  1. I sincerely hope that this was a joke, comrade?
  2. You don't think that they care about the taxpayers, do you?
  3. Or Buxton ... that's me in the background!
  4. Depends what the 'banned substaces' were. Remember Ben Barker?
  5. Looking at Googe Earth, there are actually two tracks with the Alexander Stadium. While the main stadium is probably not on for speedway, there is no reason (except financial?) why a speedway track could not be built inside the second (training?) athletics track.
  6. Howarth is hardly the first rider to get a flat tyre. No-one else had any problems, nor did Howarth himself later. Phillips was probably trying the same trick which worked so well for Redcar a couple of years ago: make a fuss about the track to put off the opposition. And this was the only time in speedway history that the referee has had a standing ovation
  7. I've decided to watch both matches on the stream, as half of the Gladdies are Birmingham riders anyway ...
  8. Joe was replaced at Birmingham because he was injured. Pearson was on a 4 point assessed average, and wasn't scoring anywhere near that; he was replaced by a 2 point rider (who is scoring above that) to free up points for a third heat leader.
  9. You must have done ... I saw him at the Junior Championships last year; his first winning time was the same as many Championship riders'!
  10. All of which may be true, but it doesn't contradict what I said.
  11. Tolley does have a promoter's licence, but as usual you are talking nonsense.
  12. There would be nothing stopping them, if they were good enough.
  13. In theory ... but would anyone actually do this?
  14. The reason for racing licences is so that they can be removed if the rider is dangerous or drugged etc.: see Nick Morris.
  15. It was Bailey and Edwards who made the difference for Redcar, not the heat leaders.
  16. No: GMs depend on splash lubrication (the big end running in the sump). Top professionals change the oil every couple of races, and you dump the oil anyway after each meeting.
  17. That was a long time ago, when engines had total loss oil systems. Modern GMs retain the oil in the sump.
  18. Well, they're expensive ... I bought a length of carpet from a supermarket for £5!
  19. They can't be until the hearing has been held to establish the true facts.
  20. It's just the same as any other major city in this country, no more or less.
