Is it a Premiership club as I already stated above we aren't talking about Lydd, Iwade of Linlithgow here? This is a club with riders on 3k guarantees but can't clean a room and everyone making excuses that is ok and it's because they are closing down and there aren't enough volunteers. That's the problem. The sport will need to restructure to be viable to then be able to build going forward. JackTheBrummie
Jason edwards riding tonight as a guest for Ipswich, could he be bought back to replace Ben barker or does he have to be a number 7/RS

I'm not saying that they should pay, but if you add up how much the club would get if they did, then it would help towards the cause..... So, whilst helping to keep the club going, they're also helping towards its financial demise... You mean pay to watch the meeting but work as well? perhaps give each fan a task to do as soon as they pay their money might be more feesable. Why should any fan not do a job if we look at it that way. Club would be the tidiest and cleanest track around! Anyway back in the real world 😉……. Volunteered for 5 seasons at Brum when it reopened. It was an inconvenience because you stand alone on a bend reacting quickly to anything that happens and your friends are all chatting and drinking a beer on the terraces. It’s volunteer work not stand around and enjoy the meeting. I also used to track Marshall at the old Perry Barr across the road and it was taken a lot more serious back then. And YES we got paid for it too. Speedway no longer has that luxury and clubs should be grateful to every person who gives up their time to do jobs that most supporters do not want to do. And I say that with confidence because if that was the case there would be a queue of people turning up at the pre season staff meeting to get the privilege to watch the match for nothing and help the club run.

If I'm right, I'm guessing that you did bend 4? I did bend 3 at the time and although I get where you're coming from re: having a beer and a chat on the terraces? I 'did' the flag, not just because I wanted to volunteer etc....I did it partly because watching the racing from the centre green is the best experience of watching speedway for me....plus it was 'free' entrance....'just being honest'!

I never rated the view from the centre green, not for a full meeting anyway, much preferring the terraces and the chance that offers to chat with folk. I and many other volunteers still pay (a lot, like me have season tickets) at the NSS but I can understand the free entry offer just to bulk up the necessary volunteer numbers. Like all clubs if it wasn’t for volunteers the sport would struggle to continue if not fold completely.

Correct! I get it’s a different or privileged view but I only did it because Brian Buck asked me. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed it at the time and the camaraderie we all shared pre and post match. I certainly wouldn’t have paid for the privilege to Marshall tho!

The stadium staff stopped doing anything for speedway , the day ARC took over.

The Dog
Sadly in speedway, it seems the more you try and help out and do good, the less they appreciate you... And they don't even bother to ask why you stopped doing the things you did.
