TheWellBehavedWorrall Posted yesterday at 10:14 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 10:14 AM I do miss the days where riders had their own personally designed kevlars, but also appreciate the matching team kevlars look smart. The flashiest has to be Joe Screen’s old ones, IMO. Arm tassels and a big Union Jack covering his entire back. Anders Thomsen is also worth a mention when we’re talking. His white and gold is like drug dealer sheikh.
MMX Events
How times have changed. In my first years of watching speedway, ALL the riders wore black leathers with the exception of Nigel Boocock (blue) Mike Broadbank and Greg Kentwell (red) and Alan Cowland (white). It seems amazing to me now that, when any of those riders were in town, it raised the excitement level and was an added attraction in itself! Like others have said, I enjoyed seeing the spread of individual designs and it made riders instantly identifiable but, when the Pirates opted out of team suits in 2018, I realised how much I now prefer the matching strip.
SJA
Before team racesuits became a thing I think it was Henka Gustafsson in 92 or 93 who had the Kings Lynn Zetor race bib as part of his leathers design so he didn't have to wear a race bib. I though that was a design innovation and ahead of the time.
