last i heard Ron is the driving force behind a huge multi million dollar racing complex in calif. that will encompass a nascar oval, road course, moto cross track, sprint car 1/2 mile oval, and... a speedway track. ! Throw in an rv park and home sites and ya get the picture. me, im still collectin and sellin aluminium cans for the good of the planet..

excuse me but.....the final act took far more courage than what he did on the track?
-
quite sure the Hesketh was a 1000 cc v twin. in all actual fact, a bit of a hunk of junk, although certainly collectible because of the rarity.
-
really interesting tid bit. i didnt think there was ever a magneto sparked Weslake so i learned something. I still believe England has some of the best back yard boffins in the world. it is amazing how many clever and brilliant people produce some really innovative products from garden sheds, even to this day.
-
if memory serves me the first Weslakes had batteries.
-
Speedy Pete was probably the best track man in the business and just a really good fella. Sorry about the news, Old England just lost one of her best assets. Speedy Pete, you will be missed.

i thought the Weslake SOHC was a tidy package, but once again, they just werent as good as the push rod model, probably not enough developement? I know too that Weslake made a few push rod two valves for the under 21 finals. I would think those would be the most valuable of the lot. If anybody has one of those sitting in a barn, i would be interested in takin it off your hands..

Christer was killed while racing in Australia. Dont know too much about Soren, but I think he lost the battle with the bottle in the end. Shame, he was a really nice person, and an absolute pleasure to watch on a bike.

The Cardiff G.P. was a perfect advert for what Speedway should look like. The track had dirt and Chris Harris was not going to be beat no matter what. Magnificent effort. Great track and the cream rose to the top. Well done Chris!

nice post, but, they were slow. too much hassle, too little gain. however, nice collectible but the design should have produced 20 more horsepower than they did. inherent design flaw which is surprising being a Weslake. made a good sound though.

Dont think many were built. Top heavy to ride and never realised their potential. Just didnt make the power they should have. Make a good boat anchor, however, fairly rare so should be collectable. Hang on to it..

or Mitch Shirra for his pugilistic skills..

i thought this thread was supposed to be about DJ, all due respect to the Flyer.

i just know this has to have something to do with canterbury..

Ian was a class act and a damn good racer. polite, impeccable manners but from what i heard if ya crossed him would stick ya in the fence as soon as look at ya.. my kind of person.

This issue is the best yet, albeit the saddest. I have read it three times already. Kudos to Brian Burford and John Berry for writing two gut wrenching articles with honesty and without sensationalism. Tonys' article on Mauger V. Rickardsson is unapologetic, and well written wether we agree with his opinion or not. This issue, with the excellent writing, is what we want, & we got it.. gotta go.. theres a big ginger Tom wanderin up the dock headed for my live animal trap with a half a mackerel in it. Bet I get him.. i'll get at least a fiver for him, a ginger tom weighn at least a stone an a half.. see ya.. shhhhh..

welllll.. that my friend might just be a bit of a reach.. but hey, thanks for the compliment anyway.. ..

boys, boys.. quit arguin..enuff to turn a man to drink.. ok what do ya say you all meet at the old football field for a bit of a scrap, i got a twenty in my pocket to use for the sweet science of gamblin, an my bet is on....my nephew... OL Puss! heh heh..

i think the Edward Jancarz article was very moving and sad.. Such a tragedy and waste... of a life.. i guess it goes to show we never know what goes on behind closed doors of others.. steady eddie was a top notch, class act on a speedway bike, one of the best poles ever, and during his career a total gentleman to his many fans.. gut wrenching article...

i dunno Iris, track looks like its got a bit too much grip on it..

Aussie Titles Round 3 - Ding Ding
sandman replied to Ozyace's topic in International World of Speedway
without seeing the conditions, really unfair for me to make this observation or comment, but..i think leigh adams is just a bit tougher than the rest. he is pretty damn good..work on his gatin a bit, there is yer next world champion folks.. -
agreed.. Lance King had the best pedigree of most all the modern era American riders.. Since he was a child, Speedway was all he knew.. Lance was a speedway specialist in the purest form.. He was junior Champion, always had the best equiptment, loads of natural ability.. His father was one of the best tuners in the World as well.. All I can figure, is he burned out a bit early because of starting so young..Great rider.. surely one of the best Americans talent wise.. Anybody know what he is up to these days? I heard he was an instructor for a race car driving school, dont know if that is true or not..
-
spot on Steve.. Wiggy was everything right about speedway, and if he was still alive, quite sure he would have been at the fore front of bringing the sport up.. i didnt know him, but always admired him. great self promoter, rider and a top flight person..

howard cole sr. also made a couple of minature speedway bikes in scale, large model sized, 1:24? that were perfect and actually ran on methanol, perfect examples of a jap rotrax and jawa. i know i mentiond this long ago, but those examples must be worth a lot. i cant imagine the time and skill it took to do that..what an engineer/machinist..
