a 'Guest', but isn't it the case that in the NL you can only have a proper 'Guest' for your number one..? Surely the times (actually all of the last three Buccs' matches) that Richie Worrall has appeared isn't formally as a guest... Same as Lewis Kerr stepping in for the injured James Brundle and a similar set up for Rye in the second match on Sunday, borrowing a rider from KL aren't 'guest' arrangements...? Though I'm not actually sure how they are defined..? -

No, I DID read the Press Release...: it doesn't mean though that I can grasp the sheer illogicality of this latest twist!!!! -
There are. Well, there's certainly Lydd (like Iwade in Kent...) as well...

Deadline For Nl Fixtures
Parsloes 1928 nearly replied to Parsloes 1928 nearly's topic in National League Speedway
And that is, of course, true, Rob. Even though I throw my lot in with the Buccs these days, I think it is utterly wrong that the play-off deadline wasn't extended. Ironically that final match is against Plymouth and the right result for the Devils would lift THEM (rather than the Cobras) into 4th. All in all it's a match which would be decisive and the league's been denied it... But note that the first play-off matches won't be until October even though the authorities decided to stick with the 12/9 deadline...!! -

Hmm, I said all along that a 'Grade 1' (I know they're not called this any more! ) would need to come in as part of the 'package' to get Jay back in..: it was clear to me that this would be what Garry would do... Several on here dismissed the 'legality' of this too. I have to say I'm rather baffled by the Richie Worrall situation..: is he eligible or not..? If the latter how come he did ride yesterday..?! -

Hmm, about as hard as it must be for you (and all the others who were so adamant it wouldn't happen... ) to eat humble pie seeing that Jay HAS returned to ride for the Buccs! Or was his appearance in yesterday's double header a mirage!!! -
American Touring Team 2010 October Tour!
Parsloes 1928 nearly replied to SteveEvans's topic in National League Speedway
Don't wish to be branded a pessimist or a 'wet blanket' but I note that Lakeside make no mention yet of the Oct 15th. visit of the USA team on either the news or more importantly the fixtures pages on their web-site nor I believe in the fixtures in their programme!! Only some of us have vivid memories of the 'London Riders Championship' (sic) which never did happen at Arena...: and THAT after a big publicity splurge!! I do hope that this meeting at Lakeside (the USA one) is going ahead but a little confirmation from that club might not go amiss...
