I dont understand how the hell someone can make three hundred pounds a year for playin silly buggers in three countries..sounds like a good gig to me... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Surely you must make more than that for playing "silly buggers" on the high seas <{POST_SNAPBACK}> that which you speak would earn somebody 300 hundred lashes not pounds..

the interior of ol mexico is still pretty safe, its the border towns that need to be avoided from what i have read. big fight for control of the drug trade with kidnappings and murder common place. citizens from any country can be a target. ive never had a problem, but hey, who in their right mind would wanna kidnap the ol sandman? aint got a pot to p*** in an it shows too.. not bein able to bathe in fresh water very often may put em off too.. stinky gringo..

I would like to add my condolences as well. Alan was well thought of and respected by all who knew him. A good solid racer, and a top fella. Was sorry to hear the tragic news.

if yer ever in the bahamas stay away from a cabbie named sweet simon.. he makes those polish cabbies look like boy scouts.. drives an old rusted out 70 pontiac bonneville and he wears a drivers cap..got a gold front tooth and has been known to be charming when he is in the mood..do not under any circumstances agree to the special tour for an extra fiver..

Iris123, i dont know keef or his friends from california, or texacali, but in the recesses of that which is left of my brain, i seem to remember college girls.. has a certain ring to it anyway, cant remember why tho.. capn morgans rum erased a lot of things.. i know nothing.. ahem.. as i watched the sun rise over the cortez sea, i looked at my boat anchored not far from me. from behind the bars on the window i see, some local bas**rds stealin my dingy from me.. i vowed revenge, right then and right there, to retrieve my dingy from those bas**rds theivin, pirate lair.. sandmans revenge is swift, and rightgeous indeed, i broke outta prison and cut their throats with exceptional speed..i got to my boat and made some headway,....( laughin at the mexican coast guard, who would have to wake up,) to fight another day..i gave em the finger as i caught a good breeze,... said hasta manana ,the yucatan,.. if ya please...if that.. doesnt give ya a license to chill, nothin ever will my friends.. i once met stinky carruthers in mexicali bout 20 years ago iris123 does that count?

i met simmo in a mexican jail in jalisco bout a year an a half ago. just teasing.. i think it was guadalajara actually.. seriously though i did have the pleasure to see simmo race when he was at the top of his game and it was money well spent. many consider him one of the best british riders in his time esp in the 70's. and it wasnt guadalajara think it was matzatlan..the cell had a nice view of the sea of cortez actually..

Totally agree.. Decent tracks, regarding catering, cleanliness, service and track preparation come to mind. Unfortunately, by all appearances, lay down speedway bikes are dangerous to ride on a heavy cushion, so it is a bit of a catch 22 situation. A rethink on the track surfaces and bike design may be in order. Standard uprights are dinosaurs relegated to the past, but on a deep track that allows passing, a different story. Personally, I think an upright pushrod engined bike, if it were allowed to run nitro for instance, would be a match for a lay down on a deep track..We must find a way to introduce more passing in the sport, slick tracks were the beginning of the demise of the sport in the later 70's..Deeper tracks,.. is the answer, among others, and the technology will have to change for the changing times just as lay down bikes evolved around slick tracks..If you look at say Nascar for instance, they are always looking at parity between drivers and trying at least to encourage passing. They do this through carb restrictor plates, spoiler heights etc. Lay downs with short stroke OHV engines were the worst thing to happen to speedway in a long time..Right alongside slick tracks.. No one in the stands can tell the difference visually of 1/4 or 1/2 sec per lap. Its the racing and passing that counts. Nascar for the year 2006 is going to go with a less aero friendly design package on the cars and make them less aerodynamic to slow em down a bit and allow more passing. I say get some professionals for the catering dept., kick up the merchandising in the quality dept., more dirt and get rid of the laydowns. Even a half an upright with a pushrod motor should do the trick..

Steady Eddie was a very stylish racer, and good with the fans. Really such a terrible ending for such a nice man. I believe I have an Eddie Jancarz international Polish body colour, that I traded for a Gordeev one, somewhere. I always enjoyed seeing him ride..If there is anything positive about a thread such as this, it brings back good memories from a different time, of him, and it helps keep his memory alive..even though he is no longer with us..

Great entertainment for sure. Trouble is, most of the flamboyant riders seem to get more injuries over the course of their careers..I hate seeing past great riders racing on the downhill slide..Yer only remembered by how ya left the sport..Gotta go, think i just saw a bounty hunter hangin out at Woodys landing, askin too many questions..damn i knew i shoulda taken care of them marina fees i ran out on in alabama..
