  1. Surely the 3 points for a win, regardless if its by 2 points or 20 points plus reducing the T/R to one per team means it is less important to have a strong home team as home side will get the 3 points even if winning by just 2 points, and better to have riders who can ride the away tracks so we canpick up some away points. With the new t/r rule there will presumably be less away wins this year in the league
  2. Interesting. George found out 11 days after booking Richie to ride for Newcastle v Edinburgh on 12 October. That means he must have booked Richie straight after the Glasgow semi final to ride on the 12th. Strange then that Newcastle announced then that the meeting would be on the 5th and repeated this for several days after. Perhaps Tsunami can confirm was Richie booked for the 12th if so why did Newcastle keep saying the meeting would be on the 5th or was he booked for the 5th and accepted and then Newcastle changed the meeting to the 12th
  3. from Edinburgh website FIXTURE UPDATE Monday 29 September 2014, 18:30 UK BY TOBY LERONE New fixtures on our calendar are coming thick and fast at the moment and sometimes it is even difficult for us to keep up to speed. However, as we look ahead to this week's action, Newcastle Diamonds will be at Armadale on Friday for the first leg of the Knock Out Cup semi Final. On Sunday 5th October we will be at Peterborough for a two o'clock start to the first leg of the League Cup Final. The deciding leg will be at Armadale on Friday 10th October. With thanks to the co-operation of Newcastle promoter, George English, we will be at the Newcastle Stadium on Sunday 12th October for the second leg of the Knock Out Cup semi final. That will be a 6.30pm start
  4. What time would the Berwick GP meeting be if it is postponed till Sunday. Surely a 2pm start would allow riders and fans to do both meetings
  5. Sunny start to the day in Newcastle, lets hope the weather holds out in the North as this looks a really good meeting. If it does get rained off, what time would the re-staging be on Sunday?
  6. Suprised the haven't moved the start time back to 7 or 7.30 to allow supporters going to the Gateshead game to get to Brough
  7. Everything to do with the speedway looked excellent track/fence /riders. Terracing coming along nicely, hopefully they will allow some of it to be used from the start of the season. Only suggestion is can someone use a chainsaw to chop down those ridiculous bushes on the centre green next to the starting gate. Other wise well done all of the volunteers over the winter/spring months
  8. Well done to everyone who turned out last Sunday. Was there any sign of the stadium owners having started work on the terraces, which I think is due to start sometime this month?
  9. Another trophy in the bag -winners of Speedway Star Programme of the Year Congratulations and well deserved. George says they are looking at ideas for next years program -how about a where are they now feature on former riders what they are doing since they retired, highlights of their newcastle career etc
  10. According to this weeks Speedway Star, Brian Havelock has revealed that Newcastle are also having a pre-season Air Fence Challenge home and away with Workington
  11. I thought admission was £15 at the gate and £14 in advance. If you are buying a season ticket then you are buying in advance. Hence the £14 quoted
  12. I m trying to work out how many fixtures they are planning on running. Season ticket price for Adult is £330. Car park season ticket is £30 Car park is normally £1.00 so thirty plus meetings? or maybe the car park charge is going up The adult admission was £14 so £330 represents about 24 meetings and you normally get a couple extra so say 26. 14 league matches 3 league cup in the group 2 x semi final and final of league cup 3 ko cup if they reach final 2 x round of northern fours and final as Darren mention in Speedway Star 2 x play off group 1 x play off final 1 x Tyne Tees Trophy 1 x Tyne Tweed Trophy That gives anything from 21 to 29 plus of course any replay from ko cup matches and pre season challenges. If this is right, season ticket looks good value
  13. The annoying thing is the hypocrisy when you see the state of footpaths and potholes in roads that the Council are responsible for, and the they close down terracing that is in a better state than their roads and pavements. Reading other threads it seems that air fences may interfere with sight lines so it is crucial that the terracing is started for the new season with the air fences in place.
  14. if you are heading north via the tyne tunnel, bear in mind that it is the sunderland airshow and traffic through the tunnel will be heavy between 4pm and 6pm. best come through Newcastle and avoid A19
  15. Surely GB should have used the joker at the first opportunity -heat 3 which tai won. Middleditch said in an interview he wanted to keep it until later and then 'lost' a ride for Harris. Saw loads of Scottish flags in the virtually empty stadium from fans who had obviously booked to go and see cookie. I saw that he bought a new engine just for the world cup. Barker had to borrow Harris's bike. Should have gone with the future cook, Worrall and lawson
  16. Very worrying I remember the old Middlesbrough track under Tim Swales and Ken Knott saying that they lost 500 fans when the grandstand burnt down at Cleveland Park. The worry is that unless urgent action is taken the same could happen at Newcastle. Many familiar faces who stood on the high steps are missing this season. It is obviously not the Newcastle promotions fault and for the council safety people to close the steps is a farce. Most of the pavements in the city which the council are responsible for repairing are in a far worse condition. Newcastle speedway and William Hill need to challenge the councils safety people and get at least some of the high steps re-opened. The local MP and councillors and indeed many former Lord Mayors are great supporters of the speedway and should be encouraged to fight the council on the speedways behalf. Leaving the steps closed for the season will be a financial disaster for Newcastle speedway
  17. Gutted at this news. Speedway cannot afford to lose another track. Edinburgh fans always travel in large numbers to away tracks so this would affect every track. Hope a saviour can be found. I am also disgusted that some highly respected posters on this forum have resorted to jokes and ridicule on this topic. Can the moderators please remove those comments and issue a warning to the offenders about the offence their posts cause to Edinburgh supporters
  18. Two points Firstly, I think the play offs are a good idea but not a mini league. Just have top four in two semi finals and a final. The mini league means that one team will be left waiting for the result from the other twos match to see who qualifies. Secondly its a busy time of the season for the riders and their machinery, especially those doubling up with Elite Legue clubs. It will be interesting to see how the doubling up riders and their machinery from both of last nights teams, fare in tonights elite league play offs and league matches.
  19. Cannot believe the comments from people who were not there. We arrived at 5.30pm and they had covered the corners.Only light drizzle. Track was ok at that time just needing a bit of work. All of the riders were changed and ready to go, but subsequent heavy rain proved too much. Promotion should be praised for doing everything possible to get the meeting on including using the covers on the corners -first time i have seen this in the premiers league
