Coventry 2016

True that they havent yet found a suitable site is worrying but the fact that Rugby Council have and will continue to be behind Speedway/Stock Car and will continue to help identify sites is welcome. Some councils would've washed there hands of it by now. I wonder if Coventry City Council and Warwick Council would like to help too?

Agreed, it's great the council are behind the speedway but it seems they no answers going forward.

3 years on and still scratching heads looking for a location. Not in the slightest surprised. Carry on looking shall we while our stadium decays. I hope Rugby council put up as much a fight with planning permission for current site :nono:

So much for the stadium being sold once a new location was put in place.

Kaspazak won the SEC challenger today (1,3,3,3,3)

Will that still mean a 6pt PL rider for him when he is missing due to it against Lakeside & Leicester away?

Updates from the meeting:

Brandon Wood Farm site was rejected due to the greenbelt status of the land. Some the campaigners find disappointing.

Jeremy Heaver

Heaver says several sites have been looked at.

The Butts was explored as an option as the owners expressed an interest in using the venue as a multi-purpose venue. This was eventually ruled out due to restrictions with space.

They also looked at a site at Lyng Hall and Ansty Park and an industrial site in Nuneaton which all failed for various reasons.

Jeremy Heaver also said Brandon Wood Farm was the site they held out most hope for but it was met with opposition from Rugby Borough Council due to the site being green belt.

He said the council insisted speedway should stay at the existing stadium and were talking to owners about keeping motorsport at Brandon.

He added that he felt this was unlikely to happen

Mick Horton

Coventry Bees man Mick Horton is now speaking.

He said: I have visited many of these sites and talked to Coventry City Council.

He added: We have had many many meetings and discussions are ongoing. Were talking and we will continue talking.

We have looked at all our options and well keep our fingers crossed. Theres not a lot we can do.

Coun Stokes, leader of Rugby Council, says the council has no role in this at the moment.

He says Rugby Borough Council has no ownership of the site, no power to stop it being sold or to make an owner use it for a particular purpose.

He adds there is no business link between the new owners and former owner Avtar Sandhu.

Coun Stokes also insists there is no secret planning application being considered.

Coun Stokes says he is in talks with the new owners of the stadium site.

He says he is passionate about keeping speedway there. He says he has underlined the importance of the facility to the local community and region.

He says the stadium owners havent told him to go away.

He wants the stadium to stay there and says the site is not designated for housing in the councils local plan.

Pete Lawrence says "There is no prospect of a new stadium in 2017 and it is likely that will be the case for the next five years."

So basically it is speedway at Brandon or nothing? Unless they share at another track?

Ah the old, "green belt" arguement again. Only 8% of the UK is buit on. So even if we went mad a double the amount of homes, places of entertainment, roads, workplace then the UK would still be 84% not built on! Sod it, when are we going to stop obsesses over a bit of grass?

Coun Michael Stokes says he hopes the situation surrounding the stadium future will be sorted by the end of June - 28 days.

Mick Horton rules out Leicester and Birmingham as options to relocate. He seems to suggest if its not at Brandon it might not be anywhere.

Oh dear! Talk about putting all your eggs into one basket. Would have thought they would have had the track share as a back up.

Track sharing is short term and financial suidice. Prolongs the inevitable at great expense.

Only a lunatic would pursue it.
