Thanks for the support ;-) Having read back through my texts, spoken to a few folk and read comments on the odd forum, I'm happy to announce that I'm quite comfortable with my views on last nights proceedings, and certainly not alone in them. I also have a reasonably thick skin (immeasurably more so than some riders, it seems....) and wouldn't dream of tempering my opinions for fear of upsetting someone or, God forbid, being called a name :-)

Definitely more fans on the back straight than usual. Not as many in the main stand as last week but still a good crowd in there (it holds @900 when full).

Good crowd last night, maybe not as many in the grandstand but certainly a lot more on the popular side. I'm sure if we could maintain the sort of level we've had for the last two weeks the promotion would be more than happy.

He is obviously a very talented rider and looked very quick tonight. Unfortunately his gating was poor to say the least, could learn a thing or two off Mr worral or Mr Wells tbh. You could be the most talented rider in the world but if you can't make the gate at pl level then you're going to struggle in the company of the elite :-\

Workington v Sheffield - Sunday 27th July - Official Statement WORKINGTON SPEEDWAY OFFICIAL STATEMENT It was with deep regret that this afternoon's planned Workington v Sheffield Premier League fixture had to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances some 40 minutes after the scheduled start of the meeting. Shortly before the planned start time a crucial piece of medical equipment was found to be unavailable and, when numerous attempts to source a replacement item proved to be unsuccessful, the Workington promotion were left with no alternative but to regretfully postpone the meeting. Comets owner Laura Morgan said: This is an unprecedented situation that we found ourselves to be in shortly before the meeting and we can only apologise to the fans and riders of both Workington and Sheffield for the inconvenience caused. Many people made great efforts to remedy the situation but unfortunately we were unable to resolve the problem and when all avenues had been explored, and with rain starting to fall, we were left with no alternative but to call the meeting off. We would like to place on record our thanks to all spectators for their patience during the delay and their understanding of the situation and also to the riders and management of Sheffield Speedway for their co-operation during the delay. Naturally steps will be taken to ensure that this does not occur in the future, and I would like to remind everyone to retain their re-admission ticket to gain free admission at a future home meeting. Apparently the stand in doctor turned up without a trauma kit, although I'm also hearing he wasn't a trauma doctor at all. Pathetic.

10pm curfew, afaik the medical cover is the same now as it's always been, going back to 1999. This is the first time I've known a comets meeting to be called off due to the lack of availability of a county ambulance. I think this says more about the state our nhs has been reduced to than anything else, I'm certainly not buying into some of the frankly ridiculous conspiracy theories I'm reading on here!

Glyn Picken was scheduled to ride in heat 1 but his throttle stuck open at the tapes and he had to withdraw. So I suppose it was excluded (or whatever it's called these days) for missing the 2 minutes. Rob shuttleworth was scheduled to be the third northside rider but got stuck in traffic en-route.

Hi mimmo, do you mean the first one this year (confusingly called the second) or the actual first one? The actual first northside amateur meeting took place late last year but I don't have those results. The first this year should be on here somewhere, I'll try and find it when I get on the laptop. Round 1 of the Northern Open Championship couldn't have got of to a better start at Derwent park last night with victory going to wild card Tamas Sikes who was untroubled throughout. Home favourite Tommy Fenwick was expected to be his biggest challenge but mechanical trouble meant he was ristricted all night. Luke Ruddick also showed some good speed and control but an EF and a fall held his scoring back while Ryan MacDonald continued his early season improvement by making the final. The highlight of the match though was the battles between Dan Phillips and Luke Crang who in 3 races constantly changed positions, passing and re passing both showing great sportsmanship in how they went about it and it was Crang who just got the drop on Phillips in the final to take second. Northside v Berwick this Sunday (28th) will take place prior to the start of the amateur meeting taking place the same day. I'm not 100% sure on the start time but I'd imagine around 12pm. Looking at the other fixtures planned for northside they all seem to coincide with amateur meetings so I'd imagine the plan would be the same, to hold the njl fixture prior to the amateur meeting. Having said that it is a bit of trial and error at the moment so it depends how things pan out, if it turns out better to hold it after the amateurs then it might change. I think I'm right in saying that this is the first time anyone involved in the njl has attempted to organise anything like this so it is a bit of a learning curve. It might not appear to be as professional or organised as the likes of the mdl but it is very much in its infancy. In the meantime I'll see if its possible to post results/information on here for those who are interested.

No northside training on Saturday 27th April due to the first of this years northside amateur meetings the following day.

It did take place but I'm not sure of the scores. Tommy fenwick won 2 heats for workington and Danny Phillips 1 for redcar, I remember that much.
