Newcastle fans have got their Xmas wishes ... a team to support in the 2020 season. many other fans out there that can only dream of being in their position .. Workington. Coventry, Oxford, Rye House , Lakeside, Reading, Bradford Good luck to the Diamonds for 2020. Can't afford another team lost to the History books.

Now that the full team has been revealed, personally I would just like to go on record and say a massive thank you to every single member of the new promotion team, and Rob the new owner, for getting this show on the road for 2020. The future of Newcastle speedway was clearly in doubt just a matter of several weeks ago, and your combined efforts have made sure that Sunday evenings will continue at Brough well into the forseeable future we hope. The team already has its detractors and some who would detract from the drama of last night's Christmas party, but I'm sure the genuine supporters will come along and support this team even if we have to hold our breath in heats 13 and 15. I think we could well surprise one or two!

Better signings with the future in mind, than journeymen who have been around for years just going through the motions, you can bet these guys will give it 100%.Worth the gamble IMO.

Enjoy the racing and be grateful you have a team, wish we had. The guys come in, support the club. Should have quoted Bellers101.

How fickle some fans are,Dam if you do and dam if you do not. Also do not forget injuries play a part in most teams season.Well done the promotion and hopefully a good season and a mid table position would be a good start for future years.

If you look at the styles of both riders in some of their clips they can certainly ride big tracks. In most of their rides they are last, but only just and the opposition are usually world class and sometimes GP quality. The Czech rides the big tracks very tight which is a good sign, and George Stancl, who I believe will be in the pits with his fellow countryman, has said he can ride tight tracks very well. OIven where they are now, and who they regularly ride with, I don't see them being on 5 very long. Same goes for James W, who still rides grass tracks very well, and once he gets back to regular riding will not be at reserve for very long. That would be good news, but it would also use Rider of the Year Max to go down to reserve again and that will makes us about the strongest team in depth, with heats 13 ad 15 being our only weakness. It's great, and our history to bring on foreign riders bring them on for eventually to the world stage. As Fromafar has said above, we could've been stuck with riders getting on season after season, but it's more exciting that you know you are developing riders and watch them grow as riders. We already have that success with the Gems team, so why not for the DIamonds as well again. Breeding 4 World Champions has been very satisfying in the past, so let's see what we can do with our two latest riders. Great night tonight, the PTE was packed out with several new fans amongst us, along with a nearly sober team manager and owner who also supplied the buffet on offer. Things are looking good, and there is currently a great anticipation with the return of the DIamonds and everything that is happening at the moment. I thing most people would just like the season to start now. How things change Eh.

most sports are the same, take football, the most watched sport on TV, Keeper passes the ball to one of his defenders then the ball is passed across the field, then back, then back across again eventually arriving back at the keeper who passed it out in the first place. If and when a goal is scored that's what it's all about, so a 1-0 win gives seconds of excitement the rest is expectation and boredom.

Very poor. 2 new riders to the league and another who hasn't done shale consistently for 6 years. No number 1. No 2nd heatleader. Main thing is that Newcastle are still alive, though. It's a team and that's better than nothing.

I think that you and your fellow village idiot RedcarRacer, could be in for a few surprise this year, and we have 2 points up our sleeves just in case.

Well it's a vastly different looking team and , as most of us know very little about the new guys, it will be interesting to see how they get on. A few weeks ago there was the real prospect of no speedway on Tyneside and now they have a lot of new riders to look forward to watching. Look forward to seeing how they perform.

Well done Rob Grant in the 4/5 weeks or so you've had and the riders that were left/avaiable and wanted to ride for Newcastle Diamonds . Not the strongest on paper by any means but lets get behind them and support them, a bet next season we will be quicker of the mark with our 1 to 7 . GOOD LUCK THE DIAMONDS

Somerset? BWD, Schlien and Barker are nowhere near the three we have.

rubbishe team. Simple as that! You get nowhere without proven heatleaders. Tsunami saying it’s decent apart from heat 13/15 is laughable. He’s been around speedway long enough to know those are the ones that count. Has he forgotten the cup final

I should have had a bet on it, except the odds would have been rubbish

That was obviously a failed attempt at humour, on my part, based on a misspelled word Seriously.... I'll say this to my Poole friends. My history (continuously since 1970) is with the Bees. We were, for many years, the one team that all the top riders wanted to be with. And we had our share of success (even over Poole!). I am, of course, heart broken that the Bees are not (currently) racing and their beloved home lies empty and rusting. But there is always a way. For a real fanatic there are still clubs out there racing. For me it meant putting aside my feelings for the auld enemy and supporting Leicester. Not only that, I had to accept racing in the second tier. For sure there was some justification (excuses) in that Leicester had borrowed a few of our own. But the reality is that I quickly formed allegiances with individual riders (not just the former Bees) and I looked forward to my weekly fix with enthusiasm. Moreover, I became an enthusiastic supporter of racing at the third tier. Oh, I know what you're thinking. It's easy to support two (new) teams when they winning everything. And yes, that was a factor. But despite my pride in the Bees, during the past 50 years there have been some dark times when we couldn't win a fight. I can tell you, for a fan with a long history of following and watching racing at the highest level, racing in the Championship is a joy. The commitment of the riders and their management is no less and the spirit is good. So I'm now a genuine Leicester supporter with some real loyalty for the club(s)....... until the Bees come back

The reason was planning consent. There were a number of residents objecting to the application for permanent consent for the Monarchs, so to give strength to that application John Campbell pulled the plug. The application was successful and consent was given. It was the sensible thing to do. I think if it hadn't been for that John would have kept going even although crowds weren't great.

I made the mistake yesterday of thinking you could only buy tickets on a day to day bases, then it was pointed out that the prices cover both days which IMO makes them very good value. I bought grandstand tickets and when you pick the print at home option both days tickets are there. Looking at the availability this morning there`s quite a few tickets gone already with the centre section is just about gone but there is still tickets there for the other seated sections.

Further to the topic and reading some of the fascinating report of meetings from 1926-1927, it does seem 'broadsiding was practiced by a number of riders at the time One particular report though from 28.02.1927 states that Jock Hollis(Sydney) is not a spectacular rider, and he only resorts to the dangerous , even if spectacular practice of skidding when it is absolutely necessary !! A few days earlier Vic Huxley swapped from A.J.S to a Harley and it seemed from then on moved to another level. It was stated before he was very difficult to overtake if he was in the lead, but all of a sudden it seems on the Harley he was passing people when behind But what is clear is that there was a lot of interaction between Sydney and Brisbane. Charlie Spinks was banned for his part in the strike in 1926 and went to Sydney to race and a number of riders from Sydney turned up in Brisbane to race. Van Praag turned up just as Huxley acquired his Harley. So quite possibly one of those that had seen the American rider(s) in Sydney brought the style to Brisbane?Brinck was in Oz during the winter of 1926 It does though seem that broadsiding was established in Oz before either Brinck or Huxley. Saw a report about the start of the Broadsiding season around October 1926, so it must have been reasonably well known from the previous season. Must check the date again

How is it a boring heat formulae? Heat leaders meeting heat leaders more often, reserves meeting reserves more often, should lead to closer racing?

Just making a point Steve. I dont know why the hell they are talking about Hampel. One reason why i dont post much now. Most talk rubbishe and you have far to many wind up merchants on here now. Who were cracking there teeth on rusks when we started going. If they were thought of at all.
