  1. Not a lot can be said about this meeting as its already been said. A brilliant meeting! All our lads appeared up for it. A massive well done, that 18pt lead ….VERY HANDY! Just hope its enough.....Scorps you can only do your best now. Hopefully you can bring the cup home to Scunny….. Good luck for Thursday.
  2. Brilliant! lol....Trust you to come out with that. I do think poor Rob gets blamed for everything. Ive just read on comptr news " Snow and cold weather to come from the weekend". Rob will no doubt get blamed for that too.
  3. I heard him say that. I said to my friend " that's because he'd have to race!.
  4. No way! Our next years team Has to have the " 3 J's " Jake, Josh and Jason. These lads have carried us through the season , due to our bad luck with long injuries and has given us brilliant proper racing, with passes galore!.
  5. What a meeting! If only our riders could have felt the excitement of the crowd, we in the open stand were going bonkers! We started off thinking we'd get a win. then we were all moving the goal post as the meeting went on. I ended up thinking 25pts win. and one of the brothers. ( Outsider & Broadsider) finished on 30pts. How close he got to being right!. . Good to see the team up for it so to speak. Brilliant effort by all riders. As for the weather & track. the rain was so fine but looking up at the lights you could see the wind was driving it across the centre green, the track didn't seem to get wet. certainly no puddles even after the meeting was over. Good luck Scorps for the next leg!.....UP THE SCORPIONS!
  6. That's good. Its the older generation that's getting fewer and fewer. I notice because of my age . There are so many friends I used to see regular at speedway which I never see now. Its why we need a way of getting young teenagers to follow the sport. We actually started going as it was David's choice of a birthday treat. He'd be about 10 or 11yrs. Never missed meetings since. Dave's 2 kids were babes in arms when they started coming. Any wonder why Dan is like he is. He'd live there! haha.
  7. At Scunny we usually have brilliant racing with plenty of passes. Support isn't good though, certainly not compared to our other 2 tracks. Quibel Park and Ashbyville. I think the answer to that is because of where EWR is situated. It's far out of town. no buses after 6pm ish . Too far to walk and I certainly wouldn't want to see youngster on cycles. Its on a busy road which leads to Industrial estates. It cries out for a special bus service for speedway on a return basis. Nowadays most families have cars, but men work shifts, that means 2 to 10 and night shift families miss out. I also think doubling up and down effects speedway popularity. The die hard crowds are getting smaller and smaller by the year.
  8. A speedway rider is doing a job that he gets paid for, like everyone eles. " A Boss can sack a person for not doing his job for all sorts of reasons. Bad at the job. poor time keeping, lazy, . In Dan Philips case we simply had a rider not doing his job of scoring points. He was never expected to score loads of points because he was back from injury. He's had loads of time and you really have to be a Scunny regular viewer to see how bad at the job he had become! As a promoter Rob had fans moaning, missing meetings. Let this be a lesson to other teams. It could happen to your own team.
  9. I wish people would stop blaming Rob Godfrey for Danny Phillips poor efforts. We all know Danny suffered a serious injury and thanks to Rob he was given a reserve berth to make a come back. His efforts has been painful to watch for us but Rob stood with him. It is clear to all us Scorps fans that we wish Danny to come good, BUT and its a big BUT he has had a whole season to improve. sadly he hasn't!. Danny is a nice lad but don't blame Rob, He's given him practically a full season to come good.
  10. First time ever I put my programme away and sat waiting for the end. I had to as I was in my sons car. Why is it that we have to wait for about 4 heats before our lads get going. Thanks to Josh and Jake for a very entertaining last heat yet again....brilliant lads always brill to watch.
  11. Hands off Josh, he's Scunny through and through! Can't have him!
  12. As I see speedway at the moment; Riders who have been at the top of the sport becoming older and slower and can control their averages by choosing whether to attack and go for a win or settle for 2nd even third spot, then eventually drop down a league with an average that allows them to be in reserve spot. I'm not saying its wrong but Reserve spots in all leagues should be for the young up and coming riders. Its how they learn their trade! Supporters pay to watch proper racing and want to see an all out attack of all four riders going for a win!. Understandably we have many accidents and riders that get injured eventually do get back to best. At Scunthorpe, Unfortunately, this year we got to see all this from our very first home meeting! Its very hard to take. I'm a huge fan but didn't go to the Ipswich meeting. Missed the new sensational youngster. BUT Good luck! I am looking forward to the day I see you race!
  13. Riders who achieve a certain top average should be based only in the one league. exception being for reserves ….top league with lower average riders from Cham league. Same applied for Cham league using Nat league riders in reserve. Also every team have a No 8. It gives reserves more experience to further their progress, plus it could save having only 3 riders in a race, I know it don't happen that much. Years ago we used to have No 8's.
  14. This is a first home meeting for weeks. So come on you SCORPIONS. You owe us a home win! GOOD LUCK! Don't be like our friends up the road who collect noughts in their scores!
  15. I hadn't realized a collection for Steph hadn't been done.....Of course we should do one. I would defo donate. Get your bucket Dan!
  16. Racing so poor. I stopped watching it! Virtually no over-taking, blame it on the track it was terrible. I suggest Swindon Manager have words with Mr Godfrey as; Considering it was a very, very hot afternoon last Sunday at 5pm. Scunny had a double header which ran without problems and us fans enjoyed one of the best meetings ever! Scunthorpe v Glasgow.
  17. Here's wishing Josh and Jake Good luck tonight. Its been a joy to watch you two around our Scunny track. They have been our best pair with out doubt. Can they do it?.....I hope so.
  18. He knows the track, learnt his trade there in the Kenny Smith days!.....like dozens of other riders including the Worrells.
  19. At this point I feel I want to pass comment.....Danny Phillips returned to the sport after a serious injury.on a 2 pt average. It fitted in the team we had. The lad is doing well in his come back. Don't blame him for our loss. Its not his fault. We went tonight to Lakeside with a weak side. Missing Stevie 9pt av. and Stephen 7pt . That's 16 pts short. David Howe as guest 6pt av. Do the maths were missing out on 10pt av. Its injuries which is hurting us badly. The team was good at the start of the season. I am so disappointed you wouldn't believe ! BUT its not D Phillips fault Give the kid a break!
  20. Imagine how good we would have been, had we had our 3 injured riders!....We managed quite well with 2 injured riders but 3 out is hurting us now. Guests and r/r didn't do us any favours. The guy you need to thank is; Tom Bacon who rode like he belonged on our track! Well done for the win ( that hurt) Maybe we'll have a fitter team when we visit Peterborough and we come away with a win.
  21. Scunthorpe Speedway site says; Watch twitter for any possible call off.
  22. A brilliant meeting tonight. All Scorpions riders on it! No gate and go, it was pure team riding. Loads of passing. Scorps going through and round the opposition , super to watch. Well done team you deserve that win. Great to see a good team spirit.....More next week against Newcastle to see us through to the semi for the shield.
  23. With only our very own Josh Auty in the team from last year. Didn't we do well! Sadly we have already lost Stevie whilst he's out injured. Get well soon Stevie. Josh you were brilliant! Garrity looked so happy and in his interview he sounded so excited to be riding for the Scorps. said he loved the track . What would our score have been had Stevie took all his rides! So a huge well done to the whole team. Sadly Stevie will be missed though. Here's hoping he will have a speedy recovery!
  24. I am so looking forward to Sunday our SCORPIONS first meeting. Good luck to all SCORPS RIDERS, especially my 2 favourites Josh and Stevie! So long as we finish with riders in one piece I'll settle for a win if only by one pt! ................GO SCORPIONS!!!!!!!!
