  2. So was Captain for about 9 or 10 years then as he stopped riding round about 85 didn't he?
  3. Duncrusadin when exactly did Barney take over and for how long was he Captain?
  4. I think back then the tours of different tracks were more of an adventure sleeping in vans/cars, hotels what were they and going to the local swimming pool for a shower each day Those were the days.
  5. Derrrrrrr never thought of that will nip out and see him this afternoon
  6. Tinks out of pure interest how did you get into speedway without your parents being interested? I always thought that in most cases it was parent drags child along and hey presto another fan well that's wht happened to me Rico I did chuckle at your replies, don't think I could of worded it any better myself
  7. Think I spotted a shim or two though
  8. Oddly enough they all had that look in the 70's
  9. Spooky that one Kev not seen a "Poynters" coach for years and bugga me if there wasn't one at Cherry Tree Avenue in Dover this morning on the way to taking the kids to school
  10. He was a nice fella always smiling thats what I liked about Zenon Plech
  11. Scunny Stag you gave your job up for British Speedway!! in my book that makes you a number one fan I can sympathise with your track closure as we lost our track in 1987. Good luck for the future xx Out of interest how much money did you raise back then?
  12. Great minds think alike there Kev, When Barney looks in maybe he could let us know how many years it was. Did he take over from Ross Gilbertson? OMG was driving to K&C A&E on Sunday morning and saw Russ Osbourne en route!! Also Kev do you remember Mrs Poynter (ran the coach co for our tour buses) she phoned Dad the other night.
  13. If anyone was sober enough the day after to remember the night before
  14. She is protesting too much innocence here Give her a shovel dig a bit deeper
  15. Cardiff is quite popular in Bravo....... they showed one night before an event at the Millennium Stadium in June a load of revellers hmmmmm
  16. Hey JB boast away m8, lovely to read your memories Excellent thread with some lovely memories yet sad ones as well but it's all part of life and all part of growing up. (JB does this make you Peter Pan and me Wendy as I never want to grow up and forget my memories )
  17. I was 3 years old when the accident happend, yet some of my family remember it like it was yesterday. My mum has commented in the past at how good looking Martyn was (now you now where I get it from although she wasn't into butt watching ) Had a little look through the links and found this Nothing like I remember as that was what it looked like after the speedway had been oosted and the dog racing took over the stand was covered in with standing room at the bottom of it. I went there once with me ol' mucker Knocker and a few of the others can't really remember much about it as I don't think I wanted to be there. Thanks for the links it's nice to take a trip down memory lane every now and then just that I like to take that trip more often than others. The Hackney pictures of Waterden Road (HERE) exactly how I remember it the memories are flooding back now !!! Just need one of Rye House now. Thank you once again xxxxx
  18. Oh yes birthday in Barcelona please! Kev H, Tabby......... we is going on tour
  19. Thing is with the crowd that Cardiff attracts (45K+) can't see everyone getting into Poole/Eastbourne/Ipswich/Arena Essex/Oxford or any other stadium for that fact within the UK So if there was another venue there would be some that would like to attend both (like Tabby, Tina & Myself ) and the ones that couldn't get tickets could then go to Cardiff, although Cardiff is a 4hr drive from Dover I love it, if for arguments sake the British Grand Prix was being held at Belle Vue it wouldn't stop me going all that way to watch the GP & if Mark was it then that would ice the cake so to speak He didn't do anything within the GP series this year but everyone still cheered him on and he still smiled at the end of it
  20. I remember my mum telling me how Mrs Moon was stuck under the collapsable fence when a rider when through it at Eastbourne, truly fantastic fan never ever put her off going to speedway, nor giving the Eastbourne (who are they?) fans loads of grief bless her she even upset the Canterbury fans by cheering on Uncle Ted at Wimbledon donned out in her "King Ted" crown that the Rye House fans had made her awwwwww those were the days
  21. If you're not then shame on you lol before the meeting not a good idea as you really don't want to ruin your day out but after the meeting woooohoooooooo go for it
  22. Like the one of me looking lovingly at Markie @ Eastbourne
