Dont think that top five will be a million miles away and would be happy with that. The two reserves, well I suspect most PL teams would take them two, meaning they wont be in Bears colours.
-
They have Edinburgh in round two as they got a bye - so I read on Berwick's site.
-
Havent seen Wilkinson mentioned, surely he is a must for Scunny!
-
Interesting, be shocked if we could afford him - but be very welcome
-
And isnt he a Peterborough asset? That would make sense in terms of Havvy snr saying powers that be, as he would need to talk to BSPA about him wouldnt he? Would love him, but wont get too excited just yet...

Well my hats will go off to Brian H and the brothres if they can bring in the top class number one he claims to be after. And another signing to turn heads. Personally will be very happy with if we only see Summers and Skidmore back, we needed a fresh start. http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/speedway/aaron-summers-signs-redcar-bears-6330767 Skipper Aaron Summers will lead Redcar Bears again next season. The popular 24-year-old Aussie is the first rider to be confirmed for the club’s 2014 line-up - but promoter Brian Havelock expects more to follow shortly. Havelock says he is looking at bringing an “iconic” No 1 to South Tees Motorsports Park next year and he is also chasing another rider whose signing would turn heads. And the Bears supremo confirmed that 2013 Rider of the Year Hugh Skidmore could also sign on the dotted line for 2014 before long. Record signing Summers, 24, returns to Redcar for a fourth season, and his third as skipper having succeeded Gary Havelock following the former world champion’s career-ending crash at the start of 2012. “Aaron was one of the first to say he was keen to come back, along with Skidders,” said Havelock, “and we took that on board. “Aaron is good, he’s reliable and he doesn’t live a million miles away. “He’s no trouble and he wants to ride here. “I’d expect Hugh to follow although we have several permutations and if things don’t work out with one of them you’re 0.4 over the average limit before you know where you are. But I do expect him to follow.” Havelock has also revealed that he plans to have a big-hitting No 1 to spearhead the team’s Premier League charge next year. “My thinking is that if I get a No 1, he’ll go out and get 10 points every meeting,” said Havelock. “We haven’t had a No 1 who could do that for a while. “Ulrich Ostergaard came in and did it but once he lost the No 1 racejacket, he went down. “We’re potentially close to getting the guy I am after - we’re just waiting on the powers that be. “He’s the sort of rider who would turn heads, and the one I’m looking at for lower down the order is as well. “In fact I’ve got two cracking riders who want to come here. “I think we’ll have a great side if we get where we want to be.” The Bears’ first home meeting of 2014 will be a challenge match against Berwick on Thursday, March 27. Riders will give their services for free and money raised will go towards the cost of an air fence which must be in place for the start of next season. A return match will take place at Shielfield Park the following Saturday.

Aaron Summers confirmed on his Facebook page he has signed for Redcar in 2014.
-
So Brian H says we are getting an air fence now, the foam has to be flame retardant in foam fences now which has doubled the price. Seems Summers and Skidmore are nailed on for next year and team is to be built around them - can't be too unhappy with that - both solid if unspectacular but you need those riders in any side.

We all know the current regime do NOT lose money, hence why they wont let go. The crowds especially towards the end were very good, and Newcastle was big in play-off. They have paid basic, got lucky with Dyer, which papered over the cracks.

Teams Making The Move Up
RedcarRacer replied to muirspud's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Well those at the Wolves forum, seem to have come away with the idea of there being three possible teams moving up - Leicester we knew, but also Ipswich (wouldnt be a huge shock) and then Workington...personally would have thought Somerset would be more likely or even Sheffield but, who knows! -
If Havelock senior remains in charge we will have the smallest budge and cheapest team possible, we got lucky with Dyer this year. Summers, Skidmore, Wilkinson, Ostergaard and Dilger will be back as most wont appeal to any other clubs and will therefore be cheap.

Bears Vs Rebels 03/09/13 7:30pm

Classy outfit with a great number one, Somerset were good, Doyle and Morris superb. Bears pretty poor with Wilkinson the stand out and Sumners in 15. -

And? We know Micky is going elsewhere, that doesnt mean he isnt the true Rider of the Year! -
Rider Of The Year Votes...
RedcarRacer replied to RedcarRacer's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I think the mighty Ken Brockman best summed it up when saying: " I've said it before, and I'll say it again: democracy simply doesn't work." http://www.youtube.c...h?v=IrtLjWb0Fmo -
Rider A - adds 2.95 to his average Rider B - drops by 0.38 Rider B wins rider of the year... Give me strength... Redcar fans hang your heads in shame, if it was was not for Micky Dyer - we would have been in the bottom two this season. Yes Micky had a bad finish, but for God's sake he was our saviour! Whilst I like Hugh Skidmore, he was in no way Rider of the Year. What a disgrace. Thanks Micky, some of us won't forget the season you had, reserve to number one, something we have never seen at the STMP.
-
Sad to hear about Poole, his first appearance around the STMP was one of the most impressive from any rider.

Think everyone would love a change at the very top! To the 2014, I would only consider Dyer, Summers and Skidmore from the 2013 side. Clearly Dyer is going elsewhere - so Summers and Skidmore I would like to think will be back, dont think anyone would be desperate for Summers given his PL displays, whilst Skidmore has done well - but remains to be seen whether new Sheffield owners may want him back. I would look at Taylor Poole, worth bringing over and a great talent in my eyes. And with air fences fitted, surely we have to bring Maks Gregoric back on less than 5. I wouldnt mind starting with... Summers Skidmore Poole Gregoric However, I suspect Wilkinson and Ostergaard may be signed up, and wouldnt rule Kus out - all three are relatively cheap and current consortium love to pay peanuts!

Is It Time For Redcar To Dispense Of Matej Kus.
RedcarRacer replied to mikebaker's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Hats off to Kus, Wilkinson and Ostergaard, all three were superb tonight. -
What a great performance, dont think anyone saw that result coming. Firsty hats off to Kus, Wilkinson and Ostergaard, all three were superb. Skiddy and Aaron also superb. We even coped without Dyer who had a shocker. Worst Newcastle display I have seen in years. Kerr aside was outstanding early on and Rosen looks a great prospect. Lindgren and Tully were woeful, whilst the mighty Worrall was bang average. Even some very strange and debatable refereeing decisions couldn't spoil a great night. Track was excellent with a very big crowd.

Clearly this top should be moved to Elite, as Mr Helmsley states in the Star they full intend on riding against the likes of Cov, Wolves and Birmingham - so whatever it is called that will be top-flight and not the Prem.

I hope Ostergaard is in Newcastle's team too next year - he will be well under 7 next year.
