Women`s Speedway Gold Trophy

Recommended Posts

There is a chance for You in the UK to get to see one of our best female riders, Nepalese-German Patricia 'Paddy' Erhart in the SGP2 qualifying round in Glasgow on Saturday, May 24.

Ist möglicherweise ein Bild von 5 Personen, Dirtbike und Text

Here she is pictured along with her Olching team mates Martin Smolinski (captain), Seychellian-German Mario Häusl, and the junior 250cc rider Carlos Gennerich, in yesterday's Bundesliga 2 meeting at Teterow.

This is what she afterwards wrote (in english) on facebook:

P2 in Teterow.
Great team spirit, happy to be a part of it 🥰.
For me though, it was a day to forget. After my fall in training, it went downhill from there. I did not trust enough to go fast or take over. I had that same problem in the last years after my bad crashes, so it was nothing new, but I hoped to have left this issue behind. Also my clutch didn’t cooperate, I got two warnings because in the green light phase my bike pulled me near the tapes. In consequence I was forced to start 15 meters behind in third heat. It was disappointing, but bad days happen. Now I only look forward to my next race. I will be participating in Scotland for the SGP2 Quali in about two weeks.

any news on Katie Gordon?

We asked her dad but he didn’t really say anything, just sort of shrugged it off but she has got a new boyfriend and is not going to belle vue as much as she used to, so maybe that the reason

Ouch isn't the NL suffering enough? If a female rider was good enough they would almost certainly grab a place however by far the best UK female is Katie Gordon who has strong links at Redcar and still doesn't get a spot.  Publicity or not the interest in the sport is waning nationally and promoting novice/amateur level events won't help that.

As Rachael Hellowell is the British Champion surely she’s rated more highly than Miss Gordon who seems to have disappeared as she’s not riding in the NJL for Redcar any longer.

Let’s face it, there just isn’t enough interest from females in riding speedway and we currently struggle to get new males interested.

The Belle Vue event had 25+ females attend, all invited and given free access to bikes and kit for the day and it was given massive publicity . How many of those took part in this years event ? ….two? three?

Whilst Hellowell took part she rides for fun ( nothing wrong with that ) and doesn’t really compete at regular meetings or ride in any form of team racing. Gordon seems to have packed in as nothing has been heard of her this season other than the odd practice early season. That’s about it, I’m aware there’s one or two turn up at practices here and there but none of them seem to ride on a weekly basis so this FIM event is just a publicity event to tick a box. Just how do we get any new blood interested in the sport when tracks just aren’t providing the opportunities to have a go ?

It is hard to believe how naïve so many of the contributors on here are.

Opportunities are plentiful, if only you take the time to look.

Scunthorpe and Leicester host plentiful practises and training.

One of the biggest problems are people stating nothing is available, when it actually is!

Maybe the fact people can't find these events is a far bigger issue than forum members being naive? If people on here with an active interest in the sport can't find them, how are newcomers supposed to?

These 'opportunities' need to be far better promoted if they are to make a noticeable difference.

Sorry to disappoint you, but me being a dummy and not really computer savvy.

I decided to type `Learning Speedway` on my browser.

Low and behold a plethora of information:-

British Speedway Official Website-Training, Experience and Practise Days

Tryspeedway.com

AMSA Amateur Motorcycle Speedway Academy

Speedwayridenslidedayz.com

www.scunthorpe-speedway.com/?page_id=51

To name a few with many more available!

So I will stand by original post of forum members being  naïve as if anyone wants to try it, so simple to find out about it.

Fair point. I can't argue with that.

So you list TWO tracks who do ‘practices and training ‘ and one of those , Leicester, which you will probably need a bike and kit for ?

Thats alright then !

Im talking about your local track , where ever that is, from Glasgow down to Plymouth giving the opportunity for someone to turn up and say “ Can I have a try please ?”

Its this blinkered attitude thats brought the sport to where it is now.

As thick and stupid as I am, I do actually read posts (You must have missed one of mine) and try to be constructive and not blame anything or anyone.

So just for you, I did write the following previously!

To actually think that you turn up anywhere and say can I have a try please?

Once again the naivety rears its head and sense of entitlement is beyond compare.

Nothing blinkered here only a fool leading a horse to water and the horse decides not to drink.
