  1. I wasn't sure about John Bowerman, but I think you may be right. Don't know about Graham Stewart, but I've already posted Christopher and Primmer, and Craig Featherby was English. Steve
  2. Just letting you know that I have finally got the new page (Addendum) up and running on my website : My Webpage Hope you find it interesting (as well as moving) Steve
  3. You're more than welcome, Kevin. You know, I quite enjoy being an anorak... Steve
  4. I'm not going to disagree with you (as apparently there is proof that it's only spelt with one 's'), but most people have probably only seen it spelt with two. After all, that's how nearly all books, programmes etc, and even official records, list it. And Iris, sorry about the "Bjorn" instead of the "Björn", I just couldn't be bothered to use my character map... :-) Steve
  5. Bjorn joined Southampton in 1959 until they closed at the end of 1963, then moved on to West Ham in 1964 for just one year. He had quit British speedway by the time he became World Champion in 1965. Steve
  6. Couple of spelling corrections needed, Puma... It's Joe WEICHLBAUER and SYD Van Der Vyver. Steve
  7. Nils Ringstrom rode for Long Eaton in 1966, and Glasgow the following year. However, I think you'll find that he was Swedish. Steve
  8. JULES and LAURIE... You still haven't listed Max Amor, Joe Hicks, and Stephen Rose! Steve
  9. I know what you're saying, Ross, but you have to admit that he was actually known as a Kiwi. Obviously, there have been a few others who have changed nationality, such as Bob Andrews, Mitch Shirra, or Tadeusz Teodorowicz (I don't count Rune Holta among them!), and that might actually make an interesting list. To include riders on multiple lists here would not only be confusing, but could spark a few arguments! Incidentally, here's another forgotten Aussie: Jack Hyland, who rode for Middlesbrough in 1939. Steve
  10. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that Norwich's Arne Hendriksen was Danish. Steve
  11. Nice one! Joe Hicks rode a total of six matches for Glasgow over a two year period. That makes it 113, and Reading's Max Amor and Stephen Rose (Swindon) take the total to 115. Steve
  12. OK Ross, there's another Aussie we've forgotten - Ipswich's Shorty Schirmer. Any ideas about his nickname? His height, perhaps? Steve
  13. Or Canadian Dave Dodd, who also rode for Poole, and Neath's South African, Howdy Cornell. Steve
  14. Two more for you: Jack Gates (St. Austell) Gordon Leigh (Swindon) who was sadly killed at Warragula in December 1959. Steve
  15. ...and we're up to 112 with: Jules Benson (Rayleigh) Laurie Holland (Leicester) Steve
  16. Oh, don't forget South African Vern McWilliams, who rode for Poole. Steve
  17. Sorry, but I made a mistake; it is SYD, not Sid. Steve
  18. Morian Hansen (Hackney & Denmark) Brian Jakobsen (Poole & Denmark) Claes Jensen (Poole & Denmark) Stefano Alonso (Edinburgh? & Italy) It is BENT Rasmussen, not Bengt. It is BENT Norregaard, not Bengt It is LASZLO Munkasci. It is ERIK Knudsen, not Eric. Steve
  19. I could see this happening... That's why I listed the teams, because there are a few riders who actually shared the same names. Anyway, here goes : 1 - Rob Allen 2 - Ernie Brecknell 4 - Rod Colquhoun 5 - John would probably be best 6 - Dave Edwards 7 - Mike Farrell 9 - Craig Hodgson 10 - Merv Janke 11 - Bryan Loakes 12 - Malcolm Mackay 14 - Mick McKeon 15 - Steve Reinke 17 - Looks like Nigel Tremelling 18 - Darrel Branford 21 - Rusty Harrison 24 - Rob Maxfield, although he was often called Bob 25 - Dave O'Connor 26 - There may have been a Mark, but Max Pearce is the one I was talking about. 27 - Peter Thompson rode in England in the late 1960's and early 1970's. 18 - Dale Watson rode for Peterborough in 1983 Also, Paul O'Neal (correctly spelt O'Neil) is not an Aussie, but a New Zealander. Piet Van Den Berg, when riding in England was called Peter Vandenberg. Jim Ryman was usually known as Jim, and not Jimmy. It is Brett Woodifield, and not Woodfield. It is Dud McKean, not McKeon. Steve
  20. So too is Sid Van Der Vyver, who rode for Leicester... Steve
  21. You're welcome, but don't forget these: Peter Baldock (Hull) Wayne Bridgeford (Sheffield) Les Hewitt (Coventry) Bob Meyer (Exeter) Allan Quinn (Harringay) Jack Scott (Plymouth) Ken Walsh (Exeter) Oh, and it's Stan CATLETT, not Catlerr. Steve
  22. and nobody's mentioned Davey Watt! Steve
  23. ...and some more... Rob Allen (Rye House) Darrel Branford (Edinburgh) Peter Christopher (Canterbury) Dave Hamnett (Hackney) Bryan Loakes (Hull) Wayne Lorymer (Peterborough) Darryl Simpson (Canterbury) Steve Payne (Milton Keynes) Tony Primmer (Wimbledon) Ron Schliebs (Peterborough) Nigel Tremeling (Poole) Dale Watson (Peterborough) Ian Wedgwood (Middlesbrough) Steve
  24. Workington's Gary Forscutt will make it 110... Steve
  25. And a few more Aussies... Jack Bishop Ken 'Casper' Cameron (I'm sure he was an Aussie) Roger Commerford (Stoke) Harold Hastings (Lea Bridge) 'Buzz' Hibberd Greg McNeill (Milton Keynes) Kym McConnell (Workington) Rod North (Stoke) Cliff Watson (West Ham) - I believe there has been a query about him on here somewhere, but he did represent Australia in the 1949 World Final. Mark Williams (Nottingham) Ray Wood (Milton Keynes) Steve
