  1. Can't understand the problem. Someone needs to tell the Ipswich announcer that some fans are recording the WC and don't want him announcing the result. I feel empowered enough to do that at Newcastle
  2. Thanks Steve, enjoy your trip to Suffolk. Checked Ipswich website as per Steves link The sides for tonight are as follows: - Ipswich 'Sackers' Witches 1. Craig Cook (G), 2. Leigh Lanham (G), 3. Nico Covatti 5.68, 4. R/R, 5. Rohan Tungate 6.73, 6. Stefan Nielsen 4.00, 7. Ritchie Hawkins © 4.50 Team Manager: Phil Hilton Newcastle 'Sapphire Engineering' Diamonds 1. Lewis Kerr 7.49, 2. R/R, 3. Steve Worrall 6.83, 4. Anton Rosen 6.08, 5. Ludvig Lindgren © 7.16, 6. Simon Nielsen 3.60, 7. Lewis Rose 3.78 Team Manager: George English Ipswich site says: Please note: You may use any of the articles featured within this news section (either in part or in full) on other websites and media channels, providing the content and any related quotes remain unchanged, and the source of the article is clearly acknowledged as www.ipswichwitches.co. This permission does not extend to the use of any photographs contained in the articles. Dan says: Thanks Ipswich for the team news. 2 guests for Ipswich Craig Cook and Leigh Lanham. You couldn't have brought in anyone better than this pair. Newcastles long term injured Anton Rosen cannot make this match so as per most of Newcastles season we are going into yet another match with only 6 riders. Nico Covatti 5.68 has ridden Brough Park well this season. I am amazed his average is so low. If you decide to let him go I would be happy to see him join the Diamonds Usually I am optimistic about the Diamonds but our teams averages make them good second strings, we have no recognised Heat Leaders. So I don't expect to win this or any other away matches. I hope Newcastle are good on the night and entertain the Ipswich fans and if we get anything from this encounter I will be surprised but very happy
  3. Newcastle Lewis Kerr Anton Rosen (Could ride or maybe R/R if still unfit) Steve Worrall Christian Henry (should be back after injury) Ludvig Lindgren Simon Nielsen Lewis Rose If Anton is still out injured its R/R again I would have liked to show the Peterborough team but they were using a couple of guests for their home match on Friday so haven't a clue about their line up for Sunday. Their team will likely include Robert Lambert who came close to joining the Diamonds when Danny King came in. Interesting to see how Robert goes at Brough
  4. Just checked the Official Newcastle Diamonds website expecting to see what Anton and Christians injuries mean to this match. News of a guest and or rider replacement but no info from the website so I will just tune in to the "Live" service tonight anyway. We need 7 riders, as we have seen what happens with R/R, a withdrawal from a meeting means reserves in every other heat and that has cost us dearly this season
  5. Newcastle are smarting from a home defeat at the hands of league leaders Somerset. Ipswich 1. Danny King 2. Gino Manzares 3. Nico Covatti 4. Cameron Heeps 5. Rohan Tungate 6. Another? 7.Ritchie Hawkins © Newcastle 1. Lewis Kerr 2. Anton Rosen 3. Steve Worrall 4. R/R for Christian Henry 5. Ludvig Lindgren 6. Simon Nielsen 7. Lewis Rose Both teams may have changes that I was unaware of when I started this thread so please post any changes to both teams. Newcastle could be tracking Anton Rosen back from injury but Christian Henry is likely to miss this meeting a mandatory lay off for a concussion injury at Scunthorpe last Friday. Newcastle thanks to Nico Covatti for his guest booking. He was a popular guest in our defeat against Somerset As a Newcastle fan I would like to say we will beat the Witches but I cannot see the Diamonds winning, I think we will figure in a number of 3-3 heats
  6. Is The End Nigh! I hope not! Hi Hadrian Dog.. I hope you and the other fans (missing or thinking about quitting) understand that if you stop coming every week because our team of "second strings" are losing then the promoters will start wondering whether to bother themselves financially to bring us our speedway every week. Yes they appear to have got it wrong teamwise and not for the first time IMO but George and the Promotion team may see falling crowds as the fans signal that speedway is dying out at Brough and without healthy support no team can survive. If the "stay at homes" see themselves coming back next season when a better team may be in place then I would say 2015 could end up being the last time Newcastle had a speedway and 2016 may be a silent year speedway-wise. I think the next time Brough closes its doors to Speedway that will be the end of the stadium for speedway and a close down will be the end, Brough will never again stage speedway. The region does not have another suitable venue. So take your choice walk away or come back walking away will sound the deathknell. I will be at the track every week adding my support even though I would like a winning team. If the promoters get support maybe 2016 will be a better team and a more successful season. So please come back and support the team/promoters now in 2015. if you wait it could be too late. I would hate having to add Newcastle Diamonds to my Defunct Tracks website
  7. Somerset come to us as league leaders. They have had 8 league matches, winning 7 of them. Newcastle on the other hand have ridden 7 matches and lost 4 so it would seem that the visitors will be quietly confident of adding to their Tally at the expense of the Diamonds tonight. Christian Henry is ruled out due to concussion on Friday at Scunthorpe, Nico Covatti comes in as a guest for Anton Rosen. The Diamonds reserve pairing needs to put their poor showing at Scunthorpe behind them and concentrate on tonights match. We need more than 3 apiece from 7 rides each if we are to have a go at Somerset. Lewi Kerr, Steve Worrall and Ludde Lindgren have battled all season to keep Newcastle's scores close but the team needs a reserve that can hit the scores needed to win matches. Now we are into June we should be looking to strengthen. Personally (About to make myself unpopular) I would let Anton go if there is a decent replacement. I would also be looking to replace Simon. Lewis Rose should be kept on as he always looks to have ability for better things. Anyway the sun is shining as we go into the afternoon on Tyneside and I look forward to witnessing a good crowd to see the league leaders and a Newcastle win after 15 heats of passing
  8. I can't recall any Argentinian or Italian turning out for the diamonds unless Emiliano Sanchez took a guest booking?
  9. So here we go again Christian and Anton are injured and unavailable for this match. I hope both riders are ok with their injuries. So what will our team look like on Sunday 1. Lewis Kerr 2. Anton Rosen R/R 3. Steve Worrall 4. Nico Covatti (Guest for Christian Henry) 5. Ludvig Lindgren 6. Simon Neilsen 7. Lewis Rose
  10. Yes Brough Park is over recent years a track that visiting riders can have a go at riding. Visiting teams often win races and we don't have any more falls than anywhere else. Every week I find myself saying the track looks great for racing but sometimes the weather ruins the track staffs hard work and we can have a weather problematic first few heats same as anywhere else. At Scunthorpe Newcastle started as a 6 man team and Christian Henry's fall in his first ride reduced us to a 5 man team. Our reserves had to take 7 rides apiece and neither of them managed many points. The match was lost in heat 3 when Christian went down. If we had started with 7 men we may have got closer but if you are faced with 7 rides each for your reserves you really need one of them to get into double figures not just 3 apiece.
  11. Newcastle Lewis Kerr Anton Rosen R/R Steve Worrall Christian Henry Ludvig Lindgren Simon Nielsen Lewis Rose Anton is still out injured so its R/R again After a poor crowd last Sunday against Sheffield let us see the size of the crowd when league leaders Somerset take on the Diamonds. If the crowd is still poor then we can all start worrying.
  12. Message to absent Newcastle Speedway fans. You are still interested otherwise you wouldn't be reading this. You were once a fan and maybe you will come back again. I know as I did that in the 1980s. But back then I had a chance to come back as Newcastle Speedway was still running. The sport is losing money at Brough through lack of support through the turnstiles and if the decline continues George and the others may decide to throw in the towel. Be sure that if or when Brough Park stops staging speedway then that will be the end to one of the countries longest serving speedway tracks. I think if Brough closes it will never again host speedway. So you have stopped supporting Newcastle Speedway through the turnstiles but are still interested enough to come on here. Then I urge you to come back every week otherwise you may not have the choice in the future as our great old track will join the "Defunct Speedways" and I will have the very upsetting task of adding Newcastle Speedway to my www.defunctspeedway.co.uk website
  13. Hey ok I meant Plus not pus Latest team news. Ben Barker at 1 for the Scorpions and Anton Rosen still R/R for the Diamonds Scunthorpe 1. Ben Barker 2. Theo Pijper 3. Ryan Douglas 4. Carl Wilkinson 5. Alex Davies 6. Ben Wilson 7. Nike Lunna If there are changes to the Scorpions line up please let me know and I will amend the post Newcastle 1. Lewis Kerr 2. Anton Rosen R/R 3. Steve Worrall 4. Christian Henry 5. Ludvig Lindgren © 6. Simon Nielsen 7. Lewis Rose Not wanting to pressure the guy but come on Steve you need to ride every track as well as you can. You are not a Nil pointer anywhere else so hopefully you can get some wins at EWR. It looks like the KO cup will be both teams goal for the season, so I hope the match is great entertainment with the crowd wanting to come back for more next week
  14. Newcastle started season 2015 with a team of second strings pus two reserves. We have not acheived very much so far. Steve Worrall is nudging Lewis Kerr as our number 1 rider but Steve has never done much at Scunthorpe but!! he is learning all the time and could just score big points in this match? The rest of the Diamonds team are well capable of finishing last or winning a heat so look out Scunthorpe Newcastle could beat you at home
  15. Scunthorpe 1. Josh Auty R/R 2. Theo Pijper 3. Ryan Douglas 4. Carl Wilkinson 5. Alex Davies 6. Ben Wilson 7. Nike Lunna If there are changes to the Scorpions line up please let me know and I will amend the post Newcastle 1. Lewis Kerr 2. Anton Rosen 3. Steve Worrall 4. Christian Henry 5. Ludvig Lindgren © 6. Simon Nielsen 7. Lewis Rose I believe Anton Rosen is pencilled in for this match. The Swede has missed a number of matches with a broken collarbone. If he doesn't make an appearance we will use R/R to cover for him. The Diamonds performances (Steve Worrall apart) have not been very consistant so lets see what getting back to full strength does for the team. Anton will be at number 2 or 4.
  16. Newcastle Lewis Kerr Anton Rosen R/R Steve Worrall Christian Henry Ludvig Lindgren Simon Nielsen Lewis Rose Sheffield Simon Stead / Guest Josh Grajczonek Ty Proctor (R/R ?) Ashley Birks Jason Garrity Andre Compton Josh Bates / Guest James Sarjeant Arthur Sissis The Diamonds have been missing Anton Rosen for a few weeks and are likely to use R/R for him in this match. The Tigers usually use a guest for long term injured Simon Stead and will be using R/R for Ty Proctor. Newcastle at home are a difficult side to beat so I expect the Tigers will struggle. If Simon Stead was fit and in their side he would have notched 13 to 15 points but without him the team will struggle. Guest Josh Grajczonek is a good rider but not up to Steady's level
  17. After a defeat by a stronger team I always hope that the diamonds were entertaining. As we all know the diamonds are a team of second strings+. We didn't bring in a 9 point guy for 2015, hoping one of our homegrown riders would reach that level but so far in 2015 that hasn't happened. Steve Worrall is the closest we have to a "proper" leader but he was missing at Somerset. I was well pleased by the team in the first half of the match but we were found wanting in the last few heats. Christian Henry did really well
  18. Ah Steve, I hope Lewi is fit enough. He is so important to our line up
  19. Errrr, can I not have a holiday then You must all miss my opening posts!! Ha nah I thought not. Just came back from Dubrovnik in Croatia. It was great temperatures low to middle 20s centrigrade ish, just hot enough to lie around in the sun but too hot to walk any distances came back to Newcastle airport and 9 degrees brrrr My holiday has knackered me so I won't be driving up to Glasgie. Ok I missed our trip up the A1 to Berwick and our homematch against the Monarchs. So I escaped watching two defeats. At Glasgow Newcastle need all riders to hit their averages at least. Steve Worrall is our in form leader at present Lewis Kerr will back up Steve on the score chart Anton Rosen R/R - I think Anton will be close to a comeback but he should get "signed off" for a home match Ludvig Lindgren capable of winning odd races! Sorry Ludde!! You are my fave of all our team but sometimes you ride like a wuss mate Christian Henry having a few problems lately Simon Neilsen is he fit? If not a guest will fill the slot Lewis Rose a rider with talent but struggling a bit this season My forecast is for Newcastle to win the match and Ludde to top score!! Yeah well its what I would like to read after the match. BUT..I hope the Diamonds entertain the Glasgow fans regardless of the result. Ehhh Glaswegians, you may just recognise the photo/avitar against my name "Dantodan" . The photo is of me in front of a 1929 Douglas Speedway Bike. The photo was taken about 10 years ago at your transport museum when i was up in glasgow
  20. So let's concentrate on Saturdays match now Berwick Ben Barker Hynek Stichaeur Claus Vissing Thomas Jorgensen Kevin Doolan Alex Edberg Luke Crang I have lost track of the Bandits line upn Can a Bandits fan supply a correct 1-7 for the Bandits Newcastle Lewis Kerr Anton Rosen R/R Steve Worrall Christian Henry Ludvig Lindgren Simon Nielsen Lewis Rose The 2015 Diamonds are operating without a recognised out and out number 1 rider. Lewis Kerr, Steve Worrall and Ludvig Lindgren will score valuable points at the top of our score chart. Christian Henry is capable of at least 5 or 6 points Simon Nielsen and Lewis Rose can pick up important points so watch out Berwick. This Newcastle side may not dent your home record but I think they will entertain you.
  21. Well yes but if we all give up because we think the sport is dying it will die. Ask yourself have you any skills that could help your promoters and if you think you can help go and knock on the doors like I did. in 2004 the Diamonds did not have a supporters club. We the Diamonds Geezers filled the gap. Amongst other things we set up a display stall with a bike or two and took it all over the northeast, we handed out leaflets some of which were free admission tickets and it seemed to help. The DGs also bought and converted a couple of advertising trailers (with Darryls help) which we put next to busy roads close to Newcastle. We got on a few radio programmes publicising the Diamonds. When Newcastle restarted their supporters club I decided raising funds for the Diamond Geezers alongside the supporters club who also needed to raise funds was going to be impossible, I took ill at this time so I decided to fold the Diamond Geezers as no-one else wanted to run it. I still think the Diamond Geezer idea was a good one and perhaps the idea could be taken on by some other hard working individuals at Berwick and possibly Newcastle should the need arise
  22. Trying to encourage more pay at the door punters is difficult. Publicity is the only way IMO. In 2004 we, (Newcastle) nearly closed down. I came along with some friends known as the "Diamond Geezers", we met reguarily with the promoters over the winter and all of 2005, we raised funds to sponsor our ideas and helped Darryl and George towards continuing in 2005. The Newcastle Speedway support group, the Diamond Geezers were self financing, we never received a penny from the promoters, by choice, as we just wanted to help keep speedway going. We didn't even ask for free admission. We spent loads of our personal time and effort publicising Newcastle speedway. I think the promoters got a lift by our involvement and they have kept going ever since with later sponsors help. The Diamond Geezers were not a supporters club, that came later and I wish them well. Berwick could benefit from a similar thing to the Diamond Geezers. A group of you could acheive things, like we did, that the promoters cannot find the time to do ie get out and about looking for contacts and publicising the Bandits. I really hate the idea that any of our local clubs will close down through lack of support so good luck Bandits I hope your crowds improve
  23. Bet you bought Barry a pint and are still waiting for him to get you one back Sunderland 17 year old Gordon Byers won the first ever race at Brough Park on 17th May 1929. Unfortuately Brough closed down in 1930 so you and Barry were out of work until Speedway came back to Brough in 1938. Edinburgh started in 1928 at Marine Gardens, Seafield Rd., Portobello, Edinburgh so the Monarch beat us by a year! Can't be at this match cos family comes first. The match promises to be a cracker. I hope to see Cookie and the others later when they ride at Brough
  24. Tsunami devotes countless hours to training. I sincerely hope he sees one or two of his trainees make it via the National League and the Premier League to the top flight, but Tsunami, if you don't see a trainee go that far your value to speedway is still immense and you have done far more than your bit. Back to that match at Berwick I would have been there but it clashes with my family and I going on holiday. I think Newcastle's team of "second strings" will entertain and we may get closer than some home fans think we are capable of. Anyway I hope Berwick get a larger gate than normal due to lots of Diamonds fans heading up the A1
