  1. Wasn't the magazine once banned by the Bspa from being sold at tracks for some outrageous reason?
  2. I went to Coventry for a league match once and it seemed like over a 100 races!
  3. If we do not use new riders, then we will still be using Harris and Nicholls, when they are 50! Imagine that!
  4. Nice one Rosco. All we need now are some riders!
  5. Last year is history and I'm looking forward to a great 4 way battle this year with no injuries. Then the question will be answered.
  6. Swindon riders did, and I expect many others too!
  7. So, Rider control returns! Interesting. Thank goodness the name has reverted to the "British League" I have been suggesting that for years. There's nothing pretentious in that name!
  8. There can be no doubt that the GP format is a lot fairer than the old one-off world final, but nothing can quite compete with the tension and excitement of the old finals, whereby one mistake, engine failure, or fall, would mean the end, because no one ever won a world title with less than 13 points. Qualification these days is much easier too, at least for the riders already included, I mean finishing in the top eight should not be too hard for the top riders, and even if that fails, then a wildcard is always possible. Overall, I just about prefer the GP series, mainly because the system is fairer, and in the old one-off days the best 16 riders in the world were never in the final.
  9. I've always thought it would be a non-starter.
  10. Nice bit of Polish speed there for the winner!
  11. Congratulations go to Thai. Already I'm looking forward to next years series, it could be the best one yet!
  12. This is a result that nobody had anticipated, and even though injuries went his way, he probably would have won it anyway. What a great season he's having. My bets were on Emil and Ward, but that's the way the cookie crumbles!
  13. d I was at that meeting and the race consisted of four American Riders. Penhall needed to win that race to win the meeting. However, he decided to not to get involved in the race, and to help his fellow countrymen out instead, so he settled into last place, and did wheelies for the entire four laps. He didn't reckon on the reaction of the crowd though, and they gave him the sort of reception normally reserved for Ivan Mauger! Juicy Brucie had never experienced anything like that before, and he did not like it very much!
  14. Not to mention another rule that suddenly appeared, stating that no team could have more than one eight point rider, affecting only Coventry, according to my memory, then, hey presto! that rule vanished the following season, thus allowing Ford to include terrible twins in his side. Just coincidence, i'm sure!
  15. Oh I see, it's an old article.Swindon fans will remember that match! Chris Holder, I believe, held court before the meeting, and he told the assembled few what he was about to do, then we were treated to the wonderful spectacle of Travis McGowan, passing Holder. Also, Leigh Adams made a comment about what Poole were up to on that night. They had a whitewash of an inquiry that wasn't worth a bag of beans!
  16. Peter Craven himself was just slightly above 5ft in height! I remember when Norman Wisdom was presenting the trophies at a Wembley final one year, he was a very short guy too,and Peter Craven and him were comparing their heights on the centre green! Also, Peter Craven, being so small, and riding at such an angle, prompted Ove Fundin to say in his book, that when leading him, he would sometimes have a glance behind him, and just see an "empty bike" as he put it!
  17. If Michael Lee had managed a full career, it could have been very different for him, but, as we all know................
  18. I always looked forward to his visits to Swindon and anywhere else I saw him. He was by far the most spectacular of the big five. I like to think he was our best rider, maybe he was, but Peter Collins was also terrific.
  19. Peter Craven was hugely popular at Swindon, and once, he equalled the track record (72.0secs.) twice in one meeting. I have put a typical action picture of him in my profile.
  20. Stop Matt Ford from singlehandedly taking the sport nearer to the abyss before it's too late. Let's have a level playing field, that would be a great starting point.
