  1. It's all very strange isn't it? Are loan fees still a thing then? Whereby your leasing/loaning a worthless asset. Just done a quick Google and it looks as though the last big transfer, or one of them, was the late Lee Richardson back in 2004 for £32,000 + VAT. If memory serves they bought him to replace Leigh Adams
  2. To have assets to sell... surely you need buyers. It's definitely a buyers market I'd say
  3. Yeah, I get what you're saying and I'm no accountant but the riders aren't employees. Back in the day transfer fees were a thing that's why I wondered if things had changed. When a club is sold are the value of the assets included I wonder? Otherwise you're selling nothing but the name and licence to run really
  4. Resurrecting this one, as I was thinking yesterday... Are club assets still a thing? When was a rider last transferred on a "full transfer" for a transfer fee? Which rider has the transfer record? Is it still Jason Crump v1.0 Do clubs show rider "assets" on their balance sheets? Would Leicester, for example, be showing Martin Vaculik and Paweł Przedpełski on their balance sheet? And at what value? As realistically at the moment in the UK they're worthless.
  5. It's an extra £3 for a prog these days though. Perhaps you should get a free race card on entry and then if you choose buy a "Match Day Magazine" for £3. And like I said in a previous post, free entry to the 2nd halves is what initially got me started... to lump out £20 on something you may or may not like is quite a lot these days, especially when there are generally no other offers these days since they stopped reducing the price of TV matches.
  6. I've been going on about this for a while, it ain't going to be cheap, but I do think British Speedway needs some kind of interactive app to attract the kids, especially on race night, with interactive collectables etc. Just something simple, like get selfies with all of the riders in an online album like the old Panini sticker books... and a club emblem badge hidden around the stadium somewhere. Not sure how you'd do swaps though... got, got, got, got, got, got, got, NEED!
  7. Does anybody else struggle to make out the riders number on their back or is it just me? Should have gone to Specsavers
  8. That's the match I'm referring to not the KoC match at Scunny. Well spotted
  9. Would Lasse ride for the Bates again... didn't they part controversially?
  10. If we are going to indulge in a bit of sarcasm though... Come to Peterborough to watch the Speedway! Unless there's a bit of drizzle in the air, then come! Oh... unless it's a sunny night and the sun gets in the riders eyes, then come. Oh and if you didn't realise, did you know the speedway bikes don't have any brakes on them! I know dangerous right?! Maybe we should have wet weather setups, weather shield on the bikes with wipers on and mandatory fitting of brakes to the bikes. I've stopped being sarcastic now. Visibility was not an issue on Monday night I don't even know why they're suggesting it was?
  11. If they're going to potentially not run meetings due to "visibility" in the conditions that were prevalent on Monday night then the sport is finished in this country. It wasn't even raining. Quit with the sarcasm... it is the lowest form of wit
  12. Isn't that why they were tear offs or the roller system? You've seen them ride in the rain, drizzle, wet muddy tracks with mud spray. I've seen Coventry riding at Belle Vue (Hyde Road) in the last ever meeting with driving monsoon rain sweeping across the stadium. All I'm suggesting is that the visibility was not the issue on Monday evening. Please save your sarcasm for when it's really needed
  13. Still the wage bill must be quite hefty, especially with very very very limited crowds for the last year... the sponsors must have deep pockets!
  14. You're perhaps not as surprised at their progress as I am then... I've only really seen the twins mascoting at Coventry and Leicester, which is why I'm so surprised to see all these kids "burst" onto my scene at once
  15. I don't think anybody is under the illusion that clubs wouldn't hesitate to drop any of these riders at the drop of a hat if their averages didn't fit. Yes there are issues within the sport, we all know that. I don't claim to know the complete history of these riders and how they've come to be at the standard that they are... but somebody is doing something right somewhere as I've not seen a crop of youngster like this since the days of Loram, Louis, Screen, Dugard, Barker, Norris, Havelock, Silver, Stonehewer who were all BU21 rostrum placed in late 80's / early 90's. You can only develop a young rider to a certain point and at that point they have to "go it alone" and build a career on the development they have been given to that point. Have you been to watch any of these riders?
  16. I'm a bit of a doom monger myself... only because I want things to drastically improve and see the sport succeed and I'd be the first to be on here mongering doom if these riders were young wobblers totally out of their depth... but for once they're actually not! Now not all of them are going to go on and become world champions, or even be world class, some will undoubtedly drop by the wayside but at the moment, for me, I think the future looks quite bright for these kids. If anybody hasn't seen these kids yet I suggest you get yourself along to have a look at them, you may be surprised... I was
  17. Maybe time to reintroduce tape touching? Except for the drone! Or 1 minute for an unsatisfactory start? As indeed were you! You should, it was one of the better televised matches Now that is an excellent series... wouldn't stop watching live Speedway to watch an on demand programme though
  18. Since the post pandemic return of the Swedish League both last season and this the crowds that I've seen on the Premier Sports TV matches have been absolutely woeful, from what I can see from the camera angles, with seemingly more people in the pits than on the terraces. They're still tracking a number of the big names from around the world... How on earth are they managing to fund this? I assume government restrictions are still in place? Are they being funded by the government or have they got a platinum plated TV deal?
  19. As for anybody losing interest, I suggest you get out there and watch some of the young talent that is out there this season. It's been a breath of fresh air watching the likes of Rowe, Palin, Brennan, Flint, Thompson Twins and the others scoring well, being on the pace and getting stuck in and scoring quite well. I know the leagues have been weakened so they may be flattering to deceive a bit but the for long term future of the sport in this country this is a massive positive... all it needs is for the tracks to still be around for them to make a career on, and for those losing interest to go along and have a look at them
