Scunthorpe Scorpions V Workington Comets 29/3/24
stumper replied to paul84's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I’m not going to complain about the fact the meeting was called off after over an hour delay. The timing of the heavy downpour was poor. Best efforts were made to get the meeting on, and that should be appreciated. Nobody can control the weather. As a Scunthorpe regular, I must say the whole presentation of the event must improve. The quality of the PA system is poor and has been for a while. It’s too quiet and difficult to hear. The choice of music is awful and the long gaps of silence is so shabby. More communication is required and more could be done when there is no racing to keep the fans entertained. There really is no excuse in this day and age for that. Maybe a new announcer is required, but surely this could be communicated and volunteers sought, I’m sure there are people out there willing to give it a go. Was first one of the year and not going to be negative because on track I think the team have a very good chance this season and the racing never fails to disappoint at Scunthorpe. Just a few things to tighten up on to make the whole experience more professional and ultimately, more enjoyable. Particularly for new comers. A minor blip to start the season. Onward. -
I am glad somebody has said this. People give him stick for not spending money but in the same breath slag other promotions off for spending above their means. I understand there’s a lot of disapproval towards Rob Godfrey (some of which is justified) but he has the interests of Scunthorpe Speedway at heart. Scunthorpe is not a club that can compete financially with the likes of Belle Vue or Sheffield for example, that’s quite apparent. So would be foolish to try. Whether the club decide to make the move up or not, I can’t imagine Rob would do it and risk losing out financially. It’s a business decision and has to be treated that way to ensure the sustainability of the club. Why then people criticise this is beyond me. I am still personally undecided what is for the best but I’m sure the clubs interests are the priority and if that involves saving a few quid then what’s the problem?

Very unexpected if true. Would definitely be a huge gamble but one I will support. Its a shame in some respects as Scunny starting to establish ourselves as one of the top championship sides and was really hoping for a crack at the league title next year. I guess nothing is certain until its announced but definitely interesting times ahead

Scunthorpe v Poole - 2023 KOC Final
stumper replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
He made it clear he had no intentions of leaving Scunthorpe for another Championship club, its purely a decision to try and further his career by taking on extra challenges in Poland and Sweden etc.. Thanks Ryan for everything you have done for Scunthorpe Speedway over the past 10 years. All the best for the future and hope to see you back at Scunthorpe in the future as you will always be welcome back. -

Really hope this isn't the case but can understand if he chooses to only do the Prem next year. Already a Scunthorpe legend, and I am sure he will be back in the future if not next season -
Redcar v Scunthorpe KO Cup Semi Final (2nd Leg) 06/10/23

Will the Scorpions defend their 18 point lead from the first leg or do the Bears have enough to overturn the deficit and set up a final with Poole? -
Would love Kemp back next year, hes been brilliant especially away from home. Weve not had a strong reserve away from home for many years
-
Not sure if could work re averages etc but off the top of my head what I would like to see assuming league format same as this year: 1. Douglas 2. Mountain 3. Lambert 4. Allen 5. Pickering 6. Harrison 7. Ablitt potentially weak at reserve but worth it to try and get Douglas and Pickering in the side

Scunthorpe Scorpions 2022

Hi Lenny do you have any info regarding these "comments" there seems to be a lot of rumours and discontent directed to Rob Godfrey (some of which may very well be true and justified) but very rarely seem to have any evidence to back such claims up. Thanks -
I didn't know David had fell out with Rob, do you know the reasons why?

Would love to see Ryan Douglas at the EWR, time after time he proves he is absolutely quality around there. Would be brilliant to have him back in a scorpions jacket. I think alot will depend on the Rising Star situation, however a team built around Douglas, Allen, Jorgensen and Palin would be great IMO. Then as it seems Lambert looks set to stay, that would leave 2 places, and probably not a lot to work with. If the rumours around Gilkes are true I would be very happy with him as a scorpion. 1. Douglas 2. Lambert 3. Allen 4. 5. Jorgensen 6. Palin 7. Wouldn't mind seeing Broc Nicol as a scorpion but doubtful the averages would work out.

As sad and discouraging as that sounds, I will no doubt still make the trip, clutching on to every last little bit of hope there is -

Big blow for the Scorpions. Get well soon Thomas, makes an already difficult job even harder, but I am sure the lads will give it their best -
Just looking further ahead to 2022, I just wanting to throw a few ideas out there in regards to meeting presentation etc. Please don't take this as a complaint or a moan as I 100% appreciate what we have, however there a are a few things I think could be done to improve the presentation of meetings. As a speedway fan most of these things don't concern me too much, however to newcomers, they may be more important. I would like to see the following next season if possible: 1) Upgraded PA System: Often race results, rider introductions etc are difficult to hear in numerous spots around the track due to the crackly PA System. Volume is often too low as well which makes things difficult to hear. Would be nice to have the system upgraded and checked before use. The microphone Rob uses on the centre green regularly breaks up. 2) More lighting on bend 1 terraces: At the start/end of the season with the darker nights, it is difficult to see your programme when filling in race results. 3) Smoother transitions between music/talking: On occasions the music is left on whilst the presenter/Rob is talking which makes it difficult to hear and is a bit "amateurish" and often long gaps of silence can be heard before the music restarts at the completion of the talking. I think a "tidy up" is required to ensure the presentation remains as professional as possible, particularly to outsiders as I have brought newcomers along on occasions and they have picked up on this. 4) Maybe re-introduce an interval: To allow time for an interview perhaps during the meeting, to get the thoughts of a rider or team manager to see how they feel the meeting is going? Most meetings this year have been completed quickly (which I agree is a good thing to do) however might be nice to have more engagement during the meeting. Please feel free to agree/disagree, or add more comments. Like I said, just throwing a few ideas out there to how things can maybe done better.
