Witches v Lions KOC 2nd Leg April 4th

And the A14 moved a bloody site more freely on the way home compared to on the way there. Mile after mile of cones and, you guessed it, no bugger working!

P&P is on Wednesday. As for the weather, it's been evil again! Non stop rain yesterday but the hardy band of volunteers were up there doing whatever they could to get the "show on the road".

    Leicester Lions 2024

So, with 4 days to go it seems to me that these are good times to be a Lions supporter. We have a new owner who has ploughed thousands into trying to remedy the track drainage problems, and whilst going about it, has installed a new training track to bring on the newcomers to the sport, and hopefully sustain speedway well into the future. We have a newly designed website that looks modern and has given the club a fresh new image; we have a new co promoter who has worked tirelessly throughout the winter to "get things done." Questions from the supporters to the management have been invited in preparation for press and practice day which suggests to me a new more open approach towards those of us that part with our hard earned week in week out. All it needs now is for us as supporters to get fully behind the new owner and co promoter and do our job in supporting the Lions for the new campaign. C'mon you Lions!!!
  4. I attended the excellently run Nuneaton Speedway Supporters club event last night in Brandon and came away thoroughly impressed and well entertained by Dan Gilkes and Jason Edwards. What an excellent night, and what great ambassadors for the sport are these 2 riders. They fielded a whole host of questions concerning their careers and hopes and aspirations for their future and spoke confidently and eloquently throughout the evening. About 40 people attended on a bitterly cold winters night but in my opinion it was well worth the effort. If you live within reasonable driving distance of Brandon, then I can highly recommend these evenings with Chris Harris being the guest next month. Well done to all concerned and thanks to Dan & Jason for a really enjoyable evening. From a Leicester Lions supporter.

    Brandon Update

I have no idea how these things really work but as a Leicester supporter I'm really pleased for all concerned at the outcome of this enquiry. In order to obtain Brandon stadium, I wonder whether or not Rugby District Council could place a compulsory purchase order on the site. Maybe there could then be some agreement between the council, the great and the good in the stock car world and the speedway world to lease the land back over a number of years. Whilst there was no compulsory purchase order involved in obtaining the land at Leicester by David Hemsley, I do believe that he did get it on a 99 year lease. If a rent was paid back to Rugby by speedway and stox, they would over a period of time recoup the outlay of paying off Brandon Estates and no doubt see a profit. As I say, I don't understand the finer points of such a suggestion and whether or not it could work but I'd be interested to read people's views on this.

With all of the teams in the Premiership now declared with the exception of Birmingham, and only 8 weeks prior to tapes up, what's the opinion of supporters on how Leicester's season is likely to go? For what it's worth, I think that Stewart has put together a very competitive team that will take some beating around Beaumont Park and will be picking up some all important points on the road, providing all 7 remain professional both on and off the track, and vitally, are also able to be injury free. I can see us making the play offs and giving it a good go when we get there. Interested to get everyone's thoughts and opinions.

    Brandon Update

A fantastic result and congratulations to all concerned. Now, following this decision, can a similar appeal be lodged by the powers that be at Peterborough or has that local council supported to building scheme at the Showground?

It all went wrong after Morris was caught playing silly bu**ers and earned himself a 2 year ban. It's been quite well documented that Bomber was not comfortable riding the B.P. circuit and said so himself in a post match interview with Rob Sensicall. Richie made no secret of the fact that he wanted to be back at Leicester, and don't forget that the riders' averages had a big part to play in forcing Stewart's hand in having to change things around.

  10. Monday, August 7, 2023Wolverhampton Wolves v Leicester Lions7:30 pm-Sports Insure Premiership R2 Copied and pasted just now from the British Speedway fixture list. Confused dot com!
  11. I don't think that we have ridden the R1 match at Wolves due to a rain off, which I understand is yet to be re arranged. The fixture list is showing tonight's meeting as the R2 fixture. If I understand this crrectly, this will therefore be the 1st leg of the R2 match and the previous score is imaterial until that fixture is rearranged.

    Premiership pairs 2023

With tapes up in under 3 hours, could somebdy within the powers that be at least bother to inform the great unwashed who will be paying to watch this watered down s**t show at least what the scoring system will be, or is it going to be thought up and changed half way through the meeting in the interests of the sport, just to maintain the interest? https://britishspeedway.co.uk/2023-premiership-pairs/

    Leicester v Ipswich 8th June

Ipswich will no doubt want to improve following a couple of setbacks, but the Lions appear to now have the bit between their teeth and I think they'll turn this one around for the 3 points. Nick Morris seems to have had one or two gremlins since that away fixture and we need all 7 to perform up to their capabilities on Thursday to get the bonus point. We can do this!

    Workington 2023

Planning on travelling up on Saturday and I'm reading a number of comments about the track being very dusty (we have the same problem on a hot and breezy day)! Where's the best place to stand so that I'm not wearing half of your shale on my way home?

    Leicester Lion Cubs 2023

A real shame for those of us from Leicester that were making a mini road trip taking in Cubs vs Belle Vue on the Friday and then Cubs vs Workington the following day. Hotel bookings now having to be cancelled and travel arrangements re-organised. The joys of a speedway supporter!!!
