I hope Newcastle can fit Ludvig into the 2015 team. Ok he has some issues to sort out re his occasional spells where he struggles, but who can say he doesn't entertain us at Brough Park!! Ludde often misses the gate and then we witness his fantastic blasts around the outside. If he comes back I will be happy. Danny King should also be invited back as he like Ludvig is very entertaining at coming from behind. Stuart Robson too is too entertaining to not bring back in 2015. I think we should build the team around these 3 and we will be guaranteed some exciting races every week. I await a slagging off for my choice of riders for 2015 but really I pay my money to be entertained and these 3 do that Also would like to see the Twins back

Hey Glasgow, What is the point in having an "Official" website if it gives out the wrong info. Travelling fans may well have been mislead by the 3pm start time on your website. They may have noted the 3pm start time and not revisited your website again to see your amendment to 5pm. I hope you will compensate any 3pm arrivals by letting them in for free!

I have started this thread early with 10 days to go. Hopefully it will get enough hits to keep it near the top of the list on the forum. Newcastle have a 16 point lead to take to Glasgow. The riders in both teams will want to extend their season. The winners will meet Edinburgh over two legs in the semis and will have a chance to progress all the way to the silverware. Newcastle have the dependable Danny King and Stuart Robson plus Lightnin' Ludvig Lindgren at 1,3 and 5. The Diamonds have a British rider and prospect in Lewis Kerr who may score well at Glasgow. We will be using R/R at number two for the injured Lewis Rose. At reserve we have Simon Neilsen. In the other reserve slot in place of the unlucky Chris Mills we will track a guest. I am going for a Newcastle aggregate win, sorry Glasgow, but I hope you will have voted to stay with the UK. I don't want to see Scotland go! I assume a Scottish Parliament will not interfere with Glasgow and Edinburgh competing with us Sassenachs in speedway!

I quite enjoyed the 85th anniversary meeting despite there being no old bikes etc. I thought Ludvig was yet again the most entertaining rider. But I take my hat off to every rider. Brough's track now has a few grippy options for the lads to have a go at overtaking. The 2nd bend on lap 1 is great to watch and so too the entry to the 3rd bend and the outside on bend 4. Ludvig should be asked back next season as long as his average is low enough. Our Swede is not a number 1 rider, home and away but he is a crowd pleaser second to none at Brough. As a season ticket holder I went upstairs and had a few nibbles at a very good buffet. The freebies were fine, not that I wanted a scarf or programme board or a trip onto the centre of the track. Been there a few times over the years but I suspect many other season ticket holders would want the centre green trip and gifts. Anyway, my thanks to the promotion for saluting their season ticket holders, Maybe it would be a good thing to honour us every year in a similar way if the funds are ok. I always buy my season ticket early to give my cash hopefully that it will be a financial shot in the arm and will help the promoters in their teambuilding activities etc Chris Mills I have appreciated Millsy this year, he has figured in quite a few memorable races. Broken vertebrae, I had an operation on my vertebrae a few years back, it was very painful and took me ages to get over it! No way could I have risked riding a speedway bike after the op. Perhaps Chris is made of sterner stuff and if he still has the appetite for racing will make a comeback next year but my advice would be "Don't even think about risking it" Good luck Chris

Little info has come out so far re our 85th birthday meeting. Newcastle speedway is now one of just a handful of currently operating tracks that started as far back as 1929. I am a bit puzzled as to why this 85th anniversary meeting is taking place in September as our first meeting was 17th May 1929. Never mind the correct anniversary date I am pleased that we are celebrating the 85th year. If anyone is interested in the history of North East speedway please check out my website www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk

Edinburgh V Newcastle (pl) 8/8/14 @ 7.30pm

A fit Kerrminator could make the difference but really the Monarchs are such a talented side. Newcastle are underachievers on their travels, they will come good somewhere, I feel and the lads are capable of scoring well anywhere, but I think the Monarchs will be too good for the Diamonds this season. -
Are we sure the Kerrminator will miss the matches? I have decided not to travel up to Glasgow because of this. I think Glasgow will win the first leg and we will win the second at Brough. I will be happy to win the aggregate tie with a last heat decider. We pays our money and we hopes for top class entertainment! Glasgow's new guy is a dark horse he must have talent otherwise Glasgow would not have brought him in. Looking forward to Sunday I hope everyone is able to get back down to Brough

Er Steve how do you know a badgers bum is bare!. wot have you been up to? The Diamonds 2014 are a strange side. It has been hard to forecast any result. As we have not been going well away from Brough I sadly say Redcar to win this and us looking for the odd point. The Cookie Monster will do us proud I am sure and if he ever gets sick of Armadale we will have him for a career move

Here we go again, Boro v Newcastle. The Diamonds are going great guns at home but are not so good on their travels. Lewis Kerr will miss the match due to lopping the top of a finger on Sunday at Brough. That is a big blow as the Diamonds will miss his points. I presume it will be R/R on Thursday for Lewi?

Somerset V Newcastle 18th July
dantodan replied to EnglishRoundabout's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Chris Schramm has decided to retire and Simon Nielsen is coming in but not til Sunday. Have we a decent reserve guest for Somerset tonight? -
Newcastle's track has changed this season. Heat wins are generally a second slower than they were in 2013 but watching riders who know how to ride the track it appears we have a faster outside line ie it's grippy out wide. I am not a trackman too lazy to volunteer for that hah!... so I haven't a great deal of knowledge how to prepare track surfaces, but in my humble opinion the track now has lots of grip and I guess this causes problems for some riders if they go out wide. But just watch Lightnin' Ludvig he rides the outside so well. The sport is supposed to be speedway and if a rider cannot cope with the outside grip on our track maybe they should stick to the inside line. Easy for me to say as I am not out there risking MY neck but really the choice is with each rider. Stay safe on the inside and get passed by the likes of Ludde or learn the way to blast around out by the fence. I really don't know if the track has become dangerous and I hate to see the docs and ambulance on the track so if it is the track maybe it can be changed. It would be interesting to hear the views of some riders

If anyone fancies a browse through Newcastle's speedway history. American Eddie Ingels was only with us in 1984 the season that it all went wrong for Newcastle Promoter Ian Thomas, is on my website www.newcastlespeedwayhistory.co.uk Why not have a browse and email me if you have anything in your collection that would improve the website

Somerset's visits to Tyneside are always entertaining affairs the new look Diamonds are trying to make up for a disappointing start to the 2014 season. Newcastle have good riders and apart from suffering injuries to our lower order we are still doing ok. Lewi Kerr a max last week is promising so much and Robbo and the King of Diamonds are always in the points. Ludvig is struggling, but I think it's temporary. He cannot gate at the moment and his confidence is low. I am sure Ludde will bounce back, maybe he needs to change his bikes if he has enough cash in his piggy bank! I am looking forward now that he is back to watching Lewis Rose. He is talented and when he gates he does well. 2014 may turn out to be a disappointing year trophy-wise but the upside is we may get closer home matches and last heat deciders. Dodgy weather over May and so far in June, lets hope Sundays match will be dry
