Any news on the wildcards for next year?
JT replied to Mick Dundee's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
What a load of rubbish! Lukas Dryml - Lost anything he had with that crash last season and was in 2004 not only back to his dreary self but also crap with it, how can you say a rider finishing 22nd is worthy of a GP place the following season? Rune Holta - Had one decent meeting last season in Poland when he reached the final, almost always falls off when a rider gets within a 10m radius of him, seems to lose his bottle when it comes to the crunch! Matej Zagar - Forgot about Bjerre and Iversen? Two young riders who beat the likes of Rickardsson on their way to the semi finals all in their first Grand Prix, Zagar got to 8 points in what wasn't his first Grand Prix! In my opinion the choices that have been made are the obvious ones as all 5 of these riders can reach the top of the sport! -
5 Nominees for 2005 GP Series
JT replied to Jason.C's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
This rubbish about giving a rider a place because of there being a GP in his country is b**cks quite frankly, thats what wild cards are for! Lets face it the Drymls are perhaps the most boring riders in the world, no personality and finished 21st and 22nd in the series this year! The series is already downgraded with crap like Chrzonawski, we dont need the dreary Drymls clogging up the series aswell! Why Zagar? He wasn't spetacular in his round where as the two danes actually reached a semi final knocking World Number 2 Rickardsson out in the process! In my opinion it has to go to the best possible candidates and they must be: Hans N. Andersen - Won a grand prix after the stress of being branded a cheat in the world cup, supporters love to hate him, a great personality for the series. Lee Richardson - Looked the most dangerous British rider in this years series. Ryan Sullivan - Was crap this year but before this season he still looked like a world beater and possible world champion candidate! Bjarne Pedersen - Won a grand prix, despite rarely being controversial he is actually a promising talent! Scott Nicholls - An terrible start to the season with injury meant he was always up against it to make the top 8, was World number 7 going in to this season! -
He was crap and is yet another rider degrading the GP series! Where as the likes of Bjerre and Iversen finish in the semi final, its just unfortunate for the people who go to GP's reguarly that they have to watch someone who is unlikely to ever reach a main event! (Add the fact that the GP he rode in was on a permanent track that he has probably ridden hundreds of times, what will he be like on a one off track?!)
-
You are joking! In my opinion that is what wild cards are for to keep local interest, why sacrifice the place of some exciting new talent who will reach main events in favour of the most boring riders in the world (the Dreary Drymls) and Brhel who was past it long ago, the series is already degraded with the likes of Chrzonowski in it (he did well in the GP didn't he!) lets not make it weaker by putting the useless Drymls in it!
-
I couldn't agree more!
-
Zagar wasn't a shadow on the performances of Bjerre and Iversen who knocked none other than Tony Rickardsson out in the Danish GP and reached the semi final, all in their first grand prix!

Bye bye Ullevi & the Olympic stadion

Exactly! How else are you going to expand the world of speedway if you restrict it too just a few countries? -
As long as the dreary Drymls the most boring riders in the world dont get a place then the GP series will be far better for it, stuff 'oh their is a GP in that country we must give them one slot' that is what wild cards are for, to be honest with you I'd give one to Iversen (flamboyant, young and as SCB said can raise his game for GP's and World Cups) or Bjerre (less exciting than Iversen but equally as good), the same can be said of Zagar, any one of these riders would be a credit to the series far more than no hopers like the Drymls (Lukas has lost his bottle) and Laukkanen!
-
Yep well done Trick, amazing that Jonssons last race fall was the only one of the meeting, the racing provided by the track (although later on bumps were appearing) was excellent and this was certainly one of the better GP's. Zagar was an anti-climax, faling to reach the standard that Iversen and Bjerre produced earlier on in the season, despite this I would rather watch a rider like Zagar (with a Slovenian GP) than the most boring riders in the world, The Dreary Drymls! Holta realised he has to make an effort if he is to have a GP wildcard next season but in the end he still blew it and needs to impress in the last two rounds. Loram and Sullivan were crap and MUST WIN one of the next two GP's to get back in the series as wild cards.
-
Loram and Sulllivan proved yet again that they are past it on the grand prix stage, surely now they MUST win one of the next two GP's to stand any chance of a GP slot next season?!

I also think staging two GP's in Sweden is too much, Grand Prixs are hardly cheap these days and looking at the crowd at Ullevi people are staying away. In my opinion the perfect GP season would look something like this in a few years time: GP of Norway - Hamar Viking Ship Stadium GP of Sweden - ???? GP of Poland - Slaski Stadium (I know it failed last time but again they staged two GP's in one country (hardly the wealthiest country either) with tickets at high prices, in my opinion marketed well the national stadium would be perfect for speedway with Poland having the biggest fan base) GP of Denmark - Copenhagen GP of France - Stad De France (Ambitious I know but this was a venue BSI were talking about a few years ago and stages Moto X meetings in front of large crowds) GP of Asia! – One of the World Cup Football Stadiums (Asian countries go mad for things if they like them and this could if marketed well launch speedway on the world scale) GP of USA - ? (Penhall was talking about promoting a meeting in the US, like a breakthrough in Asia this would launch speedway as a major world sport!) GP of Monaco – Monaco Football Stadium – (Wild I know but another BSI idea, hold the GP near the F1 weekend!) GP of Great Britain - Millennium Stadium ( Obvious why and also if made the last round would hopefully reap the benefits of success in Asia, USA and Europe and fill the stadium up for the ultimate climax!) 9 rounds that could change the speedway world! -

This news has positive and negative aspects surrounding it. Starting with the positive as it has been said they are better tracks and provide better racing and are no doubt far cheaper however for a company promosing to raise the profile of Speedway GP by staging meetings at the big stadiums surely this is a step backwards? -
Why not have a home international three team tournament? 4 riders and two reserves on each team and make the England team U21 to give the English youngsters experience against the Welsh and Scottish 'seniors'?! The teams would then be: England U21 1.Edward Kennet 2.Daniel King 3.Ritchie Hawkins 4.James Wright R.Tommy Allen R.Steve Boxhall Scotland 1.James Grieves 2.Ross Brady 3.Kevin Little 4.Blair Scott R.David McAllan R.Derek Sneddon Wales 1.Phil Morris 2.Glenn Cunningham (Has actually rode for England in a test match) 3.Tony Atkin 4.Tom Brown R.Jamie Westacott R.Darren Hatton In my opinion that would be an excellent meeting with pretty evenly matched teams!
-
Sorry but it would never work, the BLC was a farce as EL teams could call on whoever they wished, sorry but despite Mildenhal having there selection of PL hasbeens can you really see the likes of Lindback, Sullivan and Pedersen travelling to Mildenhal where they are likely to lap CL riders?
-
This has got to be between Lindgren, Lindback and to a lesser extent Risager, cant see anyone else getting near them!
-
Wato had a virus in the Grand Prix qualifier that seriously weakened him, funny though FlynRyan that Wato top scored in the semi final and was second top scorer in the quater final, but of course he is out of his depth when he isn't in the Premier!
-
Sadly Richtea your theory may just be correct, I cant imagine Lukas Dreary Dryml attracts many TV viewers though even in his home country, this season he has been one of the most boring riders in the series!
-
If the last spot goes to Lukas Dryml then the GP series will shoot iself in the foot, he has done nothing this season to show that he will regain the form he showed the year before this and with the likes of Bjerre and Iversen scoring 13 in one GP, it would mean riders not in the GP series have nothing to go for knowing full well that if they are of a country with other good riders they are handicapped, all because one country no longer has the riders to hold down a GP place, the wildcards should go on how a rider has performed in international meetings(league form has nothing to do with international in my opinion with riders raising their game for international meetings) of the year before in which Dryml or any other Czech rider for that matter have failed to impress!
-
I supported TEAM GB!
-
If this is true then there are plus and minus points. The plus point is riders like Chrzonowski, Drymls etc dont slip through the net the minus point is it doesn't give anything for riders to go for and the favourites will always be picked. I personally prefer the current 24 rider line up with sudden death, the racing is usually brilliant because of it!

Hans Andersen surely secures GP place in 2005

Good point! -
And that is probably the best post to sum up international riding of today, unless we want speedway to become politically correct with no hard racing at all then we should just accept that some 'dirty' racing will occur from time to time. So your point is : lets accept it !, if it's not a dane. Grab a Tuborg, that'l help. Peter. No, I'm saying it doesn't matter what country they are from extremely hard racing WILL occur and some may see it as dirty, maybe this is just speedway in the 21st Century?
-
Look out for Newports very own Australianwelshman, having finished third in a recent Longtrack meeting it looks certain that Mallet will take over the crown from Kelvin Tatum as the Lord of the Longtrack, Iris I strongly suggest going to watch him grace a longtrack near you his starts are amazing!

As you are a Swindon fan I guess you are talking about Gjedde, tip: open your eyes! I have to mention our two GP Wild-Cards in this non-dirty/hard riding discussion though. And I would have to agree!
