I saw that earlier when searching for Carrillo; I couldn’t believe how many meetings he rode in and thought it was a typo, but back then, you had a 28-meeting Premier League, a 14-meeting Premier Trophy group, plus the knock-out stages to that competition and the Knockout Cup itself. Add in the Spring Cup and Scottish Cup fixtures, you were spoiled for fixtures.

You’re spot on regarding Bentley. He was particularly outstanding for Hull, if my memory serves me correctly. However, he wasn’t quite as potent in 2004 and 2005 marked his final year in the sport.

I think back in 1999 you had the Premier Trophy matches and challenges before the league started and I am sure Bentley at Glasgow averaged around 11 from the opening 5/6 meetings but could be wrong.

It was very rare to have a week without a meeting at home back then - early March right up until the end of October.

You had the 4tt qualis then as well. Could never understand why they scrapped them, they were a brilliant idea and ensured that the teams that qualified got there by right.

Banger was around an 11 pt ave and then he broke his ankle and I think we signed Les Collins then let Mick Powell go when Paul Bentley came back

Thats right. Powell then went to Workington and was decent enough from memory.

Powell came to Berwick in 99 for the back end and I thought he did well. Got Bentley in 2000 but he was overshadowed by Moggo that year.

I remember Moggo in 2000 guesting for Ben Howe at Swindon and getting a flawless 18 point max , went to Swindon the next season and dropped off a fair bit.

Yeah not sure what happened at Swindon pretty sure he ended up at Number 4 for them. Did pretty well for Stoke but never reclaimed the form he had in 2000.

It's nice to read fans from other teams reminiscing about the good old days. Just to bring everyone up-to-date with Glasgow 2025, the team won the 1st leg of the Scottish Cup at Edinburgh on Friday, our nominated pair finished third in the Championship Pairs at Workington on Saturday and Chris and Kyle finished 1st and 2nd in the CRC at Scunthorpe today. Not a bad start for the class of 2025.

Glasgow have definitely got Kyle Howarth on a bargain average,  can see him adding at least a point to his season starting one

Lets see how he gets on at Ashfield first, particularly when he doesnt make the gate against a strong pairing.

Agreed; Howarth had a fantastic weekend, but it’ll interesting to see how he responds to missing the gate over the course of the season.

When out-gated in heat ten at Armadale on Friday night and in the semi-final at Workington on Saturday, he didn’t come close to challenging either opposing rider.

A small criticism in an otherwise fantastic debut weekend.

Glasgow Tigers Withdraw from BSN Series Following Passing of Pontiff

Glasgow, Scotland - The Glasgow Tigers speedway team have announced their withdrawal from the remainder of the British Speedway Network (BSN) Series with immediate effect, citing the passing of the Pope as a mark of respect. The club released a statement earlier today expressing their deepest condolences and stating that participation in competitive sporting events would be inappropriate during this period of mourning.

"Out of respect for the Holy Father and the millions of Catholics around the world, including members of our own team and fanbase, we feel it is only right to withdraw from the BSN Series at this time," said a spokesperson for the Glasgow Tigers. "This is a decision taken with the utmost seriousness, and we hope that our fellow teams and supporters will understand our position."

The BSN Series, a competition featuring teams from across British speedway, will now proceed without the Glasgow Tigers. The league organisers are expected to release an updated schedule in due course. It remains unclear whether the Tigers will be able to rejoin the series at a later stage or if their withdrawal will be permanent for the current season.

This decision comes as a surprise to many in the speedway community, as sporting events often continue following the death of prominent figures, with tributes and moments of silence observed. However, the Glasgow Tigers have emphasised the profound impact of the Pope's passing and their commitment to honoring his memory appropriately.

The Pope, whose passing was announced yesterday, was a highly influential figure globally, and his death has been met with widespread reflection. The Glasgow Tigers' decision highlights the reach and significance of his influence, extending even into the world of professional sports.

Further updates on the BSN Series schedule and the Glasgow Tigers' future participation will be provided as they become available.

... Or have they 🤔😜

what an odd post
