There is a Post on the London Speedways claiming Elstree was a cycle speedway - not a speedway - and was something to do with the Brines. http://londonspeedways.proboards.com/index.cgi Edited February 3, 2009 by speedyguy

Mimmo 1,070 Posted February 13, 2009 Can anyone help http://londonspeedways.proboards.com/index.cgi with information on tracks at Barnet and Elstree please. All that is known so far is probable periods that they ran. Thanks. Elstree ran a total of nine meetings altogether, with the first one taking place on the 10th August, but I don't know any results etc. Evidentally, Arthur Humphrey controlled all nine meetings on the track which was a grassy field covered in oil. Barnet staged its first meeting on the 27th July 1929 and operated until the end of 1936. Until 1934, it was a grass-track circuit, before cinders were put down. Former Norwich promoter Gordon Parkins took a few rides at the circuit prior to turning his full time attentions to the administrative side of the sport. When the lease at the Barnet Bypass site expired in April 1937, the promotion moved their operation to High Beech.

DK Rides Again 4 Posted February 14, 2009 Many thanks for this reply which has been posted on http://londonspeedways.proboards.com/index.cgi speedyguy It might be good if you made your forum easier to access. I don't want to register as a member until I know what kind of site I'm registering on; I may (or may not) be able to make a valuable or interesting contribution to your forum, but I don't know if I can, because I don't have the opportunity to find out if it's the kind of site I might like. Ditto....most sites allow you to read them without having to register, registering only if you want to post a comment.
speedyguy 20 Posted February 15, 2009 I don't see any problems. If you don't like a site, after you register you can always leave it. http://londonspeedways.proboards.com/index.cgi Who knows - you'll probably find something of speedway historical interest.
