Bobbin' Along replied to lady s's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'll be there Sandie - I got LW's mobile no. now, so I'll find you! Mind you, teh noise will probably lead me to you lot... I am now thoroughly over excited about it. If I were a small child I'd have thrown up by now. -
Cardiff Gp Advert
Bobbin' Along replied to SCB's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I don't think I would either. On a lighter note, I misheard the advert tonight - it sounded like it was Belinda Carlise IN the freestyle motocross. I'd pay good money for that.... -

OK ladies - I do not want to miss out this year. I will definitely meet up with some of you at the POW - outside or inside depending on the weather! Now I've met Sandie I'll have a fighting chance! -
Larry Ross anyone? 70's, 80's, 90's and still riding today. TBF, he's not ridden every year of those decades, but the title of the thread doesn't actually state that you have to.

I have wonderful memories of quite a few tracks. Mt favourites were Kings Lynn, Halifax, Sheffield, Belle Vue (Hyde Road). I liked different tracks for different reasons - Cradley was a bit of a dump compared to others, but the bar was friendly and the pork and suffing sandwiches brilliant. I didn't much like Hackney as a track, but I always loved the journey back - the coach always made the trip along the Embankment. I liked the stadium at Wimbledon, but not the track itself. I can't remember if it was Stoke or Long Eaton where you could park the car trackside and watch the meeting. Talking of smells - anyone else remember standing at Kings Lynn with the stink of the beet factory wafting over you, and the wind straight from the North Sea cutting straight through you?

Trees - I am guilty of using "we" in the greater, world wide sense. "We" as in the entire speedway community. "We" as in everyone who has an interest in speedway, regardless of country of origin. Not "we" in the jingoistic, British only sense. -

Hard Racing Or Dirty Riding?

I really, really detest that statement, along with the sentiment associated with most uses of it. It makes it sound as if you hope that Gollob would get injured. Surely that is something that none of us should wish on any riders, even ones we don't like? If that was not your intent - then my apologies. I've kept out of the discussion so far because after the incident happened, I couldn't bring myself to watch the replays. It looked bad enough first time round, let alone in triple slow motion. I therefore cannot (or will not) comment on who was to blame - it's an argument that could rage for years - possibly not in the same league as the Penhall/Carter LA incident to be fair. -

Exactly my point. I get a bit fed up, TBH, with riders not riding on domestic tracks but going out in the GP on tracks like yesterdays. But then again, what would the FIM do to them (let alone the BSPA) if they did? Look at Andersen a couple of years ago. Spoke out and was then overlooked for a seeded place, with much worse riders being chosen over him. -

I know that a lot of people who go to speedway like the "thrills and spills" of it - the added element of danger. Hell - it's probaby what get's riders involved in the first place. But last night took it not just one step too far, but several in my opinion. I would have loved to see a delay caused by the riders protesting about the track, like they did at King's Lynn or Gothenburg a couple of yeras ago when it was rained off, rather than picking riders up off the floor all the time. But as it has been pointed out - Hans Andersen complained about tracks and got left out of the series for his trouble. I'm not usually outspoken about Olsen, but this time he mucked up well and truly (I'm trying to be polite here). The only problem is - who else have we got? Who could take over? -

Tell that to my backside after 4 hours! I think that "entertaining", whilst it is undeniably a word, was NOT the word for what we witnessed last night. I won't quot all the comments, but I agree that if GP riders - arguably the best in the world - can be caught out by crappy track conditions, then it's a reallly bad track. Leigh Adams was over cautious all the way through and ended up out of the final. Hans and Gollob went for it and ended up being deposited on their backsides and various other parts of their anatomy. Sadly it wasn't a good advert for the sport we all profess to love. It was horrible to watch, but difficult to stop watching - a bit like a rabbit caught in the headlights. I hope that all the riders are OK - in as much as they can be with dislocations, bad bruising etc. Don't you just love that quote? It's almost as good as "purpose built tracks" - they're all purpose built! The word, ladies and gentlemen, is temporary...or perhaps sh**e. -

Nooooo! The inhumanity! Er....not quite Sandie! Entertaining though that would be Quick - hide the burgers -
Not heard anything this year - it's suspicously quiet. Last year we knew who would be "entertaining" us by the end of April. Any ideas?

I'm over the moon for Captain Fantastic. I thought he'd stuffed it up in his third ride, but what a come back! Mr Bobbin' is entirely to blame for the incident with Crump and Pedersen - he had not long noted that no-one had yet come off, when - Boof - it happened. -

I believe her surname is Boag. And she gave us brunettes a bad name with her silly questions. Mr Bobbin' thought she was cracking until she turned full face to the cameras.... -

Martin died from a brain haemorrhage - after one of the best meeting's he'd had. I was referring to Lief Whallman's racing incident.
-
No idea. My first match was 19 September 1983. I remember being told about the sad death of Martin Hewlett the year before, but after that I seem to remember the first death I heard of was Lief Whallman (Sp?) and that was a track accident.
-
Sorry Bob I realised afterwards that looked like I was attacking your post! I was referring to those people who choose to make a serious, well meant topic into a shopfront for smutty innuendo. As for the Sheffield rider - I have no idea who he was, and coming to the sport in 1983 am not likely to know him. But my sentiments stand the same.
