Rob B 1,256 Posted October 11, 2017 Speedway, start a meeting in the rain. Call it off because it's raining. What a bunch of money grabbing, thieving bastards. It wasnt raining when started! It rained from 6.30 to 7.00, stopped, they worked on track till 8.15 it was in decent condition then. Then it started raining again just before 9.00.
Phil The Ace 2,860 Posted October 11, 2017 Nothing wrong with tonight. Rain stopped at 7 as planned, worked on track to 20:15, Racing was good actually. Then heavens opened unexpectedly and that was it, over. They tried to get it on. Fair play
lastword 200 Posted October 11, 2017 After very efficient track grading the first six heats provided some great racing. Hard to believe when at 6.45 the track had been saturated. As Rob (above) said, there was no further rain forecast but the very heavy showers after heat 6 put paid to any further racing. A real shame as it was developing into a really good scrap. Feel for Jack Smith who in heat 4 rode his best race of the season at this level only for it to count for nothing.
BWitcher 12,453 Posted October 11, 2017 Can't see why Belle Vue are being criticised for tonight's call off. Seems like they made a very good effort to get the meeting on only for rain, which wasn't actually forecast to arrive and put an end to things. In no way can that be blamed upon the promotion in my opinion.
Ace no.5 169 Posted October 11, 2017 Oh there's certain posters on here who can't wait to criticise. Great effort from the promotion to even get the track raceable. Not only was it raceable but there were good races and passing. One rogue heavy shower in the whole of the North West hit the stadium head on unforecast. The racing that was on show confirmed that the promotion made the right choice in NOT making an early call off.
colin wood 249 Posted October 11, 2017 Ridiculous inaccurate post by SCB who was nowhere near the track tonight.
Grand Central 2,654 Posted October 11, 2017 Sounds like Belle Vue only deserve praise. Speedway needs to make every effort to get meetings on. And when you have the facilty of the standard of the NSS. Then miracles can happen with a little work Pretty shameful for people to jump in with nasty comments on this occasion. Save them for those that derserve it. Norfolk way.
Gunner85 603 Posted October 11, 2017 The work done on the track post 1830 converted the track from a quagmire in to a good racing track. The 5-1 from Craig and Jack was a delight to watch with Jack involved in the race of the night albeit only 6 races. Andy Meredith and his track staff deserve a great deal of credit. Good racing... shame about the further rainfall when the track was converted back to one which was unraceable Hope Monday is a better forecast.
acef 795 Posted October 11, 2017 No blame at all on the promotion. The track staff worked a miracle and deserve a lot of credit for providing a track you could still race. Some great speedway tonight. That shower was not forecast. It's just plain unlucky because had that not happened that would have been a pearler of a meeting. They deserve congratulations not a lynch mob. Speedway, start a meeting in the rain. Call it off because it's raining. What a bunch of money grabbing, thieving bastards. I agree with a lot of what you say on here but your way off with this one.
Aces51 2,778 Posted October 11, 2017 (edited) The track staff did a brilliant job after the heavy rain during the afternoon and then more heavy rain at 6.30 after the track had been prepared. They started all over again and produced a track which was not just rideable but raceable. You had to feel for them when the unforecast heavy shower arrived after heat 6. There were some decent races and Jack Smith's win was brilliant. I was really pleased for him after all the effort he has put in this year. It's a shame that people who weren't there and have no idea what they are talking about feel the need to criticise. They just make themselves look silly. The forecast for Monday is good and we start all over again. Will Howarth be fit by then? Be good for Wolves to have him back. BWitcher 12,453 Posted October 11, 2017 Jack Smith was very impressive against Wolves in the Play Off Semi 2nd leg and was unlucky not to have scored more than he did. Even more impressive given the recent injury he had. Looks like one to persevere with next season for sure.
