Past his peak? I have a lot of good memories from my time supporting Canterbury in the late 60's, early 70's and a lot of them include Johnnie, even in the twilight of his promoting days he was a fantastic showman and always the centre of attention. Absolutely no doubt in my mind, Johnnie Hoskins No1!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The man was a legend, right to the end. There have been / are some good promotors but JH will always be Mr Speedway and he was "Ours"

are you saying the teams in the UK are not worth watching?
-
Cheers Gem quite true, although I did cheer Lee on towards the end of the meeting but then he is a Brit but that will not change my opinion of him
-
Oooo there's someone I must get to read that
-
Oh but he did was still around when the GP came on the tv., Jim Blanchard and Ivan signed a lovely print for my Mum for Mothers Day when she gets home from NZ this week sometime she will be over the moon with it, will probably take pride of place in the "Kiwi" Room Nice to see everyone again, there were some missing this year but it's what you make of it, quite a few more stayed up chatting til the early hours and yes Barney you stayed up later than me this time make the most of it, it wont happen again!

You might, Mark fans don't!
-
Dad said in years gone by it had been known for Canterbury had a record crowd of 5,000 in the later years in went down to 2,000ish. If Lynne is reading this perhaps she could get a more realistic figure from Mum.

Send him my love and tell him there's no getting away from it now he's ours!!!!!! Shame they never brought this in a few years ago else we could have a World Champion again now as well

Honey and I have known each other too long to carry anything on after it's died it's death aint that right Honey
-
Why drag it all up again?

Would of thought it all comes down to the tax man if they give an accurate figure then there's a humongous tax bill by the end of the season. Some tracks do give out attendance figures but too be honest probably a lot lower than are actually there. I was at Iwade on Sunday and throughout the season they averaged 80!!!! yes just 80 per meeting................. this season we hope to double that ok so it only makes 160 but it's a start and if everyone pitches in with Steve, Graham & Sheeeeeeeeeep's ideas it could work. I must add though it is an excellent afternoon out and everyone is more than welcome to join us.

That's a fair shout SK, why is there not a trophy with his name on anyone know? HERE when Ivan rode at Canterbury all those years ago
