Sheffield Tigers Vs Berwick Bandits; 26/06/14; Ko Cup 2nd Leg

Recommended Posts

Not dodgy at all. Under the 7-day medical regulation, he has to be signed off as fit to resume before he can race again in Britain. He obviously isn't.

Incidentally, Ales Dryml had his full allocation of rides at Peterborough last night, but has withdrawn from their team for next three days. Interesting things happen.

Very strange state of affairs this, if Kus has been stood down for medical reason's by the BSPA from riding in the UK then how can the authorities in the Czech Republic override that decision and allow him to race there, surely the reasons given in the UK should be on a Worldwide enforcement standing, just how ill is ill and who makes that decision?

If rider safety is supposed to be paramount then how can this type of situation be allowed to arise, your either unfit to race or you aren't?

Your post is reasoned, although it might be argued that if fit, Matej Kus would probably continue to be a potent reserve and equal any scoring Thomas Jorgensen may achieve tonight. Berwick should not be thought to be pushing rules to gain advantage, to lose their high-scoring reserve for three meetings is a body-blow.The SCB rules state a non-speedway injury (Kus was taken ill on Saturday, not injured) requires a seven-day recovery period and medical clearance has to be obtained before riding again (in an SCB/BSPA event).Racing in a domestic event overseas, while foolhardy (and when were speedway riders ever else?) is outwith the authority of the SCB/BSPA, and our own regulations still require his being re-examined and declared fit before he can resume riding here. The Berwick e-Newsletter explains he has spoken to Ian Rae this morning, and is not feeling 100% (little wonder, if he tried riding last night while under the weather) and therefore must stand down.Clearly, he is not yet fit and should not resume as yet. Tough for Matej, and for the Bandits, but safer for all concerned.

It was earlier stated that the 7day rule for non- speedway injuries can be flexible if they thought no malpractices were involved ,and could be overruled if the rider passed a medical before resuming riding.Which one is correct.Re Smod post in Berwick vRedcar.Smod seems knowledgeable in Berwick Affairs IMO#270 Edited by Fromafar

Have to agree Berwick aren't breaking any rules but the sport cannot be taken seriously as aTeam Competition. This is why fans couldn't care less, and are walking away.

Absolutely, if Kus rode last night then its difficult to see why Berwick are allowed a guest tonight, not unless there`s differing degrees of fitness needed in different Countries, as you say its difficult to take this sport seriously at times.

Not like he struggled last night. A good score against tough opposition. Legal or not it stinks Berwick.

Why oh why, would Berwick not want Matej not to ride, on his current form he would hsave easily scored at least 12 points from 6 rides.

Once again you can only blame the rules ,Dryml missing 3 meetings after a good score last night. Dryml and Kus say they are injured what else can be done (I am not saying they are not, before the usual mob jump in).Teams only play by the rules,it's just the rules that stink IMO .

I agree don't think Berwick gain anything from Kus not riding especially at reserve.R/r for Wethers is more of a concern as he is 4th in the averages. Edited by Fromafar

Kus has scored paid 11, 12, 6 & 8 on his last 4 visits to Owlerton while in the top 5 and against sides stronger than the current Sheffield team. He has also done that while short on confidence and in form far worse than he is currently in

It is a hindrance to Berwick to be without him rather than an advantage

Agree, but his earlier form that placed him there, has changed dramatically of late, he is now riding much closer to his starting average, so, should be able to cover him easily wit r/r.

Berwick's e-Newsletter this morning confirms Matej Kus a doubt for weekend matches.

Bandits have indeed lined up Thomas Jorgensen as a guest tonight.
